Up for auction is this 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet presented in Garnet Red Metallic. This 1986 example was purchased new by the current owner on September 4th, 1986, from Carlsen Porsche of Palo Alto California.  It was ordered with a Champagne and Black Special Leather interior along with Sport Shock Absorbers, a short-throw shifter, and Fuchs forged alloy wheels. Reported to have always been garage kept, treated to routine maintenance, and never driven in inclement weather, this remarkable Carrera Cabriolet is now being offered for auction by its original owner out of California while showing approximately 84k miles on the odometer.

This 911 was ordered in the unique shade of Garnet Red Metallic and has been fitted with a front spoiler as well as a special order Wine Brown cabriolet top and matching tonneau cover. The car is described to have been very well preserved with the only noted imperfection being a small chip in the original windshield, additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. This example retains factory 16" Fuchs forged alloy wheels which have been polished to a bright finish.  The Michelin Pilot Sport tires were mounted at 79,507 miles.

Inside, this Cabriolet showcases a Champagne and Black Special Leather interior featuring a steering wheel with an elevated hub, factory short-throw shifter, and an original Blaupunkt Monterey digital cassette radio.  Some minor signs of wear are noted and the seller reports all gauges and accessories to be working properly.

This 911 Carrera features an air-cooled 3.2L flat-six engine that delivers 207 HP stock to the rear wheels through a 5-speed 915 manual transmission. A front strut brace has been added and an upgraded engine chip was installed about 15 years ago for improved performance and fuel economy.  This example was also ordered with Sport Shock Absorbers for a firmer and more responsive ride.  The CARFAX report shows services dating back as far as 1999 and all scheduled maintenance is said to have been completed by the original selling Porsche dealership and certified Porsche technicians in the Palo Alto area.  The seller notes that the alternator has been replaced and that all fluid, belt, and tire changes have been carried out in a timely manner.

This sale will include the original window sticker, owner's manuals, spare tire, air compressor, and a clean title. A nicely appointed lifelong California car remaining under the care of its original owner, this 1986 Carrera offers a very special opportunity.

@fpaniagua930 @fpaniagua93 Good morning, as my auction says, no oil leaks. My Porsche has been property maintained since new. The engine and transmission are original. The interior, paint and top are all original, too. As you can see from the photos, I’ve taken great care of it. It’s all ready for a new owner to drive and enjoy it the way I have the past 35 years. Good luck on your bidding, Louis

Wow! What an amazing car. A pristine example of an air-cooled Cabriolet. You're the original owner and this car has never been driven in the rain? Does it, or has it leaked any oil? I, too, live in the Bay Area. I would love to set up a day and time to come to see it in person and drive it prior to the close of the auction. Is this okay? I don't want to break any of the covenants of PCARMARKET' protocols. Can you ask PCAR and let me know please? Thank You!

    I understand completely. No worries.

@urfealex Hi, I'm sorry, but I have a series of medical appointments this week, and just don't have sufficient time to post a longer video to what's already posted. I can assure you that if you listen closely to the perfection of the engine winding, and the smoothness of the shifting that you will be as convinced as myself, and my mechanic who just completed a full inspection on September 14th, that there is absolutely anything wrong with the engine, transmission or any other part of this car. Thank you for understanding my situation.

Could you please post a longer driving video showing completion of gear shift progression and downshifts. Many thanks.

@tspeedster Hello Tom, on September 14, 2021, I had an oil change service done and Freon added to the AC. My Carrera was fully inspected during this service and all is fine.

  • 86briolet666 (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@urfealex All of the electricals are working fine. On September 14, 2021 I had an oil change service and Freon was added to the AC.

Last service and what was done? Any needs? Thanks, Tom

  • urfealex (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

Very nice example. Are all the electricals, accessory motors, etc in good order? AC functioning?

Hello Jeff, thank you for your interest. No, there has never been any non-factory paintwork done. The paint is all original. My 911 Carrera has always been kept in my garage and detail every couple of years since new. Yes, I have all of my service and routine maintenance records on my car. No, there has never been a reason for the engine or transmission to be removed. It doesn’t leak oil and it runs and sounds like new. Yes, the engine and transmission are original. I’ve replaced batteries a few times and a put on a couple sets of new tires over the years. Everything on my Carrera is original and in exceptional shape, for a 35 year car. Whom ever wins my amazing car will be very pleased. Thank you again for your interest, Louis

Hello. Beautiful Cab. Has there ever been any non-factory paintwork done? Do you have copies of the service records? Has the engine and trans ever been rebuilt or out of the car for service? Are the engine and trans original to the car? Thanks, Jeff
