Produced from 1982 to 1991, the Porsche 944 has gained acclaim for its front-mounted four-cylinder engine and balanced driving dynamics. This 1987 example is finished in the extremely rare shade of Azurite Blue over Light Grey interior upholstery modified with color-matched Cipher racing seats. Equipment also includes 16” Phone Dial wheels, upgraded Linsey Racing braided fuel lines, a custom Borla exhaust system, and much more. This 944 is now being offered for auction at no reserve by its seller out of Florida.
This example was ordered in Azurite Blue (LY5D), a rarely seen shade offered exclusively between 1987 and 1991. Accessories include fog lights, pop-up headlamps, a rear spoiler, optional protective side moldings, a replacement Saratoga glass sunroof, and 16” Phone Dial wheels mounted with Kumho Solus tires from 2019. Minor blemishes consistent with age and mileage are noted, including a small dent on the lower portion of the driver’s door, while the seller highlights the absence of clear coat peeling. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with an accident-free CARFAX report.
The Light Grey (LQ) interior is fitted with color-matched Cipher racing seats, complemented by upper and lower dashboard panels refinished in flocking material. An aftermarket JVC head unit has been installed. The cabin is said to be in good cosmetic condition, with the exception of a cracked trim piece near the clock. The air conditioning compressor has been removed, the fuel gauge is occasionally inaccurate, the clock is inoperative, and the odometer is nonfunctional.
The naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle, sending power to the rear wheels. Maintenance under prior ownership is said to include a clutch replacement, a new power steering rack, replacement hood shocks, water pump service, and multiple timing belt replacements. Upon the seller’s acquisition in January 2025, the starter, timing belt, balance shaft belt, and battery have been replaced. Additionally, Lindsey Racing braided fuel lines were installed, and the exhaust system was replaced with a Borla 2.25/2.25 unit, while retaining the original resonator. The seller recommends replacing the motor mounts.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “I am the fourth owner of this example. This is a very reliable car, starts every time, and behaves very consistently. You can hop into this car and take an 800-mile trip immediately, but I would recommend replacing the motor mounts to make the trip more pleasant. The suspension is supple and feels very refined. Driving this car is like entering a time warp; the shifts are smooth and precise. There are a couple of small cosmetic issues to address, but you'll be pressed to find another 944 with this rare original paint and this verified service history.”

@kscritch Hi, the dashboard was completely removed and flocked. It's a process of resurfacing the dashboard with a suede microfiber type of material. Yes, the dashboard had cracks. 2 small cracks have returned but it is still in good shape. The Sunroof is heavily tinted. This is a Saratoga top. Honestly it doesn't get too much hotter than my 1984 with a regular roof. The cabin feels very open and I don't feel the sun on me because of the dark tint.

@tedjmilesjr Hi Ted, I noticed this too on the carfax report. The wonderful people at Midas recorded the incorrect mileage when replacing the muffler. I have the receipt from February 25th 2025. I will be contacting them about it. I will also load the receipt and other documentation.

@jr10cross What material is that on the dash? Is it a carpet-type cover because the original dash was cracked? Or is it some kind of replacement dash?
And does the replacement glass sunroof have a way to close it off from the sun coming through? Hard to tell from the photos. Thanks!
The Carfax shows the milage to be 118,154 on 9/28/2013 and 118,000 pm 2/25/2025. I realize the odometer rolled over, but was it essentially not driven for 11 years?

@Calluty7 of course, it just requires a new AC compressor with bracket holes intact and the regular serpentine belt.
Can that be fixed by a mod?
I once made the same mistake, made a larger bid than intended
I'd like to bid $1944
That last bid should have been $1,500
Watching with great interest! GLWTA!
PCARMARKET made a mistake in the service items, and the listing has been revised to reflect the correct service history.

@C4s_996 Hi c4s_996
I had a beautiful c4s 996 cab 3 years ago btw! I actually prefer it over my 997 c2 S that I have now. The bracket hole mount on the AC compressor broke, which require a replacement compressor. I never use the A/C in these cars because I don't like the hp loss, so I opted to remove the unit and install a smaller serpentine belt. The lines are just tied up so I'm pretty sure its just a new AC compressor, conversion to R-134a and you are good to go. I had a shop take a look to verify my diagnosis and the vibration is definitely caused by worn motor mounts. I was set to have them replaced before this year's 944fest, but things changed when a 72 914 became available. The drive train, clutch and shift linkage are perfect on this car.
@seller did you remove the air conditioning compressor or was it removed during prior ownership? Based on the comments here seems like you know your way around these cars, do you mind sharing if it’s a mission to reinstall one and have the A/C working properly? Also i noticed from the startup video that the vibrations are highly noticeable, are you sure it’s just motor mounts or possibly the balance shaft needs repair? Thank you in advance!
@amissair thank you thank you 🙌🏻
Great rare color! Personally know the owner. He’s a true porsche enthusiast and 944 expert. This car was pampered.
@Kurtboellert so glad you joined the 944 family! Thanks Kurt! Can't wait to see you soon at the next event!
@jevon_43 thanks a bunch bud! ❤️
I know JR personally, and I can say without a doubt that his 944 has been exceptionally well cared for. He’s got tons of experience with these cars, you’re getting it from someone who truly knows these cars inside and out. he’s the first person I reach out to whenever I need help with mine. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve bugged him with questions and he always comes through. He’s meticulous, honest, and knows what he’s doing. Whoever ends up with this car is getting a very nice 944 that is ready to be driven and enjoyed!

He knows the 944 very well and has been well versed in this platform for many, many years. A true 944 gear head, this ad is very honest and presented in a very straightforward way. This is an honest car and will continue to add years of wonderful memories to the next owner. GLWS!

@rickb20 Yep, Rick is can provide you the screenshot of the email to the editors asking for the correction this morning. This is most definitely an N/A producing in 1987 around 150 hp. This is most certainly not a turbo car. Thank you again!
@rickb20 Hi Rick, yes its not a center mounted exhaust. The exhaust inlet and outlets are centered on the muffler with a 2.25 diameter (stock) in and out. The editors wrote that incorrectly and sent them an email at 7am this morning already. Thank you for catching that and asking for further explanation!
In addition to what I said earlier, the ad mentions a center exiting exhaust, which, if installed, involves extensive bodywork underneath. Photo number 41 clearly shows the exhaust exiting in the stock location on the left. So it appears a significant portion of the description in this advertisement is for the wrong car.
Turbo charged? Also, the fuel lines shown in the images do not appear to match those described in the ad. Is it possible a description for a different car was included with this ad?
