Now up for auction is this 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo finished in Garnet Red Metallic over a black partial leather interior.  Representing the inaugural model year of the 944 Turbo, this 1986 example came optioned with a limited-slip differential, a removable sunroof panel, deletion of body preservation coating, and code “900” indicating it was delivered to the original customer at the factory in Germany before being imported to the U.S.  This Turbo is said to have been dealer maintained in Illinois up until 2003 at 65k miles before it was eventually acquired by the current owners in 2012.  A major mechanical overhaul was performed earlier in 2021 including a rebuild of the head, new vacuum and coolant hoses, a new timing belt, water pump, fuel injectors, turbocharger, and much more.  Showing just over 123k miles on the odometer, this 944 Turbo is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

This 951 is presented in Garnet Red Metallic and features a Turbo-specific nose with integrated front fog lights as well as a body-colored diffuser located beneath the rear bumper.  The car is believed to have been refinished during the early 2000s and the seller notes that the paint on the hood appears to be thinning. A small crack in the paint is reported toward the rear driver’s side quarter panel as well as a chip on the driver’s side mirror and a few small dents on the hood.  A small dent is also noted on the rear towards the Turbo emblem, additional images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.  This 944 rides on factory 16" Phone Dial wheels currently dressed in a set of Dunlop tires which are said to bear approximately 50 miles of use.

Inside, you will find a black partial leather interior with a factory alarm system, removable sunroof panel, air conditioning, and power windows.  Modifications include a digital air-fuel ratio gauge, analog boost gauge, manual boost controller, and an aftermarket Sony stereo with upgraded 4”x6” door speakers.  Updated power-operated seats were also sourced from a Porsche 964. Signs of age and wear are noted throughout the cabin including cracks on the dashboard and some seam separation on the driver’s seat cushion.  The seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be working properly.

This 944 is equipped with a turbocharged 2.5L inline 4-cylinder engine that sends approximately 220 HP and 243 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle.  This example was factory equipped with performance-oriented options including a limited-slip differential (220) and deletion of the body preservation coating for weight savings (666).  Aftermarket performance upgrades include a Lindsay Racing dual port wastegate, a Lindsay Racing 3” exhaust system with Magnaflow muffler and polished tip, a Bosch 3-bar fuel regulator, an Evolution Motorsports diverter valve, a Vitesse racing chip, KLA strut brace, Lindsay Racing steam vent kit, and new Lindsay Racing fuel lines, vacuum hoses, and intercooler boots.  Records show the car to have been dealer maintained up until 65k miles with a timing belt service later at 95k miles.  A major mechanical overhaul was completed by the seller in January of 2021 including a rebuild of the heads with new valves, guides, seals, and gaskets, as well as the installation of a new heater core, water pump, coolant expansion tank, thermostats, timing belt, auxiliary belts, roller bearings, flow-matched fuel injectors, and a new turbocharger.  Other items include new cam followers, new oil and air filters, new ignition components, and stainless-steel exhaust manifold hardware.

This sale will include the original owner's manuals and dealer maintenance book, a spare tire, toolkit, air compressor, and a clean title.  With a considerable amount of service carried out in preparation for sale, this nicely equipped first-year 944 Turbo is just waiting to begin its journey with a new owner.

@PMason thank you for your interest in this beautiful car. There have been no track days and no competitive driving events logged with this car since 2012. I highly doubt any events prior to that. No hard shifting, no launches/ clutch dropping, no over spinning engine. There is no rust in engine compartment, doors, storage wells, or trunk/ spare tire area. The car is 35 years old and once lived in Illinois so there is some minor surface corrosion to be expected. The car was driven approximately 3,500 miles per year which is fairly low. The car has been garage kept since we acquired it in 2012, and the previous owner to us also garage kept it.

How many track days or other performance driving events in this 951 during current ownership? Is there any rust in the undercarriage, engine bay, doors, etc? This 951 has been driven a lot during current ownership. Not necessarily a bad thing.

@Inline4 thank you for your interest.
No I do not have the original seats. The seats installed are an upgrade, better leather, more adjustability.

  • Inline4 2 years, 8 monthsago

Where are the original (sport) seats?

  • Sprint52 (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@artichoke All of the panels match and shine nicely. The whole car was painted. No overspray, no slop, Orange peel, or any other goofy texture. The car looks nice.
