In most cases, the definition of a well-cared for car could be subjective.  There is no dispute however, when it comes to this 1987 928 S4. The seller purchased the car from its original owner over 21 years ago and has been pampered ever since.  He enjoyed the car by visiting local PCA events and taking the car on short weekend drives.

The color combination of classic black over a black leather interior is stunning and other than some minor rock chips/scratches is in very nice condition. All body panels are original and have numbers matching VIN tags.  The trim and rubber are in exceptional condition due to the fact that the car has been consistently maintained and garaged.  There is a cracked fog light lens and the tires are said to have good tread life left.

The black leather interior is well preserved and has below average wear for its age.  A hard to find original Blaupunkt Reno radio is present along with Electric Vertical Adjustable Sport Seats, Anti-Theft Device, and Electric Sliding Roof.

Standard and optional equipment on the 928 include; Locking differential, 928 type designation on Rear, side protection moldings, additional amplifier, cargo net and cover. A few upgrades have been made including: cross-drilled front brake discs, short shifter kit, improved Porken timing belt tensioner and primary muffler bypass.

Power comes from a 5.4L V8 engine that produces 320HP and features the desirable 5 speed manual transmission. The odometer currently reads 125k miles (200k kms) and is substantiated by maintenance and smog records.

As you would expect form such a discerning owner, all service records are present for work performed on the car while under the seller’s ownership. Including:

  • Recent compression test
  • Major service
  • Water pump, timing belt, drive belts
  • Power steering reservoir & hoses
  • Front wheel well inner splash panels
  • Rear hatch release insert
  • Vacuum system inspection/repair
  • New battery
  • Hatch/hood gas struts
  • Under hood liner
  • Synthetic fluid change

Prior major maintenance included axle CV boots, top end hose & gasket intake refresh, new windshield, new ignition cables, new radiator, LH ECU repair, PS seals, motor mounts, HVAC system rebuild, and a new clutch.  A full-service history is available, including an electronic parts log and photographs of the work while in progress, rendering this car in excellent mechanical and electrical condition. ? All this 928 needs is a new owner to get behind the wheel and enjoy!

The car is being offered with a clear title, clean Carfax, full factory tool kit, spare wheel with compressor and jack.

As the Ontario owner of this car I can tell you that Alex was the best person to pass the car on to. He maintained and drove it exactly as I would have.

@ahusick Haven't seen Compression Test pdf on site yet, am trying to paste it here.
Cannot do, form contains hand written entries, so I'll summarize if that's acceptable until the form becomes available.
    PSI ranges for #1 to # 8, are 178, 190, 185, 189, 190, 190, 185 and 190 (respectively).

  • ahusick (seller) 5 yearsago

@LongwoodCharger Yes both WP & TP together, Gates and Laso from 9282Rus.
Powder coast was 3 years ago, still looks brand new.....glad you like the color, it's called Sivler Vein, yellow and red lettering painted for a nice highlight.

Reply to following message fromHoi Lee

Love your car and interested if you can email me the compressor results along with recent major services done by you and Colin. Please email to: ***@***.*** thanks-Hoi

    - Hoi Lee

Cannot reply to your email due to blanking by web site, have posted compression tests on site today. Most recent service details in my service history log and spread sheet all of which come with car to highest bidder. Most recent work by Colin was CV joints and annual inpection for work needed. More recent was work mentioned in write up, e.g. TB/WP, numberous hoses for PS and Cooling, new coolant reservoir and PS reservoir, etc.

Have to go out for an hour, let me know what else you would like to know.

    Thanks.

  • ahusick (seller) 5 yearsago

@LongwoodCharger Sorry for delays, assume we are coping with time zone differences.
Just going out, for an hour, here's a short answer, more later if you wish.

Porkensioner was installed at the previous timing belt change (mileage I"ll have to look it up) and this time it was inspected/reused. The belt used was a Gates (I can check the parts invoice to quote the P/N if you wish) and the WP was a Laso. The TB/WP kit was sourced from Roger Tyson at 928sRus.
Thansk for taking the time to ask these question, let me know what else you need to know.

  • ahusick (seller) 5 yearsago

@LongwoodCharger Yes easy to remove with a bit of heat.

Are those stickers easily removable from the rear bumper and front fenders?

  • LongwoodCharger (registered bidder) 5 yearsago

Beautiful car. Regarding the wp/tb service done 1/2019 ar 125k miles, was the Porkensioner done at the same time? Can you specific what belt (gates vs conti) or wp (laso or Porsche) were used? How long since the powder coating intakes done? Love the choice of intake colors. thanks

  • PCARMARKET 5 yearsago

@ahusick please send us the pics and we will gladly post them on the listing

@Cosmo This is a driver's car and I have enjoyed doing so with it regularly for 21 years.
I'm forced to use it less and less due to health reasons. It's got lots to offer, so it's time for the next generation to take over.

  • Cosmo (registered bidder) 5 yearsago

Thank you for your extensive photos. If it is not personal... might I ask why you have chosen to part with this car?

  • ahusick (seller) 5 yearsago

While on the topic of EPA stickers, I mentioned earlier that Customs & Border Protection advised me that the EPA isn't concerned with a 31 year old car.
However CA buyers may have a different criteria.
By way of further clarification, the air pump is included with the sale of the car but is currently disabled since it was surplus to the local clean air regulations.
The sticker will say the car is 1987 compliant...assuming all the original equipment in in place and operational.
Again I want to be transparent on this so that it is not a problem for a CA buyer.

  • ahusick (seller) 5 yearsago

I have pictures of the EPA and VIN stickers available.
It's my understanding the the US and Canadian cars have the same stickers, the Canadian Car has an additional small sticker stating Canada Transport.
Let me know if I can assist with any other questions or requests for information.

  • ahusick (seller) 5 yearsago

@joegrease I can confirm that the EPA stickers that you refer to are both under the hood AND on the door jamb. Can send pictures directly to you but need your contact details, not sure how to do it on this site. Can it be pasted into this comment box?
I understood from one broker that a car 31 years old is not an EPA concern.

Also had another question about A/C and it does blow cold.

  • joegrease (registered bidder) 5 yearsago

Great car! @ahusick, does the car have an US EPA sticker under the hood? (Not sure if Canadian/US spec cars automatically received this.) Can you provide a picture if yes? Also, a pic of the VIN sticker in the driver's door jam. I sent you a PM...if sending pics via that route is easier. Thanks.

@LongRunner Thank you for your positive comments and inquiry regarding the maintenance. I completed the TB/WP service in January of this year at 125,206 mileage. This service was performed by myself in conjunction with a local 928 owner/licensed technician. The parts were sourced from Roger Tyson (928sRus). I have had other repairs completed over my years of ownership by another local 928 specialist (Colin Jensan AKA Jensan Racing/Lizard928) and can supply copies of invoices if requested. All accumulated service history will be supplied with the car to the winning bidder.

These 928's like to be driven and run better with constant use while being maintained. I would rather buy one with this mileage that has been maintained thru its life time then a low mile example that has been sitting with little maintenance. Did you do all the service your self or do you have Shop service records? If so posting the service records would greatly improve a better result as far as the bidding. When and what mileage did you do the TB/WP service? This one is just being broken in and looks stellar, wish I had room for it,Ild love a manual S4 to compliment my 1978 manual. GLWS!

Today we updated the listing with the newly sized photos (now 1920 px) so pictures are larger with more detail. Hope this helps everyone scrutinizing the details. Thanks, any questions are welcome.

  • JNasty (registered bidder) 5 yearsago

    @ahusick - perfect, thanks.

  • ahusick (seller) 5 yearsago

@JNasty We anticipated concerns about the dash so we included several photos. Counting from the first, #28 is a long view from drivers door, #34 a wide view from the hatch, #49 shows 3 vents with minor left to right cracks between two of the vents, # 50 & 80 show close ups of the minor cracks, # 52 & 53 are the glove box open and shut. No cracks, also if you view the video and pause it you get another view of the dash. We tried an outside shot down into the windshield but there was too much glare.
If there is a way to send you more pictures I'll do so, and have the photographer get back in there. So let us know which of the above pictures or areas you want to get closer to.
I assure you this dash is original and there are no hidden left/right or up/down cracks.
Any other areas of interest in the car to answer so that you can make a bid?
The car is available for inspection if you are able to travel here.
    Cheers.

  • JNasty (registered bidder) 5 yearsago

@ahusick - only "horizontal" (between the vents?)? Not running "down" at all? Can you look at the corners of the glove box at the top? That is the next place - sadly I know - the appear? Thanks.

  • ahusick (seller) 5 yearsago

@JNasty The pod is clean, the vents have minute cracks between the vent outlest. We've included a couple of photos which show the minor cracks, hope you can see them. Knew this was a concern with many cars so wanted to do full disclosure on what we have which is minor. Car was garaged regularly, and rarely sat in the sum or heat for extended periods of time, which I believe was the main cause of cracking.
The car has Canadian Title and is located in Canada. I live very close to the border at Abbotsford BC and Sumas WA which will have easy importation. I've spoken with BCP in Sumas about the importing process for anyone not familiar with it (quite a bit of it going on according to them) they also referred me to a local Sumas Broker in case one is needed. I can provide phone and name contacts there if anyone likes.
Great questions, thanks for taking the time.

  • JNasty (registered bidder) 5 yearsago

@ahusick - any dash or pod cracks at all? Even tiny between the vents? Almost impossible to find a non cracked 928 dash for some reason. My 86 S has some :(.

Is the car on a Canadian title or a US title? Is the car in WA or Canada (eg: ease of importation).

  • ahusick (seller) 5 yearsago

By way of clarification, the car is available for viewing in the Sumas to Seattle, and Abbotsford BC areas where the car is registered. I want this transparency to put serious bidders at ease. Please let me know if there are any other questions you may have.
