Created as a homologation special for the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) Touring Car Championship, the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16 debuted as a performance version of the 190E at the 1983 Frankfurt Motor Show featuring a Cosworth four-cylinder engine, an aerodynamic bodykit, and self-leveling sports suspension. This 1987 example was originally delivered in Japan and comes finished in Blue Black Metallic over a patterned cloth interior. The car has been imported to the United States and benefits from maintenance performed by the current owner over the past 2 years including new shocks and springs, a valve cover gasket, transmission service, and fresh fluids. Accompanied by a host of extra parts, this collectible 190E 2.3-16 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California while showing approximately 77k kilometers on the odometer.
The Cosworth-powered 190E differed from the standard W201 model by an aerodynamic bodykit which provided one of the lowest drag coefficients of any four-door sedan at the time. It includes flared wheel arches, side skirts, a body-colored front air dam, a rear valence, and a trunk-mounted spoiler. This example came factory finished in Blue Black Metallic (199) and features W124 E-Class 15” 8-hole wheels. The car rides on a set of Goodyear Eagle tires from 2019 showing approximately 5-6mm of tread depth. The seller notes some spider cracks are visible in the paint on the passenger rear quarter panel. The cabin is trimmed in black leather accented by patterned cloth inserts on the seat centers and door panels. Amenities include electrically adjustable front sport seats, individual bolstered rear seats, power windows and mirrors, air conditioning, a central locking system, heat-insulating glass, a heated rear window, cruise control, an outside temperature indicator, a digital stopwatch in the center console, and a sound system paired with an aftermarket Japanese radio. The seller notes the end sections of the driver’s side front and rear doors are separating and the center air vent bracket has been replaced. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional apart from the Japanese market radio.
The engine is based upon Mercedes’ M102 four-cylinder and features a Cosworth-built cylinder head with dual overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. Up to 197 HP is sent to the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller notes the original suspension has been replaced with new standard shocks and springs, although a pair of new rear self-leveling shocks (SLS) and associated hardware are included for the next owner. The car is said to have received new spark plugs and ignition wires prior to the seller’s purchase and has since undergone replacement of the valve cover gasket, an oil change, and new transmission gaskets, fluid, and filter.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a spare tire, a toolkit, and extra parts including new SLS rear shocks and lines.

Engine oil and filter have been changed, transmission has been serviced with new oil, filter, and gaskets, and the vehicle comes with 2 new SLS rear shocks and rear lines with hardware which were purchased from Germany. @ethanfischer Hi , driver side front and rear door panel s are peeling at the end of them caused by sitting in the garage high temperature of southern California last summer, hard to see in the picture, i have had a upholstery shop look at it and it can be re glued , no rust can be seen on body , of course there is always surface rust that can be seen on any car when an unpainted component are in contact with water such as suspension bolt ends , metal washers , etc, hope this clarifies things , let me know if you have more questions, thank you.

@pylonguy Hello thank you for info, i am just a car guy who has been around cars for a long time, own too many cars , always wanted to own a 190 2.3 , it happened to be an automatic and i really enjoyed driving it , any car that comes from Japan has to be mileage unknown, same with my car , the listing was not written by me , i purchased this vehicle from Motoexotica , dont know where the 9k comes from, happy to provide more details about my original purchase price , i have described this vehicle to the best of my knowledge and will be happy to answer any questions, thank you again.
Not trying to besmirch the seller, however it's worth noting the true mileage is unknown, I didn't see that mentioned in the current listing.

might be my eyes but isn't this a 2.3-16? the listing says 2.5-16. just googled the VIN and it showed the MBMarket listing saying 2.3-16 and got really confused for a sec.
@599F1 Hi , vehicle is registered under my LLC name based in Montana , vehicle has a title from Montana , since its a gray market vehicle, if it is going to stay in California it has to go through the process starting with DMV , or one can have a LLC purchased from Montana to have this vehicle registered there then can be used in California, the cost is around $1000 , if need more details please let me know , very easy process, thank you.
I noticed the license plates are from Montana. Did you recently move or is there some other reason why the plates aren't from California?
