Now available for auction is this rare 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet M491 “Turbo-Look” finished in Black over a Beige leather interior.  Representing one of the very few M491 Cabriolet’s sold in the United States for the 1986 model year, this highly collectible 911 is factory equipped with the front and rear spoilers, brakes, and wide fenders of the 930 Turbo model.  Having been under the diligent care of its 2nd private owner for almost 20 years, this M491 Cabriolet is said to be in excellent overall condition while remaining highly original.  It is now being offered by its seller in Connecticut with approximately 53k miles displayed on the odometer and accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

Reported to have been garaged for most of its life, the Black finish on this 911 is said to be in very good condition with only minor stone chips on the front end (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  The M491 package adds the wide fenders of the Turbo model as well as a front spoiler with fog lights and a Tea Tray rear decklid.  The original Cabriolet top is said to have been kept in good shape with some minor refurbishments on the inner upholstery.  Factory 16" Fuchs wheels are equipped and dressed in healthy Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 tires.

The Beige leather interior is said to be in excellent condition except for some minor wear on the driver’s seat bolster and a small separation of the dashboard toward the bottom of the windshield.  An alternative 3-spoke Porsche steering wheel has been installed along with an aftermarket radio, although both original components will be included in the sale.  The air conditioning does not blow cold at this time; however, the seller confirms all other gauges and accessories to be working properly.

This Carrera is equipped with an air-cooled 3.2 L flat-six engine that is capable of sending 207 HP to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transmission.  As an M491 equipped model, this Carrera offers improved stopping power thanks to its brakes derived from the 911 Turbo.  An image of the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity is provided in the photo gallery.  The engine is reported to have never left the car and all routine maintenance has been kept up to date including regular oil changes and the replacements of the rear wheel bearings in 2016.  A comprehensive collection of records is included from the current owner and this 911 is said to drive beautifully.

This sale will include a set of 2 keys, the original books, tools, and spare tire, service records, a clean title, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.  A true collector’s item, this rare 1986 M491 Cabriolet is ready to be enjoyed by a new caretaker.

@911dudette Sorry I just noticed your questions.
Regarding the ac yes the compressor kicks on it just doesn’t blow cold air and the top is factory as is the rest of the car with the noted exceptions (steering wheel and radio) both originals come with the sale.
The top operates by releasing two hold downs at the windshield and manually folds back.

  • 911dudette (registered bidder) 3 years, 5 monthsago

DiamondDealer - two follow up questions: regarding the A/C and top. Does the compressor kick on? Regarding the top, was the top manual from the factory? I am only familiar with electric tops and not sure how the manual functions. Are there just two latches up front on the windshield which, once unlatched, one simply folds the roof back? Thank you again for your information.

@SPIDER48 I am not sure why the bonnet factory sticker dosn't show the option, however the Certificate from Porsche confirmes the M491 option.
Regarding shipping it would be the purchasers responsibility.

    Hello Sir
You assist world wide shipping ?
Why is the option off the WTL not mention on the sticker untherneed off the front bonnet ?

    Thx for your replay

    @brobinso Good morning,
Yes the vehicle is a number matching vehicle.
I will attempt to take better photos of the service records and post.

  • brobinso (registered bidder) 3 years, 5 monthsago

Thanks for the additional photos. Without seeing the engine and transmission stampings, I assume this is a numbers matching car. Can you confirm? Finally, is there a way to review the service documents in photo #42?

  • DiamondDealer (seller) 3 years, 5 monthsago

@brobinso I will take a photo later tomorrow afternoon but I also have a certificate from Porsche verifying the M491 option which is shown in the photos.

Looking forward to the additional photos and videos. Can you include the hood sticker to see the option codes? Thanks

  • 911dudette (registered bidder) 3 years, 5 monthsago

@DiamondDealer - Thank you for your responses. Looking forward to learning more once you get the additional information up.

  • DiamondDealer (seller) 3 years, 5 monthsago

@911dudette Thank you for your interest and to answer your questions,
Yes I am the second owner and will be posting photos of the underside of the vehicle, paint gauge readings and a driving video in the next couple of days.
Regarding the refurbished interior I have not done any work to it, however the previous owner changed the steering wheel and installed a Pioneer stereo in the vehicle.
The originals will come with the sale of the vehicle.
The wheel bearings are the only work other than general maintenance performed.

  • DiamondDealer (seller) 3 years, 5 monthsago

@CurtGT3RS Perhaps I should clarify the ac works just doesn't blow cold air.
The top is not a electric top therefore operates manually.

  • CurtGT3RS (registered bidder) 3 years, 5 monthsago

“Owners diligent care”.....meanwhile ac doesn’t work, and who knows about the top. Lol.

  • 911dudette (registered bidder) 3 years, 5 monthsago

Hi, I am interested in your car and would like to learn more. Are you the 2nd owner of the car for nearly 20 years referenced in the description? Will you be posting any photos of the underside of the car and/or paint gauge readings and/or a driving video? Also, would you please describe the refurbishments to the interior outlined in the description? Lastly, are the wheel bearings the only non-routine maintenance performed in the last 20 years? If not, would you please share the invoices from the work? Thanks.
