  • Lot #: V-0006127-DT

Up for auction is this 1985 Porsche 930 3.2 finished in Guards Red over a black leather interior.  Starting life out as a 930 Turbo, this 1985 example has undergone a full drivetrain swap to a 3.2L flat-six Carrera engine mated to a 5-speed 915 manual transmission.  Offering responsive naturally aspirated power coupled with the iconic styling of the 930 Turbo, this 911 is said to be in excellent running order with approximately 83k miles shown on the odometer.

The Guards Red finish is said to be in great shape with minimal signs of road-going wear (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  Exterior details include wide Turbo fenders, a tea tray rear spoiler, European style lighting and integrated front fog lights.  This 911 rides on a set of aftermarket 17” Fuchs-style wheels which were dressed in new Continental Extreme Contact tires within the last 800 miles.

Inside, the black leather interior is stated to be in great shape with a professionally refurbished dashboard.  There have been no modifications made and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to remain fully functional. Factory options selected for this example include:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Blaupunkt Radio
  • Sunroof
  • Alarm System
  • Power Mirrors

This 911 has had its original turbocharged motor swapped out in favor of a more responsive naturally aspirated 3.2 L flat-six engine.  A 915 5-speed manual transmission is also equipped which delivers approximately 207 HP to the rear wheels.  As a factory designated Turbo, this example features the larger brakes, sway bars and torsion bars of the Porsche 930. 10 months ago, a full service is said to have been carried out which included new fluids and filters as well as a new set of tires.  This 911 is reported to be in outstanding driving condition.

The sale of this 911 will include one master key and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirming its original 930 specifications.  If you have always admired the styling of the Turbo but prefer naturally aspirated power, this 1985 example makes the obvious choice.

@witz Rest of World. A Porsche not built/configured for sale in the US/North America. Depending on the MY, many of the parts can be the same but configuration may be different to meet safety/emission/lighting/fire retardancy/ride height/etc for the original country of intended sale.

@kadinscar ok, now I see what your talking about.
    Definitely a mistake by Pcarmarket
That Cab has nothing to do with my Porsche
    Thanks

  • kadinscar (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

Thank you for the quick and informative response. No I did not know dealers were selling ROW cars. Back to question #2. In the ad there are 4 Authenticity documents from PCA in front of the CarFax Report referencing a Cabriolet with Serial number ending in 0184 ??

  • CarsbyThermal (seller) 3 years, 7 monthsago

    @CarsbyThermal back in the 80’s
The Porsche franchise dealers frowned at these cars because they had competed with their controlled market.
    I personally imported these 911 Carrera’s
I know these cars pretty well.
Little more power, less Smog emissions, better front head lights, and yes side marker turn indicators so a little safer.
Some minor other differences but in my opinion, direct import or imported by a franchise dealer. All the same car.
Did you know franchise dealers also imported these cars and Re sold them.
In bet you never heard of that?

  • CarsbyThermal (seller) 3 years, 7 monthsago

It is a direct import Porsche
You can always tell by the WPOZZZ in the vin.
I don’t know anything about a Cabriolet you mention?

  • M491 3 years, 7 monthsago

2 questions; 1)The side marker lights on front fenders are generally for euro only cars. Please explain. 2) Why is there a Certificate of Authenticity and two other PCA documents for a Cabriolet, S/N ending in 184 included in the ad ??

@InsatiableAmos Vehicle Model has been updated, thank you.

  • CarsbyThermal (seller) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@InsatiableAmos I believe the 1978-1988 were 4 speeds from the factory. The only 5 speed was 1989. Not sure the gear box that was used. I never owned one.

  • Youonlyliveonce (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

Is the original motor and transmission included in the sale

  • InsatiableAmos (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

Also, why does pcar market list it as a “911 Slantnose Cabriolet” in the lot summary?

  • InsatiableAmos (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

Some of the Porsche classic documentation shows a 915 trans was equipped from the factory. I understand this is not a numbers-matching trans, but did some turbos come with the 915 5-speed?

  • Kenbartone (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

Great seller. Don’t now the car but this seller is very responsive and this surely seems like a very cool non turbo - with an original turbo body. GLWA

  • CarsbyThermal (seller) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@rreasen Their is not a body kit on this car. It is a 930 all steal body, with the factory brakes and suspension from Porsche. I have been clear, no panels were removed and re installed on this Porsche. This is a fact.
The engine has been changed to a 3.28 non turbo motor and the transmission from a 4 speed to a 5 speed.
This is explained in the listing.
    Thanks

  • CarsbyThermal (seller) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@rreasen Yes, when you read the Porsche Tec report, this car started as a 930 turbo.
The vin # proves this. WPOZZZ93Z. If a non turbo car vin # WPOZZZ91Z.

  • rreasen (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

The add does say "starting out as a 930 turbo". Was this an original turbo or is this a body kit? Your response makes it sound like this was not a turbo. Do you just mean that it is not now?

  • CarsbyThermal (seller) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@rreasen Looks like when the lower front panel was repainted some over spray got on the horn? No damage. The 930 Turbo body 3.2 is advertised properly. If it was a 930 Turbo, I would have it advertised it that way.
    Thanks

  • rreasen (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

I am happy to be wrong but Photo 54 and 55 seem like overspray. Those parts would not have been originally painted. Do you have a paint meter or readings? Sorry to be a stickler but an origin turbo car with different motor and transmission.... there are going to be LOTS of questions.

  • CarsbyThermal (seller) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@rreasen No wrinkle. Only a very slight gap between the lower rubber rocker filler and the fender. No damage, or prior damage.

  • CarsbyThermal (seller) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@rreasen That is the factory red under the car you see, not over spray. Looks to me some one put a light coat of undercoating and it's showing some removal from driving.
paint code L027. Only the bottom of this car was repainted. So from the drip rails down.
The roof and sunroof are original paint. No body work is evident, no wrench marks on any bolts. This Porsche body is straight. Doors, front hood, rear engine cover, and gas door. They line up right. I did not paint the car, but, to me it Looks like 2 coats of paint, there is no build up on any corners to show more than how it looks from original.

  • rreasen (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

behind the passenger side front wheel the fender appears to have damage or wrinkling. Can you post closer photos and explain?

  • rreasen (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

I notice a lot of overspray under the car. When was it resprayed, what was the paint code, how many coats? What can you tell us? Any body work, bonds, remetal?

  • LongwoodCharger (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@CarsbyThermal You're correct. An '84 carrera with M491 option. Love the car. I will be watching closely....

  • CarsbyThermal (seller) 3 years, 7 monthsago

    @LongwoodCharger no, not a 911 SC, that is a 3.0 1978-1983
    It's a 3.28 911 Carrera 1984-1988

  • LongwoodCharger (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

Basically a 911SC with option M491 but without the value or either M491 or turbo? Maybe a steal in 5 days!

  • CarsbyThermal (seller) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@82turboruf Good afternoon, This is how we purchased the Porsche, with the 3.28 and the
    5 speed transmission.
    Thanks
