This 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa is presented in Guards Red with a Black interior and comes equipped from the factory with optional features such as a limited-slip differential, a sport steering wheel, a central locking system, and more. Cared for by a Porsche technician with 50 years of experience, this Targa is now being offered for auction out of Florida with approximately 130k miles on the odometer.
This 911 is finished in the classic shade of Guards Red and features a black removable roof panel with a matching Targa bar and a glass dome rear window. It comes factory-equipped with an optional rear wiper and 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels, currently fitted with Continental Extreme Sport tires from 2022 with approximately 1,500 miles driven. The right front fender, hood, and small area under the left headlight were repainted before the previous owner's delivery in 1997. The seller also notes the front and rear window seals show some signs of wear and cracks, the front bumper has road chips below the molding, the Targa top rear seal displays some wear, the Targa bar shows some stains/discoloration, and there is a small dent on the driver-side fender near the door/window area. Detailed images, including paint meter readings and parts receipts, are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The interior is appointed with Black partial leather and includes an optional sport steering wheel. It comes equipped with power windows and mirrors, a central locking system, a climate control system, cruise control, and electric height-adjustable seats. The seller indicates the original radio unit has been replaced and reports all gauges and accessories to be working properly.
The air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine generates up to 207 HP and 192 lb.-ft of torque, delivering power to the rear wheels through a Type 915 5-speed manual transmission. Since acquiring the car on June 15, 2022, the seller, a Porsche technician since 1973, notes the following service items have been completed:
- Replaced windshield washer pump, both horns, battery, and rear-view mirror.
- Removed engine/transmission to address oil leaks; replaced intermediate shaft "O" ring, front main seal, rear main seal, head temp sensor, oil pressure switch, breather housing gasket, and thermostat "O" ring.
- Replaced clutch and resurfaced flywheel.
- Replaced fuel and air filter, ignition wires, and both belts.
- Powder coated fan and housing.
- Replaced left and right inner and outer axle boots.
- Replaced both heater control boxes and cable housings.
- Rebuilt all four calipers, repainted, and installed new pads and hardware, along with resurfacing rotors and replacing flex brake lines.
- Removed oil tank, cleaned, repainted, and installed a new sending unit gasket.
- Replaced supply and return oil lines from thermostat to the engine along with "S" flex hose; replaced front flex oil lines from thermostat to front cooler.
- Transmission: Replaced 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear synchros along with 1st-2nd operating sleeve; 3rd gear needle bearing was cracked and therefore also replaced.
- Replaced the alternator due to erratic charging/discharging (new Alt has a 3-year warranty).
- Installed Turbo tie rods and aligned the car.
- Checked and recharged AC with R134. The system was previously converted.
- Removed and repainted the rear bumper due to rock chips.
- Replaced the driver's side seat reclining motor and repaired the wire harness.
- The engine still had a front oil leak, and it was determined that the source was the front-nose bearing "O" ring. Therefore, the engine was disassembled, and the main, rod, and oil pump shaft bearings were replaced along with the timing chains New ARP rod bolts were used as well as new seals and gaskets in the re-assembly. Replaced all three engine flexible fuel lines and all six injectors.
- Replaced engine compartment soundproofing.
- Replaced front ball joints.

I know I already asked for a driving video and you said you were working in it. It is very important to have one. It reveals any odd noises and even though the bidder cant drive the car ,we can hear noises (both good and bad) listen for clunks in the suspension , watch and see how the car tracks down the road, is the steering wheel shaking, does the transmission have a whine and is it going into gear with out a "crunch" and so many other cues that can help make a decision without actually test driving the car.

WGris- At this time no leaks have been observed. The car is going in for 1000 mile check up and oil change after the build next week so I will have a better observation of overall health.

urfealex -The top appears to leak a few drops on the inside of each window. I have had 6-7 Targa's in the past and they all leaked a little. No problem with the top off and that is the only way I drive it...

tff- I do not know why is was resprayed only that the work was written on the deal sheet when the previous owner purchased the car on 03/08/1997. What stage paint that was used is unknown. However, the match is perfect and very hard to tell without looking very close. Yes, pix 12 shows the small dent. It came from the underside which baffles me as I cannot figure out how that happened.
Do you know why the painting of some panels was done back in the 90's? Looks like it was over-sprayed in those areas as the paint meter thicknesses are higher there... is that correct? Is the repaint single stage paint as well? And in person is there a noticeable difference in color between the repainted areas and original areas?
Does slide 12 show the dent that is referred to? (Hard to tell exactly where that is).

jackal0506- No leakdown has or was done but we did a compression test and the results were the following:
1- 180; 2- 180; 3-175; 4-180; 4- 180; 6- 180. I have photos of the test and will send to Pcar to upload.
jackal0506- Top end was done previously by the Werkshop at 124,234 miles. This included rings, new case studs and the heads were done by OliiesEngineering on the West coast. (One of the best in the country). Since the engine only had approximately 6K on it, there was no need to redo these items. However, the heads were disassembled and a visual inspection was done and valve guide seals replaced. Ring gaps were checked and within specs. Absolutely no smoking on either cold start or warm running. Pcar has the invoice showing top end works and parts list. I will request they post in the gallery.
Looks like you did a great job bring her back to life. When you had the engine disassembled did you replace then valve guides and or the piston rings?
Once completed dis you perform a leak down test?
