Now available for auction is this 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa finished in Guards Red over a black interior. The 1987 model year saw important changes for the Carrera model, most notably the introduction of the 5-speed G50 manual gearbox. This Carrera Targa had spent much of its life in Connecticut where it was cared for by two prior owners before joining the seller’s collection about two and a half years ago. The car is said to have been painstakingly maintained under the last owner’s care from 1993-2018. Showing approximately 79k miles on the odometer, this classic air-cooled Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Massachusetts.
This 911 comes finished in Guards Red with a removable black roof panel and matching Targa band. The seller notes that the rear decklid was previously damaged and replaced with both rear quarter panels refinished and blended to match, additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. The factory 15” Fuchs alloy wheels come dressed in a set of new Hankook Ventus RS4 tires.
Inside, the black interior is described to have been very well preserved with all gauges and accessories functioning properly. Cruise control was equipped from the factory and an upgraded Sony head unit has been installed along with an upgraded Kuehl R134a A/C compressor. The factory specifications label on the underside of the hood reads the following options:
This 1987 Carrera is equipped with an air-cooled 3.2L flat-six engine that sends as much as 217 HP and 195 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed G50 manual transmission. Optional Sport Shock Absorbers were equipped from the factory and the ignition system has been upgraded with a set of Magnecor spark plug cables. The 1987 Carrera also benefits from the thicker stabilizer and torsion bars introduced the model year prior. The seller states that the previous owner had carried out much of the service by themselves, therefore limited records are available.
This sale will include owner’s manuals and a clean title. Sporting some of the most iconic features of the air-cooled era, this 1987 Carrera is a great choice for any enthusiast in search of a classic 911 Targa.

@ntrumble2021 from my understanding head studs are an SC issue, not Carrera. I could be wrong.
@ntrumble2021 studs have not been replaced no need. AC works Targa seals good.

@TMC, do you have quick answers for:
have the head studs been replaced?
Did the 3 engine compartment fuel lines get replaced?
Does the AC work?
Have the targa seals been replaced?
@TyStav we have not. But the winning bidder can have one preformed. We stand behind our sales :)
Has a leak down test been completed on the cylinders?

We're the deliver head studs replaced? Did the 3 engine compartment fuel lines get replaced? Do you have the compression numbers or leak down test numbers? Does the AC work? Have the many targa seals been replaced?
@Delmenhorst pleased to answer any and all questions.
@TyStav we did confirm the leak. It appears to be coming from the valve cover gasket (drivers side). This will be addressed before the new owner takes delivery.

I don’t see a big effort on the part of the Dealer to answer simple questions, wondering how anxious they are to sell the car?

@rreasen other than what was stated all the paint is factory original. The underside has been steamed cleaned so your just seeing a very very clean example. I'll get it back on the lift today and add the additional photos.
Also, the underneath pictures provided would seem to suggest the car was repainted at some point. Do you have any details or phots of the rear accident mentioned? New deck lid is stated yet over spray is consistent down the entire passenger side??
@TMC can you submit under body photos with close ups of the valve covers
@rreasen I'll have our service shop look into it and confirm.
In the video the car appears to be pooling oil underneath. How bad is the leak? What is the source?
Bid in the amount of $15,000
@Lafiftyr the owner wanted the deck lid replaced instead of repaired and blended the quarter panels for a proper match. The craftsmanship was excellent.
Can you please give more detail to the “deck -lid “ damage and were the deck-lid and quarter panels all replaced or just refinished and blended to match.
Thanks
