Finished in black over a matching full leather interior with Sport Seats, this Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe marks the return of the 930 Turbo to Porsche’s U.S. model range in 1986. It was recently subjected to service by a classic car specialist and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Texas.
Compared to a contemporary 911 Carrera, the 930 Turbo features flared fenders to accommodate wider wheels and tires along with a front air dam and a distinctive Tea Tray rear spoiler. This Coupe is finished in Black and rides on polished factory 16” Fuchs alloy wheels dressed in Bridgestone Potenza tires from 2016/2017. The seller describes the exterior to be in good driver quality and notes all cosmetic imperfections are depicted in the gallery along with an accident-free CARFAX report.
The driver is greeted by a black leather interior with matching carpet, headliner, and optional electrically adjustable Sport Seats. Other equipment includes air conditioning, a central locking system, power windows and mirrors, an electric sunroof, cruise control, a rear window wiper, and a sound system paired with an aftermarket Alpine Bluetooth radio. The clock is not working and the seller notes the odometer was previously replaced. The car’s true mileage is unknown.
A turbocharged and intercooled 3.3-liter flat-six engine provides up to 282 HP to the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed manual transmission. The 930 features large brakes derived from the 917 race car as well as firmer shock absorbers and thicker rear torsion bars compared to a 911 Carrera. This example was recently serviced by the specialists at Team CJ including A/C system maintenance and a new battery. The seller adds that the car runs and drives very well with no outstanding service items.

@Pcars The dash does look quite new, so I expect it has been replaced. I have no information about the heads being rebuilt, recently or otherwise.

I notice in the second driving video that the driver doesn’t rev the motor anywhere near as much as he did in the first driving video. Not sure if that’s relevant to the ticking sound I heard or not.
The 930 Turbo is a handsome Porsche black black is my favorite and one that I’ve enjoyed owning in the past. Additionally, the polish Fuchs are an excellent look on this car.
The issues for me as a California buyer are with the undetermined sound during the driving video not having any of the original exhaust parts for Smog compliance, etc. and registration here in California
Not a lot of maintenance history either something I consider very important when purchasing a Porsche
probably a good opportunity for somebody that is mechanically inclined with Porsches., and or has access to parts and things

@Coldbru Thanks for the obviously well informed and considered posting. I’ve said from the beginning that this is a driver quality car. Having said that, it’s a great driver in great colors. Whilst clearly not a pampered show car by any means, it also has nothing to apologize for. I get as much positive feedback turning up in this car as I do in some of the cars worth several million dollars that I am privileged to drive.

Good morning folks, I have no skin in this game, I’m just an enthusiast and love the 930 and have owned several. Here are some facts. You can definitely nit pick the car if you want but let’s make sure we are accurate.
1- it is definitely a US model, and a bit of modest research will reveal that. It’s revealed based on the Vin, which is clearly stamped in the truck, on the window pillar, and then the door jam.
2- I too hear the engine sounds complained of that is pointed out consistent with increase in RPMs. This is the exhaust most likely, it is loud, go find other videos with a B&B exhaust on acceleration and it sounds the same way. I can tell you in real life, it sounds awesome, but in the videos, not so much. Let’s be honest, sounds like some marbles rattling around, but again this is most likely the exhaust. There is no such thing as a loose valve, that would mean engine detonation, lol.
3-Factory exhaust components have been removed. It’s very common for this vintage car. I recognize a lot of the components because I have done the same modifications to my cars back in the day( With the same B&B system, although I do not know if the heat exchanger on this car is B&B) Now with the values of these cars skyrocketing, some people prefer them with original factory parts, but those can easily be sourced through the secondary markets and forums. If you’re in a particularly difficult state, you can get this car to pass emissions with those components. Thankfully, I live in a state where the car is emissions exempt, and full disclosure, I removed those exhaust items because it’s more horsepower. But nowadays, my cars are more original than ever.
4-there are many distinctions between euro cars and US version cars. I won’t go into them, but since we are continually coming back to this particular one, Rear bumperettes are one and easily changeable. This one has had its stock US ones replaced by euro ones. There are two mounting holes for euro bumperettes Which would normally not be visible,and four for US ones. You can see these bumperettes resting on holes on the leading edge towards the license plate. It’s not supposed to look like that, it only does because these euro bumperettes are narrower, Indicating they are not original to this car because 2 of the 4 holes are BARELY visible which would correctly mount the US bumperettes. Please no more chatter about these. It’s USA USA USA!
5- IMHO, here’s the deal with the car. It is driver condition that may need some paint work, and is most likely 100,000 mile car. You might have to spend a few bucks on emissions devices if you have a difficult state, but this is a cool car, black on black, Coupe,sport seats, vicious.
I would be a bidder because most likely this car is not going to go for premium money but good money. My problem is I already own too many cars so I’m not a bidder, just bored and viewing. But who knows, if this goes cheap I am going to jump in maybe.

In Texas specifically Harris , ft bend Waller county this car is only inspected for safety due to age. No emissions. That applies to all 25 year old cars and older. Love the spoiler. GLWTS

What is the opinion of the 2 holes on the outside of the rear bumpers for?
I do not think us bumpers are mounted that far apart. US bumpers are 12" each and the plate is 10" so that is 25" and the deck lid is 34" wide.
I can hear the noise @sportscarguy3 was speaking of. Sounds like a loose valve or an exhaust leak. Could be something resonating in the video but odd that it’s consistent with engine rpm. It’s only in the second video where you grab the exhaust by hand outside your store front.
@sportscarguy3 I do not have any of the old exhaust parts, and I really don’t know if the car would pass California smog testing.

He is suggesting that there are no catalytic converters. No air pump on the car.
I’m not sure about the heat exchangers. I’ll have to look again at the pictures.
However, with no cats and no smog pump/air pump I don’t believe there’s a chance that it could pass California smog

@IXXINut It’s definitely a US model, check the rear euro bumperettes Towards the license plate. You can just make out the holes by the which is covered by the leading edge of the bumperettes which is what should be there if you were to replace them with the US bumperettes Which require four holes for mounting. It looks like the four holes are there, the euro is only two holes.
Check the VIN folks, it’s a US model. Catalyst is removed along with the heat exchangers, And other smog bits like air pump etc. From eyeballing that exhaust, it looks to be vintage B&B from sometime in the 1990s. Smog exempt in my state on NY, could not offer an opinion on other states.
@sportscarguy3 The aftermarket exhaust is Billy Boat (BBE). I have no reason to believe it wouldn’t pass CA smog, although being in Texas I really can’t say. The “orange” you see at the passenger door speaker appears to be old glue residue. I have no previous service records, so I cannot say if or when an engine out service was performed.

I should have done a better video of the engine running and the drive, etc. I have just finished doing that, but this time we mic’d up the engine bay. The car had sat all weekend, so a legit cold start followed by a driving video. When I came back to the garage I let it idle for a while then revved it up to about 4k. Hopefully when I load the video shortly this will allay any concerns you might have about engine noise. It sounded good on the drive to me!
@IXXINut I’m 100% sure it is a US model. I posted an image of the A pillar vin over the weekend. I just now re-posted the A pillar vin and a pic of the emissions label in the engine bay. Not sure what else I can do or say on this?

@IXXINut Found the picture #205 of the B pillar VIN decal. Ot shows it to be to "Federal" specs. So maybe it is a USA vehicle and it might have been a misbuild with euro bumperettes, no front side marker lights, 3 Zs, etc. as it was built in January of 1986 when the Turbo first returned to the USA model line up since 1979.
PS. The Carfax shows the last time it failed smog check in California, sometimes that happens occasionally with the 930 turbos

Any record of engine out services valve adjustment etc. etc. in the last 50,000 miles and or since the odometer was swapped out?
@TeamCJ A picture of the "B" pillar VIN decal and the emissions decal in the engine compartment would help clear this up.
@TeamCJ This appears to be a non USA model for a number of reasons. 3 Zs in the under hood VIN. No front side marker lights. The speedo change was probably from a kilometer to miles.
I recently sold my 1987, 930 Turbo and certainly missing that car. This looks like a very nice example. I’ll be it with more miles than mine.
I am commenting and interested in the driving videos. There’s a ticking clicking sound that I hear in the engine something that I’ve never heard before and would be concerned about.
Seller can you comment on that?
I’ve owned my fair share of older air, cooled porches, and don’t recall hearing that ticking clicking as the engine revs

I just uploaded photos of the paint thickness readings. Fair to say most of the car is probably original paint. The bonnet and passenger door have obviously been painted. Hope this helps.

@Coldbru Revisiting the Carfax report it looks as if the first entry was 1991 when the car was already 5 years old, so perhaps that does suggest it is a Euro model?

@SDSU1993 I know very little of the car's history and I have no idea why the speedo was changed. In fact I am only assuming the speedo was changed because of a Carfax entry where the miles went from approximately 100k to approximately 50k.

Unfortunately that photo is one of the "close up" images I took of flaws in the paint. It is far less noticeable outside in sunlight, but the clear coat has been burned on the left rear wing.
In the next hour or so I submit photos of the service and repair invoices relating to the repairs we carried out when we first received the car last summer. Later today I will also put the car on a lift and take photos of the underside for you.
