Incorporating a forced-induction engine design proven at the track on Porsche's racing cars, the Porsche 930 has become one of the most iconic air-cooled Porsches of all time. Factory-optioned with a sunroof and Sport Seats, this 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo comes finished in Guards Red over Linen leather upholstery. It has been upgraded with a FabSpeed stainless steel exhaust system, sport headers, an upgraded K27 turbocharger, a long-neck intercooler, silicone boost hoses, and much more. Showing less than 38k miles on the odometer, this nicely upgraded example is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Tennessee.

The Guards Red finished bodywork presents wide fenders, a distinctive “tea tray” spoiler, and classic 16” Fuchs wheels dressed in Pirelli P Zero Rosso tires from 2017. Other equipment includes a front valence with a chin spoiler and integrated fog lights, a rear window wiper, periscope-style third brake light, and U.S. market bumperettes. The seller notes areas of paintwork on the hood and left rear quarter, and the CARFAX report shows damage in May 2003 and cosmetic damage in July 2008. Additional images are provided in the gallery.

The driver is situated within a Linen leather interior, featuring optional Sport Seats and an electric sunroof. The cabin has been modified with a MOMO steering wheel, a Wevo shifter installed in March 2020, and an aftermarket radio. The seller adds that the original steering wheel and shifter will accompany the sale. The seller reports all gauges and accessories are working properly.

The turbocharged and intercooled 3.3-liter flat-six engine produces as much as 282 HP and 289 lb.-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. Modifications include a Fabspeed stainless steel exhaust installed by Porsche of Nashville in January 2014 including Sport headers, a K27 turbo, a long-neck intercooler, silicone boost hoses, and a muffler bypass. The wastegate muffler has been removed in favor of a free-flowing pipe and the primary muffler has been replaced with a Fabspeed “Zork Tube” center-exit dump pipe. Porsche of Nashville also carried out an engine-out reseal in November 2013, replacements to the transmission synchros in March 2015, and a True Frame Report in October 2017 at 35,494 miles.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: "Thanks for your interest. This car was previously owned by a Porsche collector with an extensive collection. It is an outstanding car and runs fantastically. It has beautiful paint and an interior with no known needs. The original steering wheel, shifter, and Fabspeed muffler with exhaust tip are included with the sale. These can be reinstalled if requested by the buyer. I also welcome post-sale inspections."

Last day to bid on this incredible 87’ 930! THE quintessential 80’s hot rod..! I’ll be checking messages throughout the day. I’ll try to answer last minute questions as quickly as possible. Thanks to all for your thoughtful comments and questions. The PCM community is a refreshing change as compared to that other auction site. :) Good luck today and thanks for bidding!!!

I own an ‘87 930 serial # 50063 in the same color with original paint, 31k on it. This car looks outstanding even with the touch ups. I approve of the shifter, steering wheel and the performance enhancements. I probably would go a different route with the exhaust but, hey that’s why they offer a wide variety of aftermarket exhaust’s. This car is going to make someone very happy.

  • Ruf1 (seller) 10 months, 1 weekago

@xios3, Thanks for your question. This car really is collector grade. It placed 2nd overall in in a recent PCA Musik Stadt Region car show, only being marked off for originality. The paint looks factory new. The only imperfections were previously refinished. These were previously noted as the the hood refinish and driver qtr. The paint work is excellent.

  • xios3 (registered bidder) 10 months, 1 weekago

Can you tell me if there’s any imperfections scratches or rock chips in the paint? Thank you.

@Avsfan, Unfortunately, I do not have the original catalytic converters / heat exchangers.

  • Avsfan 10 months, 1 weekago

Any chance the original heat exchangers and cat converter are in your possession? Where I live the car would need to pass an emissions test.

  • Ruf1 (seller) 10 months, 1 weekago

@911S, The dash is original. It is in excellent condition, free of any cracks, sun damage or repairs.

  • 911S 10 months, 1 weekago

Is there a dash cover overlay on top of the orig dash?

  • PCARMARKET_MODERATOR 10 months, 1 weekago

@markiemark The interior color is Linen (QA) per the factory build sticker. The listing has been updated accordingly.

  • Silver930 (registered bidder) 10 months, 1 weekago

@markiemark that looks very tan to me in photos satin is not even close to this color I have seen a satin interior car and it sparkles like a pearl white.

  • Silver930 (registered bidder) 10 months, 1 weekago

One interesting and cool point many 1987 930s had the odd periscope 3rd brake light and around May June build date they had the nice one up in back window like this 930. To me so much cleaner looking with it not sticking out of the whale tail. Porsche should only have done that on the Cabs.

  • markiemark (registered bidder) 10 months, 1 weekago

Hi in your description it’s say there’s an tan interior but lookin at pics it’s looks like a satin white can u please clarify or is that a typo? ( Tan)

Hello, please forgive me. I was trying to bid $60K on the 930. I inadvertently added an extra zero...

Please disregard my bid of $600K, actual bid should be $60K. I'm sorry!

@911S, Thank you for your question. The OG Glasurit 21 Single stage paint is no longer available so we chose base coat / clear coat for the hood refinish. The color / finish is spot on.

  • 911S 10 months, 2 weeksago

@Ruf1 You mentioned " clear coat " when describing paint correction. The factory paint was single stage and no clear coat. Why was clear applied?

  • Ruf1 (seller) 10 months, 2 weeksago

    @TangerineT,
Thank you for your question. We did not receive the OEM Intercooler when we purchased the car from Porsche Nashville. I have access to one if needed, they’re not crazy expensive. The damage to the car happened before we purchased it. Porsche of Nashville had a Trueframe (true360.com) report run on the car before we purchased. The results of that report can be accessed in the details on the Carfax. Additionally, we were told by the Porsche dealer that it was a very minor rub to the qtr panel requiring paint refinishing but no structural damage. The paintwork is outstanding! No evidence of paintwork without the aid of a paint meter. Additionally, there is no evidence of any paint work in the rear of the car. Lastly, the hood was refinished while in my possession due to a couple of nuisance rock chips that couldn’t be touched up without looking touched up. This paintwork is also outstanding. Overall the paint is fantastic all over this car. Clear coat perfect! Very smooth, free of swirl marks, spider webbing, fading, scratches, dents or dings. Excellent.

  • TangerineT (registered bidder) 10 months, 2 weeksago

@Ruf1 Do you still jabe the original intercooler? Can you please explain the nature and extent of the two damage incidents?

  • Ruf1 (seller) 10 months, 2 weeksago

@markiemark, Thanks for your question / comment. I have history with this car going back to 2018 when one of my clients purchased from the franchise Porsche dealer in Nashville. He is a Porsche fanatic who only purchases top notch cars. This car is a fantastic example of a late 80’s 930. There are no known needs and It runs amazing! The engine is dry, void of any of the common oil leaks. It can sit for months, then start without any smoke. The battery stays hot as well. The transmission shifts smoothly with the Wevo shifter, the oem shifter shifts great, too. Just a personal preference, both are included with the sale. Recent transmission synchro replacement records included as well. Downshifts are demonstrated in the driving video. I have not done compression / leak down testing. I can attest to this car being incredibly strong for a 80’s turbo Porsche and it sounds amazing. I have driven with and without the “Zork Tube”, it has a very aggressive tone installed with lots of pop / crackle. With the Fabspeed muffler installed it has a very deep tone and the pop / crackle is greatly reduced. I don’t mind installing either option for the winning bidder. All spares come with the car. As my opening comment suggest, I am agreeable to the winning bidder ordering a post sale inspection in Nashville before money changes hands. Bid without fear, this car IS fantastic!
