Now up for auction is this 1986 Porsche 928S finished in Silver Metallic.  Marking the final production year for the 928S, this 1986 example features an accomodating Burgundy leather interior and 5.0 L V8 engine paired with a refined 4-speed automatic transaxle.  Having undergone a comprehensive service and inception at the time of the seller’s purchase in January of 2019, this 928S is said to be in excellent running order and is now being offered for auction out of Virginia with approximately 161k miles showing on the odometer.

This 928 is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and an updated 928 S4-style front bumper and fenders are said to have been installed by a previous owner.  The paint is said to be in very good condition and the seller reports that the rear spoiler mounts have started to come loose, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.  This 928 rides on factory 16” “Manhole Cover” wheels that are said to have been dressed in brand new tires within the last 400 miles.

Upon entry, the driver is greeted by a luxurious Burgundy leather interior with matching carpets.  The cabin is said to be in good shape with some noted imperfections including a loose speaker grille on the driver’s door and some typical cracks along the dashboard.  The aftermarket radio is said to be nonfunctional and the ABS light is said to intermittently appear, although there are no reported issues with the actual ABS system.  All other gauges and accessories are said to be working properly.

This venerable grand tourer is equipped with a 5.0 L DOHC V8 engine that sends up to 288 HP and 302 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed automatic transaxle.  The timing belt and water pump are said to have been replaced about 8 years ago within the last 2k miles.  Following an inspection at the time of the seller’s purchase, the timing belt was found to be in good condition, although a new timing belt and water pump replacement kit will also be included in the sale to provide peace of mind for the next owner.  A clean CARFAX is provided in the photo gallery and this 928 is said to be in excellent driving condition with a recent wheel alignment and steering rack boot replacement.

This sale will include a factory toolkit (incomplete), a timing belt /water pump replacement kit, and a clean title.  A nicely presented driver-grade example, this 928S offers an incredible value for any enthusiast.

@LongwoodCharger Maybe this will work - I've stored the photo of the impeller side of the pump on google, as a public photo. Link follows-

@LongwoodCharger I can't seem to add a photo now that the car's been listed. I'll keep looking for a way to, for a while. The metal is darker than the aluminum housing... I'll try to get the photo up.

  • Kary4th (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@LongwoodCharger The impeller is metal. It's from 928 Motorsports, so it's not a weak, cheap metal one.

    @Kary4th
Can you show a pic of the other side of the water pump. Wondering if it is a metal or plastic impeller. thanks

  • Aussiejohn520 (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

That’s a pretty and cared for 928. Good for you seller.

@Acwilson.us It received a very thorough inspection, in addition to the required state safety inspection, last summer. The mechanicals are sound.
Apart from normal wear, the car is in fantastic condition. There are minor cracks on the dashboard, and if you look closely, there's minor wear on piping of the drivers seat bolster, and to the surface of the steering wheel.

  • Acwilson.us (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

    When was last inspection?

  • Kary4th (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@buccicone That's correct - as stated in the ad, this is a 1986.
A previous owner changed to the S4 bumper. They apparently liked the appearance of the front of the S4 enough to invest in the change. That's my best guess, anyway.

  • buccicone (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

Why the S4 front bumper? Not a fan. I guess with the higher mileage it won’t take away from ending price. Note, it’s not a ‘86.5.
