Now available for auction is this 1987 Porsche 930 Turbo finished in Guards Red over a black interior.  A true sports car icon, the 930 Turbo is among the most sought after and highly collectible air-cooled Porsche’s of all time.  This 1987 example has been upgraded with extensive performance modifications including a 3.5 L displacement conversion, a custom full-width intercooler and an updated G50 5-speed manual transmission.  With a full engine-out service performed in 2018 at a cost of over $12k, this generously upgraded 930 Turbo is now being offered for auction showing approximately 52k miles on the odometer (TMU).

Finished in its factory specified color of Guards Red, the paint on this 930 is said to be in excellent condition (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  The 930 Turbo is characterized by its widened fenders and iconic Tea Tray rear spoiler.  This example features a factory sunroof, an upgraded carbon fiber front valance and aftermarket 17” Braid Fuchs wheels which are currently dressed in Sumitomo tires dated from 2018.

Inside, the driver is situated in a black interior with updated Porsche 997 leather Sport Seats and a custom leather wrapped roll bar.  An aftermarket head unit has also been installed along with an updated steering wheel and silver faced instrument gauges with silver bezels.  The air conditioning is currently disconnected, though all other gauges and accessories are stated to be fully functional.

This 930’s original 3.3 L turbocharged flat-six engine has been converted to a higher output 3.5 L displacement by DeMan Motorsport.  Power is sent to the rear wheels through an updated G50 5-speed manual transmission.  This modified Turbo highlights adjustable Fox shock absorbers as well as the following list of performance upgrades amounting to a claimed output of 450+ HP.

  • MoTeC Engine Management
  • Turbo Up Pipe
  • K27 High Flow 2 Turbocharger
  • GT3 RSR Rod Bearings
  • GT3 RSR Oil Pump
  • GT3 RSR Race Crank
  • Titanium Connecting Rods
  • Race Head Studs
  • 3.4L Pistons and Cylinders
  • GT2 Evo Cams
  • 72# Fuel Injectors
  • Carrera Intake Manifold
  • Custom Full Width Intercooler
  • ATL fuel cell

A complete engine-out service was performed in January of 2018 with an invoice totaling over $12k.   This Turbo is said to be in exemplary driving condition with an extensive collection of service records, although a branded title was issued in 1992 for a potential mileage discrepancy following the replacement of a broken odometer.

The sale of this Turbo will include one master key, owner’s books and a collection of service records.  This upgraded Porsche 930 offers an incredible opportunity for any air-cooled enthusiast in search of visceral turbocharged power.

@Skicbco The current mileage is 52,300 and the engine out service was done at51,821. The odometer number of 52,300 to the best of my knowledge is the true number. Based on the superb condition of the car I believe it is correct.

What is the actual mileage on the car chassis?
What is actual mileage since the work on the engine ? Any oil leaks since the engine was pulled ?

@JMS935 Thank you for your comment. I was using the word typo as a “mistake”. Your are correct in that this can be easily corrected by DeMan. If he decides to purchase the car I will see that Is corrected for him or anyone else that meets the reserve.

  • JMS935 3 years, 8 monthsago

Seller: Why are you alienating your current high bidder over what is someone else’s fault? This invoice is not ‘just a typo’, but it is simple enough to clear up instead of telling off an interested buyer - twice. A typo is a misspelled word, this invoice didn’t misspell anything, it’s simply referring to a totally different car at the top of it. The year, model, color, VIN and mileage are all different, while the body of the work in it appears to be for this 930. Are those all typos? Rhetorical. You should’ve just said...‘it was an error by Deman Motorsport since I service several of my cars there, I can have them correct it, thank you for pointing it out.’ Used cars are hard enough to sell as it is, you don’t need to be alienating interested buyers like this to make the process that much more difficult. Good luck with your sale, it appears you’ll need it.

@abacpm Sir as I stated earlier I also own a boxster that was purchased and is serviced at DeMan Motorsport. The receipt from them on the work done to my 930 was a typo. You obviously have questions regarding my integrity and the 930 so this is clearly not the car for you. I wish you luck on finding one that meets your criteria.

  • abacpm (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

    On pic 77 .... receipt for a Boxster ...???? ....

  • Killbugsfast (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@eliasaurus Thank you for your comment. The suspension in this 930 is firm to be candid and this is a car you need to be very focused in when driving so I would not suggest driving it cross country. Mechanically I think it would be fine. I have never had a mechanical issue with it. In my opinion it’s a car to be driven occasionally for its performance that never disappoints.

  • eliasaurus (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Any known issues that could prevent this from being a daily driver?

If it were picked up and driven across the country are there any issues (however small) that should be shared prior to such a trip (aside from it being a long, sweaty drive without the AC :) )

    Thanks!

  • Killbugsfast (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@abacpm Sir that is a typo on the part of DeMan Motorsport. I also own a Boxster and 944S2 and several Ducati’s.I assure you the car is represented with the full transparency and may not be for you. I think the number of 9k for the AC work may or may not be accurate on your part as well.

  • abacpm (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Picture 77. shows the work being done on a Blue Boxster .... you need to be more transparent on your receipts ... .. some are suspicious

  • abacpm (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

To sort the A/C correctly will cost around $9,000 ...I know I just had my 97 Turbo at Patrick Motorsports

  • Killbugsfast (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@c2silver I was told by Rick DeMan at DeManmotorsports it would require putting a belt back on the motor. I only drive the car when the weather is perfect and therefore never needed it. I own a 944s2 and Boxster I do use the AC in.

  • Killbugsfast (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Tombo62 I honestly cannot tell you the exact reason for the odometer replacement. I did have a close look at the Carfax after having owned the car for eight years and the mileage on the car and odometer seems correct. I did not look at a Carfax report when I purchased the car. It’s been a wonderful experience since I have owned it.

  • Tombo62 (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Is it documented that the title is branded due to a speedometer replacement or is that just what has been passed down over the years? Clean CarFax ? For what they’re worth!!

  • c2silver (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

    Nice ride-
What would it take to get the AC working?
