Now available for auction is this 1986 Mercedes-Benz 300GD finished in Mittelblau Metallic over a grey interior with Tartan cloth inserts. Mercedes’ original Geländewagen, the W460 G-Class was assembled almost entirely by hand in Graz, Austria, and features triple-locking differentials along with robust body-on-frame construction that established the G-Class as one of the most capable 4x4s of all time. This 300GD features rare factory options including Recaro front seats, a fuel-burning heater, and a Behr air conditioning system. It was imported to the United States from Europe in 2014 and has since received a full glass-out repaint as well as over $20k worth of mechanical service including a major overhaul of the engine and fuel injection system. This 300GD is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Massachusetts.
This 300GD is finished in Mittelblau Metallic (5396) with black rubberized trim. Some exterior features include a full-size rear-mounted spare with a Mercedes-branded vinyl cover, a black grille and headlight surround, black fender flares, a steel front bumper with a tow eye, a two-piece rear steel bumper, a front skid plate, and rear mud flaps. Since being imported to the U.S., this 300GD received a full glass-out respray in its original color, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. This G-Class rides on updated W463 G500 wheels dressed in Goodyear Duratrac tires.
The cabin is trimmed in grey and black cloth upholstery with matching Tartan inserts on the seats and door panels. Amenities include a rare factory Behr air conditioning system, Recaro front seats, a diesel heating system, heat-insulated glass, a central locking system, a rear defroster, manual roll-up windows, and an aftermarket stereo head unit. Metric instrumentation includes a 180-KPH speedometer, a 100x/per minute 7k-RPM tachometer, a 5-digit odometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary dials for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The lower dashboard has been reupholstered in black fabric and the seller notes some minor signs of wear in the cargo area.
The 300GD is powered by the revered OM617 3.0L 5-cylinder diesel engine, which was factory rated at 79 HP and 127 lb.-ft of torque. A 4-speed automatic transmission feeds power to all four wheels through an all-wheel-drive system with high and low ranges. Electronic locking differentials are also equipped at the front, center, and rear of the drivetrain. This W460 has received extensive refurbishment since being imported to the U.S. including an overhaul of the engine, air conditioning, and fuel injection system at a reported cost of over $20k.

"Safe" is relative and very personal. I've done over 100mph in much less "safe" machines than this :)
Because of gearing and horsepower though, it is not physically capable of doing much more than about 65mph.

This is most certainly an off road/low speed vehicle first. It is most happy under 55mph and if highway travel is a necessity, plenty of extra margin for merging and traveling in the right lane would be the expected norm. Adam

As noted in the listing the car has a 5 digit odometer. Whether it is 65k km or 165k km (or 265 for that matter) is up to individual interpretation. In my opinion, the condition could support it being 65k but there is simply no way to say with certainty.
The car comes with two sets of keys, no original books, but does have extensive service records from the past 7 years which will be uploaded today.
I'll also make a cold start video to show the legendary OM617 diesel starting quickly and with zero (zero) smoke.
I'll also take specific photos of the undercarriage at the A pillars as requested. It is very clean and tidy underneath.

Can the seller confirm that 65.000 km is the actual mileage ? Books /manuals and second set of keys exist ? Plus service records ?
@Turn3 it's really not a big deal to get parts. Some dealers are better at this than others and there are a few MB dealers with online parts ordering that are very good. I've rarely waited more than 1-2 weeks even within recent months. This particular Gwagen shares a motor with many MB sedans that were imported to the US so getting things like glow plugs, gaskets, oil and fuel filters can oftentimes be done at a local auto parts store. There are also several dedicated Gwagen parts suppliers in the US who carry their own inventory.
per my dealer...imported G wagons can have long waiting periods for parts can anyone shed light on this.. he stated all parts come out of europe.. TU
Also worth noting for the uninitiated — the listing calls it a full time all wheel drive system with electronic locking diffs front, center and rear. This is not correct. All Gwagens have hydraulic diff locks which need to be bled periodically else they get sticky. And while the w463 Gwagens are full time 4wd with front center and rear diff locks, the w460 — like this one — are part time 4wd with front and rear diff locks (the w460 transfer case does not have differentiable output).
