Available for auction is this 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa finished in Guards Red over a black interior. Characterized by its distinctive Targa band, Fuchs wheels, and rear spoiler, this 1986 example offers some of the most iconic styling of the air-cooled era.  It also features desirable factory options including heated seats, a limited-slip differential, and a short-throw shifter. This 911 has remained under the care of the current owner for the past 25 years and is said to have been well maintained with all routine service kept up to date.  Featuring an air-cooled flat-six engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, this classic Carrera Targa is now being offered for auction by its longtime owner out of Ohio while showing approximately 218k miles on the odometer (TMU).

This 911 is finished in Guards Red and sports a black Targa band, integrated front fog lights, and a Carrera rear spoiler.  Additional photos are provided in the gallery along with a damage-free CARFAX report. The 16” Fuchs wheels feature black painted centers, anodized outer lips, and come dressed in Continental tires.

The black interior features heated and power-operated front seats, a factory short-throw shifter, and retains an original Blaupunkt radio.  Signs of age are noted on the floormats and some wear is visible on the front seats.  The underside of the Targa top needs a new liner, the cruise control function is said to work intermittently, and the A/C is reported to blow cold, although the seller recommends a service of the A/C system.

This Carrera is powered by an air-cooled 3.2L flat-six engine capable of sending up to 207 HP to the rear wheels through a 5-speed 915 manual gearbox with an optional limited-slip differential (220). An upgraded Borla muffler and K&N air filter have been installed and the seller notes that routine service has been kept up to date under their ownership including transmission fluid flushes, valve adjustments, and oil changes.

This sale will include owner's manuals, a toolkit, an air compressor, and a branded title (odometer exceeds mechanical limits). If you are in search of driver-grade air-cooled Targa, this 1986 example is not to be overlooked.

PCARMARKET ..Should prevent you from bidding against yourself or just raise your bids automatically to your Max only if anyone else is bidding too?

  • FasttrackJack (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

So, let me get this straight... @elevated911 is at max bid... after having raised bidding from $16k to $25k. Is this a done deal?

  • Elevated991 (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@Koolbilly123 didn't realize it worked like that meaning I though it was atomically incrementally bidding up to my max

  • Koolbilly123 (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

Elevated991 .. why are you bidding against yourself??
    Just curious Thx.

  • Molly133 (seller) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@JustOneMore yes I just looked on passenger side above jack point, it does look like paint chip but might be a slight flake of rust. No other place on car has chip like what you see in picture

    @CastorHama Hi
There was a rock chip I thing you are seeing, yes I did touch it up where the chip was. The car is 30 + yrs old and yes there will be a chip here or there but overall it’s in great shape.

  • CastorHama (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@CastorHama Sorry, plastic list should be plastic trim

  • CastorHama (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

Hi, It would be great to get to see a video of it running, but I guess it's not much time left for you to upload it. Do you have any closer pictures of the respray on the left fender (looks like a piece of the paint has come of and then been sprayed over without any bodywork or filler bit would be nice to have a comment and closer pic).
From the side pictures you get a glimpse of bubbly paint in the close to the sills where the black plastic list is. Could we get a close up of that area?

  • JustOneMore (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@Molly133 - In some of the picture you can see a small bulge on the rocker panels ( possible rust or body work ? )a few inches above the jack point on each side of the car , much more pronounced on the passenger side , pictures 41 & 42 on passenger side, and on drivers side 18-26-29. can you take some close up pictures of those areas ?

@XHILLR8 Previous owner stated car had a slight fender bender. My Porsche mechanic drove and stated car is nice with no issues so I bought car and have car 25 yrs with NO issues. I would speculate the car was touched up after fender bender. This car is solid and as perfect as can be for its age.

  • Molly133 (seller) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@JustOneMore I can’t get pictures to upload. The bottom of car looks good.

  • XHILLR8 (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@Molly133 / Randy... any rust issues...visible or emerging under paint? If so, to what extent? Original paint? The Carfax shows an accident in '91... is this a mistake on Carfax's part? If not, were you disclosed on the level of damage? Any other issues? Sorry for the barrage of questions...but very interested in the car.

  • JustOneMore (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

Any chance of some pictures of the underside of the car and the frunk and under carpet on driver and passenger side ( areas prone to rust )?

  • Molly133 (seller) 2 years, 10 monthsago

    @urfealex Hello
Having a hard time uploading video, car starts as should with no issues. Car drives as expected perfect.
    Thanks Randy

Could you please post cold start-up and driving videos? This would help answer some questions for me. Thanks in advance.

  • Caymanorcarrera (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

They never wear out. There’s a reason they’re appreciated ridiculously in the last 10 years.

I’ve dealt with the Targa tops, AC and cruise. None are likely to be difficult or super expensive. None are urgent. Perfect old original 911 to drive, tinker with and improve.

Spoilers should be matched.....delete rear or add front. First year “big vent” car. Significant if one wants to attempt an AC resurrection.

The plush carpets in frunk were optional.
