Now up for auction is this 1985.5 Porsche 944 finished in Black over black interior with leather seats.  Marking a major transition for the Porsche 944, this example was produced for the second half of the 1985 model year and was debuted with some significant updates.  It is said to have been originally purchased by a woman in Pennsylvania who relocated to Texas shortly thereafter.  The car would remain in her family for many years while participating in PCA show events.  It was eventually sold to the previous owner, another PCA member in Virginia, who meticulously looked after the car and stored it in a climate-controlled garage.  All of these owners are said to have provided the car with the utmost care and attention while keeping comprehensive records dating back to new.  It was purchased by the current owner on PCARMARKET in September of 2020 and has since been treated to some noteworthy maintenance items. Factory equipped with a desirable limited-slip differential as well as Sport Shocks and Stabilizers, this remarkable 944 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida while showing just over 30k-miles on the odometer.

The Black finish is described to be original and very well preserved with paint protection film applied over the front end.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings, and a clean CARFAX.  This example features factory optioned exterior side moldings as well as upgraded factory 16” Fuchs wheels that were professionally restored by Harvey Weidman.  These wheels come dressed in Continental all-season tires, and the original Phone Dial wheels are said to be included in the sale as well.

Inside, the black interior features leather seats, a sunroof, and a factory Blaupunkt radio that was restored by Radioman in 2019. As a 1985.5 model, this 944 debuted a redesigned dashboard with larger air vents, revised switches, A/C and heating controls, and four round central instrument gauges.  Lloyds floormats are installed, the air conditioning has been upgraded to R134a, and the seller reports all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.

This 944 carries a naturally aspirated 2.5 L inline-four engine which was updated with redesigned combustion chambers and modified cam profiles for the second phase of the 1985 model year.  Approximately 150 HP is delivered to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle with a factory optioned limited-slip differential (220).  This 944 was also factory optioned with Sport Shocks and Stabilizers.  The seller installed upgraded M030 stabilizer bars and the original Sport Stabilizers are said to be included in the sale.  The previous owner had addressed several considerable maintenance items since their purchase in 2017 including a new water pump, timing belt, ignition components, a coolant reservoir, transaxle fluid, and various engine seals and gaskets.  Since the seller’s recent purchase in 2020, the following items were replaced and addressed by a Porsche Classic technician to ensure the car was up to date on all maintenance:

  • Hood Insulation Pad
  • Fuel Lines
  • Fuel Check Valve
  • Fuel Filter
  • Spark Plugs
  • Power Steering Reservoir Tank
  • New Vacuum Line Connector
  • General Tune-up and Oil Service

This sale will include a set of two keys, original owners manuals, a stamped warranty service book, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, records dating back to new, and a clean title.  A beautiful example of Porsche’s most iconic transaxle sports car, this low-mileage 1985.5 944 is just waiting to be cherished and enjoyed by a new owner.

I personally know this car and it is probably one of the best 944’s out there if not the best. If you are looking for a 944 in as close to perfect condition as can be then don’t let this one get by. When the seller bought this car I was blown away by it. If I had room for it you wouldn’t be seeing it for sale! You can bid with confidence, you won’t be disappointed. I know this sounds like a biased post, but this car truly deserves it. Good luck to the bidders.

@maybeillbuyit Thank you for your compliments and question. Regarding the fuel lines, I am known as "Mr. Safety" and if I see any sign of possible seepage at the crimp points I replace ALL . In this case, I did not like one crimp point on one of the lines (no corrosion, just age) so I purchased and had installed ALL new Porsche factory fuel lines (the entire car) along with a new check valve and fuel filter. Of note, the long underbody lines are now supplied by Porsche as two piece for easier installation.

  • maybeillbuyit (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

Shockingly clean original looking car. 16" Fuchs as well. Pic 144 shows some compression fittings on the fuel lines, some of them have been partially replaced? Corrosion seems unlikely on this car, why were they redone?

  • FLPcar (seller) 3 yearsago

@TyStav The front bumper and nose have some minor stone chips (picture 38 & 39) and these show up more due to wax within them. The front film has some stone chip marks and a few chips are under the film (the previous owner had the film put on to prevent any new stone chips).

  • TyStav (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

Beautiful example of an iconic transaxle. From the pictures there look to be some minor stone chips or road blemishes on the lower front hood and bumper. Could you let me know are those in the paint or just in the protective film that you mention is in place. Thanks.

As the proud owner and caretaker of this impeccable piece of Porsche history, I am excited to offer this opportunity to the future owner, successful bidder. The 944 literally shows and performs as new with nothing needed but continued love and driving.
Thank you for your interest. I am available to respond to any questions you may have.
