Finished in the sought-after combination of Cassis Red Metallic paint over Burgundy leather upholstery, this Canadian-market 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet was sold new from MCL Motor Cars in Vancouver. It features a 5-speed G50 manual transaxle connected to a 3.2-liter flat-six engine, 15” Fuchs alloy wheels, a brown convertible top, heated and power-adjustable seats, upgraded SSI heat exchangers, and a Dansk muffler. The car was purchased by the seller in 2003 and underwent an engine rebuild, including new head studs, rod bearings, reground camshafts, and a timing chain replacement. A service was also performed in 2023, including valve adjustments, a new battery, spark plugs, gearbox oil, and brake fluid. Showing approximately 247k kilometers or 154k miles on the odometer, this Carrera Cabriolet is now being offered for auction by its longtime owner out of British Columbia.
The exterior is finished in the rare paint color of Cassis Red Metallic (L80D), with a manually-operated brown convertible top and a matching boot cover. Equipment includes a front valence with integrated fog lights, heated and power-adjustable mirrors, a raised periscope third brake light, a single exhaust outlet, and 15” Fuchs wheels with black-finished centers and silver outer lips. Some small dings are noted on the wheels, and the tires are due for replacement. The seller notes a few chips can be seen on the front bumper which was previously refinished under their ownership. Both doors were also refinished under the seller’s ownership. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin features Burgundy leather upholstery and matching carpets. Accessories include heated and power-adjustable front seats, a four-spoke leather steering wheel, power windows and door locks, and analog VDO instrumentation. The in-dash Blaupunkt stereo has been disconnected, and the sound system is paired with a remote-controlled Pioneer CD stereo in the trunk. The seller adds that the alarm and heated seats are inoperable, and the air conditioning components have been removed.
Rated at 217 HP and 195 lb-ft of torque, the air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine drives the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle. An engine rebuild was performed in 2003, which included reground camshafts, machining the cylinder heads, and replacing the head studs, rod bearings, timing chain, and valve guides. The brakes were also rebuilt at this time, along with replacements of the shocks, struts, and front wheel bearings. The alternator, fuel pump, and crankshaft sensors were replaced at 225k kilometers. Service in May 2023 at 243k kilometers included a new AGM battery, alternator belt, air filter, spark plugs, valve adjustments, gearbox oil, engine oil, and brake fluid flush. The exhaust has been fitted with SSI heat exchangers and a Dansk muffler, and the original components are included in the sale. The seller adds that the tailpipe emits some blue smoke on startup after the car sits undriven for an extended period, and a compression test was recently done, showing 170-175 psi across all cylinders at an altitude of 2,500 feet above sea level.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, engine & service manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a tire inflator, a car cover, a battery trickle charger, a clean title, and the original exhaust, heating, and A/C components.
The seller would like you to know: “I live in Canada and, should the car relocate south, I will trailer it to the US border with British Columbia at no cost. I have owned the car for 22 years and have had a lot of fun with it. The car is a blast to drive, especially with the top down, is very reliable, easy to work on, and I expect it will serve a new owner as well as it did me.”

I am not an expert, but from what I understand nothing has changed on cars over 25 years old. I understand there is a 2.5% duty and some forms. I hope someone with first hand knowledge knowledge might respond.
can it be imported to US also any changes on tarrifs on these cars?
Bid in the amount of $8,000
With regard to the tires, if it were me, I wouldn’t be in a big hurry to change them. If you are new to a 911, I guarantee you will be taking it through the curves at excessive speed, and you may as well run these out, then put the new set on. Just be careful on a wet road, as the shallow tread may not channel the water, but you shouldn’t drive this in the rain anyway…just my 2 bits.

@ericpascas I live in Osoyoos, so it would stay in BC.
The stereo is mounted by an aluminum bracket that we made. The bracket comes out with the stereo. The weld you see is part of the bracket. There were no holes drilled in the car, it used existing attachments.
The car would love to be driven to Osoyoos. Are you thinking to take it south? As I mentioned, I would trailer the car to the US border at no cost.
Bid in the amount of $6,750
With regards to the stereo in the smugglers box, am I seeing a weld? Or, is it bolted in? In other words, can this be reversed in order to re-install the A/C components?
Do you feel a 6 hour road trip to Osoyoos is doable? Or, would you rather it be trailered?
I vote for road trip... Thank you.
I agree it’s due for a new set of tires, that was mentioned above in the write up. I thought about replacing them before the sale, but it makes more sense for the new owner to buy what they want and get the warranty. Also, you can see how the tires wear, which you can’t with new ones.I thought this way it would be considered in the bid. Also, you mentioned 1/4 million miles, it is in Kms ( 154,000 miles).
Bid in the amount of $6,000
Even with a 1/4 of a million miles on this beauty, I would still be tempted to drive this sucker back to Los Angeles,
however with tire date codes of 08 and the uneven tire wear of picture # 70 I would need to factor in a set of new
Michelins before setting out.
GLWTS
It is soooo much fun to drive! The combination of the sound, the manual steering that gives an amazing feel, the handling …it just puts a smile on your face.
Dang the thing looks like it drives nice! 🔥
Thanks, the color seems to change with the light. It varies from a light red to more of a brown, depending on the sun.
what a combo!
The top was manual from the factory. Raising and lowering it is really easy, and there isn’t much to go wrong. When the engine was rebuilt, the clutch was measured and was close to the new spec. It must have been replaced before I got the car. Most of the miles I put on the car were holiday trips, not stop and go city driving, which is hard on everything, especially the clutch. The clutch works perfect. The G50 hasn’t been rebuilt, it also works as it should. When the transmission oil was replaced about 4000 km ago, we looked closely at the old oil. There was no sign of any metal or anything to be concerned about.
Has the convertible top always been manual? Or was it a power top and it has been converted to manual?
Has the clutch been replaced during your ownership? Do you know when it was last done? Do you know if the gearbox has ever been rebuilt? Thank you.
@TheGerman The invoices have been uploaded to the listing gallery.
I uploaded some invoices that should be posted. Let me know if you have any questions.
Could you post some records/invoices of the engine rebuild pls?

Yes, I would agree, especially when combined with the sound of the fan. Porsche struggled with duplicating the sound when they went liquid cooled. It’s a big part of the brand.
The SSI and Dansk early muffler makes a great sound. We have had that setup on our 78SC for at least 20 years.
Rare color GLWTA!
All the lights and electronics work, the only things that don’t work are the heated seats and the alarm. I thought about fixing these items, as they are both covered in the Bentley manual, but I never got around to it.
As for importing to US, I understand that nothing has changed on a car over 25 years old. My understanding is a 2.5% import tax and some forms. I would hope that someone with real knowledge might comment.
Are all lights and other electronics in good order?what is process for importing to the states? Thanks in advance.
@smsarchitects Top is manual. All the AC parts are there, compressor, condensers, expander, only missing the lines, which would probably be replaced. The original stereo has the old cassette which I never used (or tried), I know it worked with the radio. The right rear fender was repainted at some point I am guessing. There was no declaration when I bought the car, so I assume the damage was cosmetic.
Sorry, just found the pic of the ac components.
Gorgeous car. Is the top manual or power operated (ad says both)? Do you have the AC components? Does the original stereo still work if reconnected? Any signs of previous damage or bodywork besides the repainted areas mentioned in the ad? Thank you.
