We are pleased to present this 1986 Porsche 930 Turbo finished in Silver Metallic over a black leather interior with factory Sport Seats.  Among the most iconic sports cars of the era, this 1986 Turbo comes accompanied by its original stamped maintenance book as well as a vast collection of records and documentation.  An upgraded intercooler, air intake, exhaust, and wastegate have been installed and a major engine-out service has been recently completed at a cost of over $27k including a transmission rebuild, engine reseal, a new clutch, new fuel lines, and an overhaul of the fuel injection and air conditioning systems. This well-sorted 930 Turbo is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Maine.

This 930 is presented in its factory-specified color of Silver Metallic (L936). Exterior features include wide fenders, front and rear spoilers, an electric sliding sunroof, integrated front fog lights, and staggered-width 16” Fuchs alloy wheels which come dressed in BF Goodrich tires.  Additional images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, the cabin features factory optional Sport Seats trimmed in black leather with electric height adjustment.  A Porsche Classic radio with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility has been installed along with upgraded speakers in the doors and rear shelf. The seller adds that there was no cutting involved during the installation of the speakers. The cabin is described to be well preserved with a very light patina and some shrinkage on the dashboard upholstery. The speedometer/odometer is said to have been replaced in 1993, and there is a corresponding note in the original maintenance book documenting the replacement at 25,354 miles which is corroborated by the CARFAX report. The total mileage on the car is reported to be approximately 49k miles and an image of the original odometer is provided in the gallery. All gauges and accessories are said to remain fully functional and the seller adds that the original audio components will be included with the sale.

The air-cooled 3.3L flat-six turbocharged engine sends as much as 282 HP stock to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. Period performance upgrades include a Kokeln intercooler and air intake as well as a full Autohaus exhaust system.  An upgraded TiAL 1-bar wastegate has also been installed for increased boost pressure. The original maintenance booklet shows service stamps from 1986 to 1996, and additional service records are said to cover 1996 to 2018.  A comprehensive engine-out service was carried out in March of 2021 at a cost of over $27k, a corresponding invoice is provided for reference in the photo gallery.

This sale will be accompanied by the original stamped maintenance book, all original parts including the factory speedometer, a genuine Porsche Classic tool roll, and a clean title. A removable magnetic Martini Racing livery is also said to be included.

@porsche_dreamer my pleasure! Feel free to ask any other questions or you can DM for my cell if you want to chat.

@liftthrottle Thanks for your prompt responses.

  • liftthrottle (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@porsche_dreamer sorry, forgot to say that it appears to be original paint as far as I can tell and has the usual stone chips and some touch ups on the front bumper and hood.

  • liftthrottle (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@porsche_dreamer unfortunately, I don’t have them and can’t get them before 3pm today…. Sorry. Also, these G series 911s were all hand finished by Porsche so the readings are usually all over the place anyway. I think either the 964 or 993 generation cars were the first with a “modern” factory body shop and would have consistent readings from the factory.

  • porsche_dreamer (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

Hi, do you have paint meter readings?

  • liftthrottle (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    Coming down the home stretch!
Happy bidding all, I will be keeping an eye open for any questions or comments today.

  • liftthrottle (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@01s2 all the original parts except consumables come with the car as described. The option tag in the hood is shown in the gallery, I do not have a COA for the car. It does not have cruise control and the AC was updated to R134a with a new dryer as part of the big service last winter at SSA.

  • 01s2 (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

Liftthrottle, forgot to ask, do you have the list of options on the car? A COA? Does it have cruise control and does the AC work?

  • 01s2 (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

Liftthrottle, hi. You said that you have all original parts, I assume they come with the car? Thanks!

  • InsatiableAmos (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@InsatiableAmos I’ve had it for about 2 years and a dealer friend of mine had it for about 4 years before that and he bought it from his friend who was the last registered owner. I have added about 2000 miles I think. I have documentation from previous ownership and all the stock parts that were removed over the years like the full exhaust, intercooler, etc.

  • InsatiableAmos (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@liftthrottle How long have you owned the car, and how many miles have you added under your ownership?

Any notes or knowledge on previous ownership?

    Hi again,
In the interest of 100% transparency, here is everything that I know is wrong with the car:
    1. There are two small stone chips on the windshield that I had “fixed” by Safelite auto glass. They are still visible but should not spread.
    2. The passenger seat height adjusters seem to be jammed. The motors and switches are working but the screw adjusters are stuck. I have not had a chance to take the seat apart and remedy the situation.
    3. The normal blower motor (located in the front trunk area, not for the auto hear or AC) seems to be acting up or dying. This literally happened right as I was putting the car away for the season. These are readily available and cost a few hundred dollars at most.

Once again, I am happy to answer any and all questions.

  • liftthrottle (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@Rheltzer1 probably not as I’m trying to thin the herd a bit but thanks for your interest!

Any interest in trade for a 1965 Superformance Cobra? Signed by Carroll Shelby, Bob Banderant and Alan Grant. Car is perfect. Thanks

  • sportscarguy3 (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    A very nice 930 Turbo ( imho )
Recent ( major ) service , upgrades and low miles
A winning combination I would suggest
I recently purchased a 1987 93 Turbo, 38 K miles, so interested in this auction
    Good luck to all !

  • liftthrottle (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    Hi everyone!
Welcome to the auction of my personal Porsche 930. I am technically a “Dealer” but this 930 and a ‘65 Mustang Shelby clone are cars I bought for my own personal use and have kept as I scaled down and closed my classic car dealership over the last few years. Earlier this year I did a no expense spared service of the car at South Shore Autoworks with the intent of keeping the car forever. I am selling because I just don’t drive it enough and it deserves to be used! The car is completely reliable and able to be daily driven. Any and all items that might compromise the reliability and safety of a 35 year old car have been replaced or restored. I am happy to answer any and all questions. I am located outside of Boston but the car was recently moved to my house in Saco,Maine for the winter to make garage space. It can be seen or driven there with some notice. Happy bidding!
