Now up for auction is this 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe finished in Grand Prix White.  Debuted with the desirable G50 manual transmission for the 1987 model year, this Carrera was eventually upgraded with a 3.6L flat-six engine sourced from a Porsche 993 by its previous owner in 2016, along with the installation of an updated A/C system and Bilstein Sport shocks as well as upgraded RUF wheels, brakes, and front valence. It was then acquired by the current owner in August of 2017 who carried out further upgrades including a Patrick Motorsports front oil cooler, custom carbon fiber RS taillights and reflector bar, powder-coated wheels, a custom exhaust, and a completely reupholstered custom leather interior in Burgundy and houndstooth upholstery.  Showing just under 100k miles on the odometer, this tastefully modified and generously upgraded 911 Carrera is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Texas.

This 911 is finished in Grand Prix White and was previously fitted with a RUF front valence, an ST fiberglass rear bumper, and HID headlights.  Porsche script graphics have been added along the sides and updated 993-style aero mirrors have been installed in addition to custom carbon fiber RS taillights and a matching center reflector. Some areas around the windshield show signs of a repaint, and the seller reports that the rear decklid was refinished after an aftermarket spoiler was removed.  Some road-going wear is also noted on the front hood as well as a few chips on the driver’s door, additional images are provided in the photo gallery.  CARFAX suggests damage to have occurred to the right front end in 2003. This Carrera rides on black powder coated 17” RUF alloy wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport tires which are dated from 2015 and are said to bear approximately 8k miles of use.

Inside, the cabin has been completely redone in new custom Burgundy leather and houndstooth upholstery with deviated stitching in white.  A new OEM headliner was fitted along with a new dashboard, seats, sun visors, white instrument dials, RS door panels, and RS carpeting.  All the rubber door and window gaskets are said to have been replaced as well.  The rear seats, radio, and center console have been removed and an upgraded Wevo shifter has been installed along with an A/C system derived from a Porsche 993.  The current owner replaced the A/C compressor and updated the system to R-134a. All gauges and accessories are said to be working properly.

Under the previous ownership, this 911 was fitted with an upgraded 3.6L flat-six engine sourced from a 1995 Porsche 993 Carrera.  The rear wheels are driven through a desirable G50 5-speed manual transmission.  The engine swap is reported to have been completed in 2016 with approximately 40k miles.  The previous owner had also installed an RS clutch and flywheel, a Steve Wong performance chip, a close-ratio ring and pinion, 4-piston RUF brakes, Bilstein Sport shock absorbers, and exhaust headers (heat exchanger delete).  Since acquiring the car, the current owner has carried out further upgrades including a Patrick Motorsports front oil cooler, Elephant Racing finned oil lines, an oil cooler scoop, ceramic coated headers, and a custom high-flow exhaust system.  In 2019, the timing chain covers and gaskets were replaced along with the upper and lower valve cover gaskets.  More recently in 2021, the spark plugs, ignition wires, engine belts, and computer were replaced and a routine oil service was completed.

This sale will include a collection of records and invoices along with some assorted spare parts and a clean title. A true driver's car, this 911 offers a considerable upgrade in performance coupled with a beautifully appointed cockpit, do not miss your chance to get behind the wheel.

@WaldoBoy it will be a fun trip. You’ll put the extra oil coolers to good use. I added the Patrick Motorsports front oil cooler at the same time as the Elephant Racing finned oil lines and the temp gauge has never been to the half way mark since… even in the Texas heat.

@ScottFromIowa yes that was a good catch on their part. They noticed some rubbing marks on the rear shocks. Next visit they were able to bend the line a little more to correct the issue. It was very minor scoring but I was glad they found it and corrected it. It seems very common with these builds but I’m glad it is all sorted out.

  • ScottFromIowa (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Noticed Tech comment in Spring regarding a “crimped oil line that was rubbing on a rear shock”. Did that get corrected?

@ScottFromIowa thank you for the good questions. There are no known rust issues. In my experience with the older 911s, when you replace the windshield, sometimes you’ll find some rust around the lower corners and you’ll have to lightly sand and paint before the reinstall. I’m assuming that is what the previous owner did. The Ruf steering wheel does come with the auction. I will try to find the additional pictures and upload before the end of the auction. I’m sorry to say but I’ve never tried the cruise control on this car or any of my Porsches. I recently tried it on my Tesla and found it too slow to respond to other traffic and very aggravating to use.

    Is the Cruise Inop?
With re-paint on A-pillars has rust been repaired? Any known Rust issues/past repairs?
Does the RUF Steering wheel also come with the car? Thanks for your replies. (If you have any driving video at all or additional underbody photos showing suspension/brakes with wheels off would love to see them. (Understand you are stranded in NY, but if you have on phone or can have someone take and provide for upload?)

@Htx996t I hope that you received my private message. I just wanted to let the other bidders know that I am currently in NY. I was scheduled to fly back to Houston on Sunday to be with the ‘87 until the end of the auction. Unfortunately the hurricane canceled all flights leaving this area on Sunday and Monday. The soonest I can get back is Wednesday night after the auction ends. I don’t know if PCAR can extend the auction a day or two so I meet up with anyone that would like to see it person but I am open to anything to be as transparent as possible. It is currently being stored at my warehouse on the north side of town but I live in the Heights and my schedule is pretty flexible once I get back. In the meantime, please feel free to contact Einars garage or Modern Aircooled (both Porsche specialists ) who are familiar with my car and all of the service and maintenance done to it in the last 4 years. Any thing that didn’t sound right or even a leak was addressed immediately.

  • jbramlett (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@alessio I’m not familiar with CA smog tests on vehicles 34 years old. Here in Texas you are exempt after 25 years.

  • jbramlett (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@ScottFromIowa Thank you. this is a non-vario ram engine from a ‘95 993. The engine had 40k-ish miles at the time of install and currently has approximately 50k miles now. I just had surgery on my shoulder and was not able to drive it for a few weeks. When I started it a few weeks ago I smelled fuel so I turned it off and flat bedded it to a local Porsche specialist. The computer was malfunctioning the fuel injection system. They said it would be much easier to just replace the computer to solve the issue than to troubleshoot. I’ve had no problems since. I will post a drive video before the auction ends but it drives phenomenal. I would have no issues driving it cross country.

  • alessio (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

would this pass smog in CA, with the mods?

  • ScottFromIowa (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

This is a non-vario ram 993 Engine? Engine had 40k at swap. 10kish since swap? Reason for replacement of computer? Can you post a drive video please? Very nice G50 conversion. I will be closely watching your auction and plan to bid if “around” my number. Good luck with your sale.
