Introduced in the 1987 model year, the 928 S4 marked a significant evolution for Porsche's grand tourer, featuring enhanced aerodynamics and a fresh 5.0-liter V8 engine with four valves per cylinder. This inaugural year example is finished in Grand Prix White over a Marine Blue partial leather interior and features protective side moldings, a sunroof, increased air conditioning, the HiFi Sound Package, and more. It is reported to have been acquired by the seller in 2021 from the previous owner of 13 years. Accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this S4 is now being offered for auction at no reserve by its seller out of Massachusetts while showing approximately 156k miles on the odometer.

The S4 version of Porsche’s 928 received new flush-mounted taillight assemblies and a more aerodynamic rounded nose as well as smoother rocker panels and a raised black polyurethane rear spoiler. This example is finished in Grand Prix White and features protective side moldings along with 17” 993 Turbo-look wheels with colored Porsche crest center caps and tires from 2021. The seller notes the front and rear bumpers were refinished under their ownership due to rock chips. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin presents blue partial leather upholstery and features a power-operated sunroof, increased (rear seat) air conditioning, the Hifi Sound Package, an amplifier system, and a steering wheel with raised hub. Other accessories include power-adjustable front seats with driver position memory, power windows and mirrors, a digital clock, automatic climate control, cruise control, and a locking glovebox. The seller adds that a dashboard cover and trim replacements have been fitted along with an aftermarket stereo and shifter. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be in working order although the brake sensor warning is currently on.

The 928 S4 features a 5.0-liter V8 with dual overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. Up to 320 HP and 317 lb.-ft of torque are sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transaxle. The seller reports items replaced throughout their ownership have included belts, an air cleaner, a steering rack, suspension bushings, and spark plugs. Service records dating back to the 1990s are said to accompany the sale. The seller notes that the timing belt and water pump were replaced at 155k miles.

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a spare tire, an air pump, sales literature, and a collection of extra parts.

The seller would like you to know: “This is a great car that is ready to be enjoyed!”

@Samster1 I tested the AC today and it blows cold.

@IndyFan911 I uploaded a driving video I did today. Hopefully @PCM will have it uploaded asap. I also uploaded a pic of the 2 keys I have.

@Cailas I forgot to take note of the odometer but now you have me worried the gears are stripped and it’s not moving. That said, the mileage is accurate bc if that did happen somehow it would have been only in the last 2 weeks. I learned a lot here: https://www.odometergears.com/howto/Porsche_928_Odometer_Gear_Replacement.pdf

  • Revenant (seller) 1 month, 1 weekago

@Samster1 The AC worked well last summer. I haven’t put it to use lately given it’s been in winter storage but it should be good.

@Cailas I reset I while I was detailing it. The odometer works as it should. This is corroborated by the Carfax available in the gallery. I will try to get a video done before the auction ends but am out of town this weekend on a family ski trip.

  • Cailas 1 month, 2 weeksago

Revenant, is the odometer actually working? When I see an odometer with the trip meter reset to 0000, makes me wonder if the odometer is broken. It is always the case that drivers reset the trip meter as he/she pulls out of a gas station and destroys the poor quality odometer gears.... If you drive it a bit and get the trip meter to move from 000, it will show that the odometer works and the 155K are "actual" miles.

@Indyfan911 Regarding pic 97 I saw that when I was taking these and it doesn’t appear to be doing anything. My guess is it was put on when some work was being done recently to protect things.
As for the exhaust it’s easy to swap back and the stock muffler will be included. I don’t know the brand of the aftermarket exhaust as it was put on by the last owner. The receipt might be somewhere in the gallery. The car sounds great in person.
I will try hard to get a driving video up before the auction is over but am away this weekend in VT so it’ll be tight. That’s been on my list to add but the weather hasn’t cooperated with when I’ve been available to do it! It drives great and has had a ton of work done recently.

  • Indyfan911 (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Sorry, keep thinking of questions. Would you be able to upload a driving video? Perhaps in town, and hwy driving. Thanks

  • Indyfan911 (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Also, what aftermarket exhaust system in on it? Can it be returned to stock configuration with the muffler that is shown in the pics?

  • Indyfan911 (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

In picture #97 there is what appears to be a blue towel zip tied to some lines. Do you know what that is?

  • Revenant (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@Indyfan911 The tires are new, maybe about 100 miles on them. I definitely think it’d be good for a long highway ride. That’s what it was designed for!

@ekaltenbach I’ve uploaded the requested pics!

  • Indyfan911 (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

How are the tires? Would the car be up for a long drive to Texas?

  • Revenant (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@RhodyRanger Sounds good! Send me a PM through the contact seller link above and we can work to coordinate.

  • RhodyRanger 1 month, 2 weeksago

Milton, MA is local to me, can we arrange a time to come and see the car? I am going to up near Milton on Sunday 3/17.

  • Revenant (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@ekltenbach Yes, there are some dash cracks. I assume that’s why the last owner opted for the cover. Which I feel has a very “period correct” look. I will try to get a picture underneath in the next few days. Of note, I priced recovering the dash with Classic 9 Leather Shop at around $1100 but never got around to it and the dash cover grew on me. https://www.classic9leathershop.com/928-dashboard-cover

  • ekaltenbach 1 month, 2 weeksago

The dashboard is covered. How badly is it cracked? I would be interested in some pictures of the dash without the cover.

  • Revenant (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

+new tires, plugs, belts and oil changes

Considerable work done by previous 13 year owner can be seen in gallery.

Car comes with original exhaust, mats, spare tire, shifter and some other small parts.

  • Revenant (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago
