Available for auction is this 1985.5 Porsche 944 5-speed. Finished in Kalahari Beige Metallic over brown, this 944 was produced during the second phase of the 1985 model year and debuted many noteworthy changes including a redesigned interior, upgraded engine internals, and improved suspension components. This particular example is outfitted with rare factory Sport Seats, 16” Fuchs wheels, and Koni Sport shock absorbers. Purchased by the seller from the original owner in 2018, this 944 is now being offered for auction out of Illinois with approximately 35k-miles showing on the odometer (TMU).

This example is finished Kalahari Beige Metallic, and the paint is said to be in good condition other than the sides of the car which were damaged when the original stone guards were removed. A dent can also be seen towards the middle of the passenger side door. Since the seller’s purchase of the car in 2018, this 944 is said to have always been garage kept and never subjected to winter driving conditions.  This example rides on factory 16” Fuchs wheels which were reportedly dressed in new Continental tires in 2016.

Inside, this 944 features a brown interior with highly desirable factory Sport Seats.  As a 1985.5 model, this 944 features a redesigned dashboard with larger air vents, revised switches, A/C and heating controls, and four round central instrument gauges.  Other factory options include a power-operated sunroof, rear window wiper, and cruise control. An aftermarket radio has been installed and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be working properly except for the clock. In the summer of 2019, the odometer gear failed at 35,700 miles and has since been repaired, the owner estimates the true mileage to be approximately 37k.

This 944 is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.5 L inline-four engine which was updated with redesigned combustion chambers and modified cam profiles for the second phase of the 1985 model year.  A 5-speed manual transaxle sends 142 HP to the rear wheels, providing for a 0-60 time of approximately 7 seconds.  An upgraded B&B exhaust has been installed and this example was equipped from the factory with Koni Sport shocks absorbers and stabilizers.  The timing belt was reportedly inspected under the current ownership and found to be in good condition.  A routine fluid and filter service was also completed by the current owner and the battery was replaced recently in 2020.

The sale of this 944 will include two master keys, one valet key, owner's books, a toolkit, a collection of workshop manuals, and a clean title. For any enthusiast in search of a well-presented, driver grade Porsche 944, this nicely configured 1985.5 example is not to be missed.

When I bought the car from the original owner in 2018 we were on a test drive and it started to rain. I turned the wipers on and they were terrible. I asked him when the last time he used the wipers and he stated “15 years”. The original owner was an engineer with a one car garage that was a shrine to this 944. I, on the other hand, have chosen to drive and enjoy this car each summer (stored during winter). No worries- I did replace the wiper blades.

@bobssled I just sent it in and it should be posted in a few minutes. The Billy Boat exhaust has a nicer sound to it than stock.

@tom.miller2 Do you have a start and driving video? Thanks, @bobssled

  • PCARMARKET 3 yearsago

A new video along with underside photos have been added to the listing.

  • tom.miller2 (seller) 3 yearsago

We just added 4 pictures from underneath the car during the oil change yesterday. You will see zero rust.

I’ll add a quick video in a few hours.

  • tom.miller2 (seller) 3 yearsago

Today I had scheduled to have the car's oil changed, and just dropped the 944 off at my Porsche service center for a synthetic oil change. I can answer any questions, but I don't have access to the car until the morning. For a 36 year-old car, it drives very well and makes any commute or spirited drive put a smile on your face. I am moving 1,000 miles away and just cannot move 4 cars, thus this 944 needs a new owner to enjoy it as I have.

This is Tom, seller of the 944. Please ask any questions you may have. The car is in my garage and I can get any photos you may desire that were not shown. I’ve driven the car for fun the last three summers with no mechanical issues other than fixing the odo gear. At 80 mph on the highway the 944 cruises straight and very smooth.
