Up for auction is this 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa finished in Paint to Sample Marble Grey over a Dark Blue full leather interior.  This beautifully appointed Targa is said to have been under the long-term care of a doctor who kept the car at his home in Hawaii before it was eventually moved to New York in 2016.  It was recently acquired by the seller who subsequently commissioned a full engine-out service including replacements of all fuel lines.  Showing just over 60k miles on the odometer, this classic air-cooled Targa is being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.

This 911 was delivered in the rare Paint to Sample color of Marble Grey, a light nonmetallic shade reminiscent of the early Heron Grey color offered on the 356 model.  Updated H5 factory headlights have been installed and the seller reports the rear decklid and driver side quarter panel to have been previously refinished.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.  This Targa rides on factory 16” painted Fuchs wheels which feature colored Porsche center crests and Bridgestone Potenza tires.

Inside, you will find a well-preserved Dark Blue full leather (VA) interior with new Coco floor mats.  Upgraded speakers have been installed along with a newer Porsche CR-210 radio.  Factory features include a power-adjustable driver seat, cruise control, and air conditioning.  In 2017, the third brake light bulb was replaced as well as the driver’s side mirror glass and driver’s seat switches.  The A/C was recently serviced along with repair of the Targa top in preparation for sale, and all gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.

This Carrera is equipped with an air-cooled 3.2L flat-six engine that delivers up to 207 HP and 192 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox.  A major engine-out service was recently completed at a cost of over $6,800 including all new fuel lines, valve cover gaskets, belts, filters, and ignition components, as well as carbon cleaning on the idle control valve.  Corresponding invoices are provided for reference in the photo gallery.

This sale will include the original owner's manuals and documentation wallet, a set of keys with a leather key pouch, service records, and a clean title. An excellent choice for collectors and air-cooled Porsche enthusiasts alike, this tastefully configured 1986 Targa is not to be overlooked.

@Thatsmycar72 There is no rust. I believe I answered the matching numbers question. I do not have a C of A but confirmed it’s a matching numbers car with POA.

  • Thatsmycar72 (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Any luck on the CoA? Any rust on the car?

  • trharlan (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@trharlan sorry @driverM I missed your reply somehow on the wiring issue.

  • trharlan (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

It's beautiful, but I too would like the seller to explain the invoice for rewiring several interior items.

  • DriverM (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@danwink Thanks. I will work on getting that letter. That is a good idea......

  • danwink (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@DriverM I’m not a bidder on this, but just trying to help you with how easily you can get one from Porsche. Took me 5 minutes and 0 dollars to have an email from Porsche of America with verifying info.

  • DriverM (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@danwink I spoke to someone I know at Porsche. The only way to get the C of A with the engine and transmission numbers is to bring the car to a Porsche Classic Dealer and to have a full inspection done.
My connection at Porsche verified that the engine and transmission in this car are original to the car.
If the next owner wants to have the certification done, that will be up to them. I will guarantee based on my research that the numbers match.

  • danwink (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@DriverM The CoA’s don’t include engine or transmission numbers anymore. I spoke to the nice folks @ Porsche regarding my 1986 paint to sample and they were happy to craft an email with the information. I would recommend you spend 10 mins on the phone with PofA and post here. This will help the auction.

@Thatsmycar72 I do not have a C of A but spoke to someone at Porsche who confirmed that it's a matching numbers car and I will guarantee that.

  • Thatsmycar72 (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Still wondering if you have a certificate of authenticity for the car? Thanks for your help.

  • DriverM (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

The undercarriage photos have been submitted.

  • Thatsmycar72 (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@DriverM I’ll look for the new photos soon. Thanks. Does it have a CoA ?

  • DriverM (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@Thatsmycar72 It is a matching numbers car. I verified that with Porsche.
I’m on my way to shoot undercarriage photos now. Will have them up ASAP.

  • Thatsmycar72 (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@Airhead There was a custom stereo that I removed and put it back to a stock configuration. Those charges were for that work.

  • Airhead (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Hello ,can the Owner please explain the invoice for rewiring several interior items. What was the cause for repairs ?

I have a coupe in this same color combination. It is interesting that some 1986 cars seem to come as PTS yet the sticker in my car uses the Marble Grey color code as it was a standard color offering that year. The color is interesting, looks white in direct sunlight but can appear very grey in other conditions.
