The Porsche 911 Carrera was updated for the 1987 model year with a more powerful engine and a new 5-speed G50 manual gearbox. This 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa comes finished in the traditional shade of Guards Red over a Black partial leather interior and features 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels, front and rear spoilers, and optional sport-tuned shock absorbers. Acquired by the current owner in 1998, this classic air-cooled Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida with approximately 34k miles showing on the odometer.

This 911 is finished in Guards Red and equipped with front and rear spoilers as well as an optional rear window wiper, integrated front fog lights, a removable roof panel, a black Targa roll hoop, heated power-adjustable mirrors, and polished 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels. The car rides on a set of new Continental tires mounted in November 2023. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, the Black partial leather interior features power-adjustable front seats, a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel, an aftermarket gear knob, and custom carpet floor mats with red binding and embroidered Targa logos. Other accessories include power windows, a heated rear window, cruise control, air conditioning, automatic heating control, an alarm, a quartz clock, a locking glove box, and a Blaupunkt cassette stereo. The seller notes slight signs of wear are present and all gauges and accessories remain fully functional.

An air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine sends up to 217 HP and 195 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox. Stopping power comes from fixed 2-piston brakes and ventilated discs. The car was also factory-equipped with optional sport-tuned shock absorbers. The seller adds that the car has a well-documented service history and a fresh oil change and inspection have been completed.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a spare tire, and a clean title.

@jackal0506 - I am assuming that if the valves needed to be adjusted, they were along the way or would be mentioned in the service records. In preparation for this sale, we did a basic maintenance and new tires, and everything else was good to go. I don't see the specific suspension bushings/suspension parts replaced listed in the receipts, but it could have been covered in a 30k mile service or something else like that, that I see in the service records. It shifts very nicely into every gear, and the suspension does not scream to me as being lose or blown out.

With regards to the compression/leak-down test:
A lot of factors affect the actual PSI results of a Compression Test; results are typically used as an average to look for bad cylinders, not a specific minimum PSI.

For example, if we get an average of 150 PSI on 5 Cylinders but one cylinder is 100 psi or less, that would indicate a mechanical issue with that cylinder that needs to be investigated.

Also, Its very commendable of your shop making it contingent on a healthy leak-down compression test. What compression numbers do you consider "healthy"

  • jackal0506 (registered bidder) 3 months, 1 weekago

    Hi , few questions
Have the valves been adjusted recently?
Has ant the the rubber bushings and or suspensions parts been replaced?
    Thanks

@G8tor80 - Yes, of course- all bidders! If the car meets the reserve and sells, the seller would be agreeable to making it contingent on a healthy leak-down compression test.

@Patwacokid - The CarFax starts at picture 137, and the service records, which there are pictures of in the gallery, show the dates and miles recorded over the years as well.

@jjmonte - Those pictures you requested have been added to the end of the gallery of the number on the engine and some seat and footwell pictures. Wear is, I would say, consistent with a car that has been driven and has 34k miles on it, and is original. Sure, you can have a leather guy come in and dye this or repair it, and we are happy to help get that done after the sale, but we felt it best to present the car in its original unaltered condition and not fake it. What many people see online on these older cars with low miles are seats that have been dyed and repaired.

@racingredsc - As mentioned earlier in the comments, the owner thought that it was unnecessary due to the car's low mileage and how well-serviced and thoroughly serviced the car is. I would say that if you have doubts, bid with confidence, and we can make the sale contingent on a healthy compression/leak-down test if you have any reservations. Yes, the AC works and blows cold. I don't think there's any reason to worry, but I know it's probably tough to take the seller's word. Just know we have an excellent reputation with what we sell and with our business in general!

Let me know if you have any other questions or need more pictures!

  • racingredsc (registered bidder) 3 months, 1 weekago

Why no compression or leak down test? It looks like the valve covers have been off or replaced. How are the valves and head studs? This car has been in New York all it's life? A/C works? I'd like to drive it back to SC. Any reason to worry? Need lots more belly pictures I think.

  • jjmonte (registered bidder) 3 months, 1 weekago

Hello. Perhaps I’m missing it but don’t see an engine number (through engine bay) or VIN on transmission (in undercarriage pics).

There appears to be significant wear (for a 34k mile car) on driver’s seat bolster, footwell and steering wheel. Pics? As asked by others, mileage is in question as there has been work done on the speedometer/odometer. Would you comment?

    Lastly, status of a/c?

  • jjmonte (registered bidder) 3 months, 1 weekago

Hello. Seeing lots of additional numbers but not an engine number (through engine bay) or VIN on transmission (in undercarriage pics). Cannot match car to engine without them.

No photos of wear. There appears to be significant wear (for a 34k mile car) including driver’s seat bolster, footwell, steering wheel besides undercarriage. As asked by others, mileage is in question as there has been work done on the speedometer/odometer. Would you comment on that repair?

Yes, driver’s seat, , steering wheel and footwell. Any exterior wear you know of. Thank you.

  • K2Motorcars (seller) 3 months, 1 weekago

@Bidders - Undercarriage pictures have been sent to PCAR to be uploaded, along with pictures of the engine numbers.

  • K2Motorcars (seller) 3 months, 1 weekago

@jjmonte - I am taking the car over to the Mechanics shop in a bit. I will see about getting the photo of the engine number.

Are there any specific pictures of the interior/exterior you're looking for?

  • jjmonte (registered bidder) 3 months, 1 weekago

Thank you. At speed, the Targa top will balloon if the material is not tacked down properly. A photo of the engine number is needed. Detailed pics of int/ext wear would be appreciated.

Good morning! Please note that all additional photos have been added to the gallery, as well as all the service records with dates and mileage noted. There are also some photos I posted showing the condition of the target top of the area in question, showing that it's just the trim/edge of the top material that is turned up. I believe it can probably be fixed with a professional who knows what he's doing with a heat gun. My guess is it was stored upright, which turned that fabric edge up a bit at one point in time.

I am having the car brought over to my mechanic's shop this evening for the undercarriage photos. If there are any other specific photos you would like of the underside while it's there, please let me know. I think that should address all of the questions so far.

@Bidders and @jjmonte - I uploaded a bunch of photos to the PCar Cloud for them to post. I will have them post the CarFax report as well.

I will post now the sticker under the hood, under the wing, and some of the top if I can.

I will do my best to get the undercarriage photos taken tomorrow, too.

Let me know if anyone needs anything else in the meantime.

Thank you for the follow up.

  • K2Motorcars (seller) 3 months, 1 weekago

@jjmonte - I’ll post the photos shortly when I get back to my computer. Was working an event this morning. All the service records with miles noted on them were supplied to PCARMarket. I believe they uploaded them all. I’ll have them double check. The mileage is indeed correct and documented as shown on CarFax and in the service records. The targa top is not bent but the seam is turned up on the top probably from when the top was stored off of the car. From what I was told on the Carrera tail, dealers installed them before delivery. I will see if my mechanic can take some undercarriage pictures tomorrow.

    I’ll post pics later today.

@PCARMarket - can you please post the CARFAX?

    -W

  • jjmonte (registered bidder) 3 months, 1 weekago

Targa top appears bent and not flush. Apparently no leaks but will cause substantial wind noise. Do you have detailed pics? Still no pics of interior and exterior wear or undercarriage (on BAT).
Carrera badge on engine cover is missing. Options code for Carrera tail? Not factory? Is this a later addition?

  • Ph2426 (registered bidder) 3 months, 1 weekago

Are these 33k documented miles? Are there service records to show the mileage is real and correct?

  • Patwacokid (registered bidder) 3 months, 1 weekago

Has the odometer been rolled back numbers don’t line up that is usually what on older models. Do you have a carfax and maintenance records?

@aircooledguyks - it was quoted in the invoice, but the owner declined to do it.

  • aircooledguyks (registered bidder) 3 months, 2 weeksago

@K2Motorcars thank you for the response. Agreed, seals are an option. Was curious on the compression test since it was mentioned the invoice.

  • A0MART18 (registered bidder) 3 months, 2 weeksago

For reference, this car was listed on BAT last month, did not meet reserve at 68K. Bubble is bursting.

  • A0MART18 3 months, 2 weeksago

Bid in the amount of $10,250

  • K2Motorcars (seller) 3 months, 2 weeksago

@aircooledguyks - Yes, the top seals are original. They do seal the top properly, but from an aesthetic standpoint, you could replace them if you feel it is necessary. Abaco did not do a compression test. The owner thought that it was not necessary due to the low mileage of the car and how well serviced and thoroughly serviced the car is.

  • aircooledguyks (registered bidder) 3 months, 2 weeksago

@K2Motorcars looks like a real unicorn, gorgeous Targa. Might need some new Targa top seals, thoughts? Did Abaco Automotive provide you with the compression test readings? Any pictures of the underside?
