The Porsche 928 S was offered as the top-range model in its class from 1980-1986 showcasing additional standard features, front & rear spoilers, uprated brakes, and a more powerful V8 engine. This final-year example comes finished Silver Metallic over a Burgundy interior and is equipped with a rare 5-speed manual transaxle. Having been cared for by the same owner in Wisconsin for the last 10 years, this 928 S has undergone extensive recent service. It was recently sold on PCARMARKET and is being offered for auction once again by its seller out of Florida as the initial buyer failed to complete the transaction.

Compared to an entry-level 928, the “S” model could be distinguished by its black polyurethane front and rear spoilers as well as body-colored side moldings. This 1986 example comes finished in Silver Metallic (L936) and rides on factory 16” forged aluminum slotted disc wheels. New Hena Forceum tires were recently installed, and the seller notes the front bumper was previously refinished. The exterior is described to be in very good overall condition for its age with some minor swirl marks present in the paint. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

This 928 S features a Burgundy partial leather (YZ) interior with an optional elevated steering wheel hub, sound system, amplifier, and anti-theft device. Standard features include power windows and mirrors, electrically adjustable seats, a coin holder, cruise control, automatic climate control, a central locking system, and a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel. This example is equipped with an original Blaupunkt AM/FM cassette stereo. The seller notes the driver’s side rear seat has a very small rip which was previously repaired, and all gauges and accessories remain fully functional.

A naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine delivers up to 288 HP and 302 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle. Stopping power comes from fixed 4-piston brakes and ventilated discs at each corner. The seller notes a major service was recently completed including A/C system maintenance with new valves and R134 refrigerant as well as new oil, air, and fuel filters, new spark plugs, and new rear suspension bushings & shocks. Corresponding service records are said to accompany the sale.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a spare tire, an air pump, some service records, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Miami Garage Classics is proud to offer this highly original and unmolested 1986 Porsche 928 S with manual transmission. The color combination of silver exterior over burgundy interior makes this vehicle stand out. The vehicle is as close to the original as possible and was completely unmolested or modified. Everything works as it should, the AC blows extremely cold and the car needs nothing.”

@porsche_dreamer I'm not sure until what year this rule applies, but that seems to be the case for this car as well.

  • porsche_dreamer (registered bidder) 6 months, 1 weekago

Thanks. Had understood that to be the case for much earlier cars than 1986 (especially those that had to be "federalized").

  • MiamiGarageClassics (seller) 6 months, 1 weekago

@porsche_dreamer Hello, it's usual on classic Porsches to have the ''Euro'' VIN number stamped on the car and the ''US" VIN number on the windshield plate, door jam decal, and title.
You can find more information on this on every Porsche forum.

  • MiamiGarageClassics (seller) 6 months, 1 weekago

@MJK Hello, sorry but I don't fully understand your question.
In my personal opinion, the car is ready for a long drive with no excuses.
If the car may need repairs or maintenance in the future? That's something I can't tell, what I'm able to tell is that it does not need anything at the moment.
However, this is a 37-year-old car and should be treated as such, so most probably will need repairs and maintenance in the future as every classic car.
I hope this helps and please let me know if you need anything more specific.

  • MiamiGarageClassics (seller) 6 months, 1 weekago

@vivajosue Hello, looking at the car from below the exhaust system seems to be original, and catalytic converters are there.
I'm personally not familiar with the CA smog test requirements, but it looks like the system is absolutely original from factory.

  • MJK (registered bidder) 6 months, 1 weekago

What about the different VIN Numbers??

  • porsche_dreamer (registered bidder) 6 months, 1 weekago

Why is the VIN different between that indicted in pic 91 vs the listing info?

  • MJK (registered bidder) 6 months, 1 weekago

So the read says nothing needed at the moment... Define moment as 6 months with no known future problem foreseen, such as an alternator charges<
<12.5v at the battery which will need replacement in the near future?? Anything known to a person of reasonable understanding related to automobiles, that may require known near future replacement or repair?? Can it be driven home 1500 miles away upon receipt?

  • vivajosue (registered bidder) 6 months, 1 weekago

Does the vehicle have a cat converter? WIll it pass CA smog test?

Picture 129 was added showing the factory original pouch including owner manuals and original radio documents.

  • MiamiGarageClassics (seller) 6 months, 1 weekago

@vivajosue There is no historical information about work done on the water pump or timing belt unfortunately.
About the electrics of the car, everything is working as it should with no known issues at the moment.

  • MiamiGarageClassics (seller) 6 months, 1 weekago

@vivajosue Good morning, about the interior, the whole interior is completely stock and in excellent condition. The only visible flaw is on the lower area of the rear seat on the driver's side where you can see an area with some discoloration, approximately one inch in diameter. A picture of this was added to the auction (picture 128).
Aside from that, the leather on the four seats looks almost perfect with no rips, tears, or excessive wear.
The shift boot is loose on the base, you can clip it back in place but after some movement it comes loose again.
The headliner is in perfect shape (picture 130).
About the dashboard and pod, cracks on the dashboard are very minor and barely noticeable, cracks on the pod are bigger but they look more ''superficial', with very little depth. IMHO (pictures 126 and 127).
The glovebox is in perfect shape (picture 131).

  • vivajosue (registered bidder) 6 months, 2 weeksago

Hi seller. Interior looks nice. Trying to see what flaws the interior has. Is the shift boot loose? What else needs work? Any rips in the leather. How is the headliner? Dash, pod, and glove box? The more detail you can give me the better. Thanks!

While we are not able to deliver the car in Italy, we can help you with all the export process in USA, being preparing all the documents and delivering the car to your forwarder of choice anywhere in US. I didn't see any rust but would like verification. Also if you don't mind what did it sell for last time? Interested.
    Thanks

Good morning, I'm an Italian guy looking for bying a car. I'm iteresting to this 928 and also 944 turbo S with red interiors (if is possible of course).
Question is, did you deliver the car eventually in Italy?
Many thanks for your time in reading and answering.
    Luca

  • GrandNatty (registered bidder) 6 months, 2 weeksago

@MiamiGarageClassics - I see the dash cracks, is the Pod clean/uncracked?

  • MiamiGarageClassics (seller) 6 months, 2 weeksago

@GrandNatty Hello, the car was sold to the higher bidder of the auction ended on September 13th. Pcarmarket got to an agreement with the bidder after the auction ended with no sale. Once the agreement was done, the auction showed the car as sold.
Unfortunately, the initial buyer failed to complete the transaction and Pcarmarket relisted the auction here.

  • GrandNatty (registered bidder) 6 months, 2 weeksago

@MiamiGarageClassics - confused, this never shows as "sold" on Pcar. It was a dealtank. So a deal tank was made and then not followed through on?

  • MiamiGarageClassics (seller) 6 months, 2 weeksago

Hello! We'll be assisting all the bidders during the auction, please feel free to ask questions!
Also, as it is described by the Pcarmarket team, this vehicle is again for sale due to the initial buyer's failure to complete the transaction.
