We are pleased to present this rare 1987 Porsche 930 SE Slant-Nose finished in Guards Red over a Champagne "Special Leather" interior.  Said to have been originally purchased by a U.S. servicemember stationed in Germany, this Turbo was ordered through Porsche’s Sonderwunsche (Special Wishes) program with a factory power kit, the iconic Slant-Nose configuration, and a bespoke interior with custom Sport Seats and burlwood trim.  As a Special Wishes car, this 930SE lacks the “M505” option code for the Slant-Nose as it was pulled aside from the production line to undergo custom modifications at Werk 1.  This Turbo was eventually brought back to the United States where it was purchased by the seller in Florida in June of 2018.  It has been regularly serviced ever since and has participated in various concours events including two DRT shows where it won awards for Best of Class as well as Best of Show.  Highlighting incredibly unique Special Wishes options and period-correct 3-piece BBS wheels, this 930 SE is now being offered for auction with approximately 46k-miles showing on the odometer accompanied by the original owner’s manuals, Special Wishes literature, and official correspondence with Porsche confirming the authenticity of the vehicle.

This Turbo is finished in the traditional shade of Guards Red, and the only noted imperfections are some minor signs of road-going wear on the nose and rear fenders.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.  The handbuilt Slant-Nose configuration includes a redesigned front valence, flat vented front fenders, pop-up headlights, boxed rocker panels, and distinctive rear fender air intakes.  Other exterior highlights include European side marker lights, special quad exhaust tips, and 16” 3-piece BBS RS wheels which were reportedly available as an option through the Special Wishes program.  These wheels are date-stamped from 1986 and are currently dressed in Goodyear Eagle F1 tires.

Inside, the cabin is appointed with Champagne "Special Leather", burlwood veneers, and heated/power Sport Seats with custom piping.  Other unique details include a “Type-F” 3-spoke steering wheel, a burlwood shift knob, a custom center console with additional gauges, storage pockets under the dashboard, a coin tray in the driver's door panel, and a 935-style HK LED boost gauge.  The original Sony radio and slimline EQ and have been retained, although the radio is currently disconnected.  A breakdown of the factory specifications on the original build sticker is provided below:

  • 058 Impact absorbers front and rear
  • 139 Seat heating, left
  • 220 Locking differential 40%
  • 340 Seat heating, right
  • 387 Sports seat, right, electrical height adjustment
  • 383 Sports seat, left, electrical height adjustment
  • 528 Passenger side mirror (electrically heatable, and adjustable)
  • 533 Alarm
  • 567 Top-tinted windscreen
  • 650 Sunroof

The air-cooled 3.3L turbocharged flat-six engine is paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox and factory optioned limited-slip differential.  This 930 SE is also said to have been equipped with a factory power kit which raises the output to 330 HP through the use of a larger intercooler, higher-lift cams, a revised exhaust system, and increased boost pressure.  Regular oil services have been carried out by the current owner and there are no outstanding maintenance items reported.

This sale will include the original owner’s manuals, toolkit, official Special Wishes literature, concours awards, and email correspondence from a Porsche representative confirming the car’s authenticity.  Likely a one-of-a-kind configuration, this incredibly unique 930 SE offers a very special opportunity for any air-cooled Porsche collector.

These cars are uber rare! I don't know of any others for sale right now, and have only seen one other sell in the last two years. If you're interested, BID! it could be a long time until another one hits the market.

I'll be around to answer questions as the auction winds down.

I've owned a documented 1984 Euro 930 Special Wishes Slantnose for a number of years now. These are very special cars and always draw comments. My example is Guards Red with Cork sports seats etc. It is driven regularly and now has over 100k miles. My last long road trip was to Boca for the 2019 Porsche Parade....a 2200 mile RT. These cars so so well built and robust and a real joy to own. I hope this example goes to an owner that will drive it and enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed mine.

The special wishes slant nose cars were made from 1981-1986 and could only be ordered at the factory as a ROW car - from 87 on the slant nose was made available as an option trough US dealers as a 505 car (there are some differences between them and the 505 cars).

    This is a nice piece...

@abacpm - Porsche started offering the Slantnose as a option (code 505) in mid-1987. Anyone who wanted one before then had to have it custom made via Werks1. This is one of those custom made cars, and is authenticated thru Porsche Classic.

  • abacpm (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

I own a Slant nose with a 505 code on the underside of the bonnet...... I understand that 1986 was the first year Porsche manufactured the Slantnose entirely in the factory and thus stopped sending the conversions to the Special Wishes program ..... with COA I would be wary of cars not well documented

@YP13 - I'll do the cold start tomorrow. Keep in mind, 930's are not the smoothest when cold. They need to warm up for a minute.

No promises on the driving video. It takes two people to do it, and I'm a man show. I will say that the car drives great.

  • YP13 (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Any chance you can post videos of a cold start and a drive taking it through the gears? Thanks

@dino70089 the left and right seat option codes are different one code is for Left / driver seat and other code is for the passenger side / right. You could order a Porsche with one or the other. I have seen a few with just Sport seat for driver and many Cup cars are optioned like that. This particular 930 has Sport seats Left and right. Hope that helps the confusion.
This is a really amazing 930. I have a set of BBS wheels like this and they alone are very special. Mine are 8 x 16 front and 10 x 16 rear.

  • 930flachbau 2 years, 11 monthsago

Great car! I own an '85 Sonderwunsch Flachbau (owned since '98) and your vehicle appears to be the genuine article. Furthermore, this particular vehicle appears to be a '87 version of the Porsche 930SE offered in the U.K. in '86. I had worked with the Great Britain Porsche Club some years ago putting together information on the SE's and the Sonderwunsch Flachbau's here in the U.S. The SE's came with the "powerpack" package on your vehicle along with the visual queues of the split exhaust, BBS wheels. The cams in the 330HP engine are 911SC variants modified to drive the turbocharger sump pump. The turbocharger is a departure from the standard KKK 3LDZ and was upgraded to a KKK 7006.
Good luck in your sale. It is truly a very unique vehicle.

  • 82turboruf (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

In David Vivian book "Porsche 911" 1995 he states the SE stands for Special Equipment" FYI
There are pics of a coupe and cab, but the coupe pic is in black & white. The cab is a medium blue over white/linen?

@dino70089 - We forgot to include; 383 - Sports seat, left, electrical height adjustment

  • Bill930P (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@dino70089 - There was a modern radio in it when I got it. I wanted the car to be as authentic as possible, so I put the original one back in. Wiring it up requires some disassembly of the dash and center console. It isn't worth the risk to me.

  • dino70089 (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

And why would the radio be disconnected?

  • dino70089 (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

    I'm a bit confused...
387 Sports seat, right, electrical height adjustment

Isn't the driver seat the same type?

  • Bill930P (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@Cpparkcity - I do have partial ownership history. The car is very well maintained. I've done all the services myself during my ownership.

  • Cpparkcity (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Any records of ownership chain? Service history? Recent service and Leak down numbers?
