Available for auction is this incredibly unique 1986 Mercedes-Benz SEC AMG Hammer 6.0. This SEC is one of a very small number of “pre-merger” cars built by the then-independent AMG tuning company.  Beginning life as a German-market 500 SEC finished in Blauschwarz (Blue-Black Metallic) over Anthracite leather, this example is believed to have been exported new to Japan where it was retailed and subsequently modified by AMG’s Japanese division.  Notable AMG features include a widened body and ground effects kit, 17” three-piece wheels, custom Recaro CSE seats, and most notably an AMG-built 6.0L V8 DOHC engine. It was purchased from an individual in Japan about eight years ago and remains part of a private collection in Pennsylvania where it is now being offered for auction while showing just under 74k kilometers (45k miles) on the odometer.

This SEC has been refinished Pearl White Metallic and equipped with widened bodywork, period-correct “Gen II” AMG ground effects, AMG badging, and a reflective trim panel spanning between the taillights.  The seller notes the front bumper and left rear quarter panel have been previously refinished, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery. This example rides on a set of color-matched three-piece 17” AMG Style 2 wheels dressed in Continental ExtremeContact tires.

The black leather interior sports electrically adjustable Recaro CSE bucket seats in white and black leather, as well as a host of modifications including AMG-specific gauges, a three-spoke Nardi/AMG steering wheel, and an Alpine head unit. The seller notes that the original burlwood trim exhibits slight fading as can be seen in the photo gallery. The AMG-branded instrument cluster houses a 300-KPH speedometer, a 7k-RPM tachometer with an inset analog clock, and a combination gauge for oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel level, and fuel economy.

Under the hood lies an AMG-built 6.0L DOHC "Hammer" V8 based on a modified European-spec 5.5L Mercedes engine block stamped with the number “204”.  AMG reportedly installed a pair of proprietary 16-valve sand-cast heads along with a ported intake manifold, custom throttle body, and AMG Sebring exhaust. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission.  The seller reports recent maintenance items to include a valve adjustment and replacement of the main engine seal.

This sale will include Japanese owner's manuals, a toolkit, a first aid kit, and a clean title.  An important part of Mercedes-AMG history and a beautiful representation of 1980s car culture, this SEC AMG 6.0 offers a very special opportunity.
