We are pleased to present this 1986 928 S for auction.  The Porsche 928 was originally intended to replace the 911, but instead, found it’s own niche as Porsche’s iconic grand tourer.  This three-owner example had been with its original owner up until 2015.  Since then, the two most recent owners have refreshed the car and performed comprehensive maintenance.  Currently showing 124k miles on the odometer, this 928 and is being offered in excellent driving condition with a fresh timing belt and water pump replacement.

Finished in Special Order (999) Meteor Gray, this 928 is said to boast original paint with the exception of the front and rear bumper covers.  A full application of ceramic coating has been recently applied bringing this 928’s exterior finish to the next level.  This example rides on OEM 1988 S4 wheels wrapped in relatively new Bridgestone Potenza tires (less than 3.5k miles). These wheels are in the same style as the original “manhole” rims but sit one inch wider.

The Gray/Beige interior with velour stripes is said to be in well-above average condition.  The driver’s seat shows some creasing on the bolsters and the seller states that there is some minor cracking on the dash between the windshield vents. This car has been factory equipped with a sunroof and rear A/C which both remain fully functional.  The original buildsheet included a Hi-Fi sound package complete with a Blaupunkt Monterey SQR-23 radio and additional amplifier.  The seller has installed a genuine Porsche Classic Radio ($1200 upgrade).  This touchscreen radio offers superb sound quality, GPS navigation, Bluetooth capabilities and helps to maintain the original look of the interior.  There is also a vintage integrated Valentine One radar detection system installed.  All electronics and accessories are in excellent working order.

Power comes from a 5-liter 32v V8 engine which is mated to an automatic transmission and is capable of producing 288hp and 294 lb-ft of torque.  This venerable engine is unmodified and runs excellent.  In July of 2020, the current owner commissioned a full service at Porsche Santa Clarita which included the replacement of the timing belt and water pump service.  A 2015 top end refresh included new rubber hoses, vacuum lines, fuel lines, cleaned and rebuilt fuel injectors, a rebuild of the mass airflow sensor, new throttle position switch, and finally cleaning, stripping and powder coating the intake manifold "plenums and runners". Receipts totaling $5,000 are available for parts.  The current owner has had authorized dealers maintain the car annually since purchase. The seller notes that 13mm wheel spacers have been added which not only make for a better stance but also improve the overall handling and grip.  The car has recently had an alignment and has no mechanical issues to speak of.

Grand touring cars such as the 928 were some of the most expensive cars on the road at one time.  The 928’s uncanny ability to comfortably transport its passengers at high-sustained speeds set a new standard for the grand touring car.  By adding raw German horsepower to plush and decadent coupes, Porsche had blurred the line between sports car and luxury coupe.  These cars were the pinnacle of both comfort and performance and are coveted by enthusiasts to this day.

The sale will include two keys, original books, original radio, 14+ years of service records, and a clean Carfax report.  The opportunity to own such a well-maintained and complete 928 is becoming increasingly rare, as the market for these cars grows daily.  Do not miss out on this solid, ready to drive 928S.

@911airfan - PC CarMarket prose. I can tell you there isn't a mechanical system not working properly. The car came back June 29th from an open checkbook $5,300 service. A/C is very cold. I'll double check the receipts, but believe the freon was topped off when I got the car in 2016, but there have been no A/C issues and, no leaks, so should not need regular freon adds. I need all my cars to blow cold.

what does "no mechanical issues to speak of" mean?
Also when was the last A/C repair or charge done?

This car will basically reserve for my RECEIPTS in sorting and polishing it. Consider the car free. Once someone does that lift, they are quite reasonable to keep at that level.
