We are pleased to present this 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe finished in Venetian Blue Metallic over a Silver-Grey Special Leather interior.  Marking the first model year for the sought after G50 5-speed manual transmission, this 1987 example also features forged Fuchs alloy wheels and a Whale Tail rear spoiler.  It was reported to have been under the care of its previous owner for 29 years. A major service and engine rebuild were carried out prior to the seller’s purchase in 2019, with over $25k more invested this year alone for additional mechanical refurbishment by an authorized Porsche dealer.  Said to be highly original and in superb mechanical and cosmetic order, this beautifully configured 911 Carrera is now being offered by its seller in Florida, accompanied by original books, keys, tools, a clean title, and extensive service records dating back to 1989.

The Venetian Blue Metallic finish is described to be in excellent, mostly original condition with some stone chips on the front bumper and hood, a small scratch on the passenger door and driver’s side rear bumper, and a paint defect on passenger side upper rear fender (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). A paint correction is said to have been carried out earlier in 2020 along with the installation of a new OEM front crest and gasket, rear bumper strips, front spoiler lip, rear spoiler gasket, driver’s side door seal, and the headlight and taillight assemblies. A Whale Tail rear spoiler is said to have been installed by a dealer under previous ownership and this example also features factory Fuchs alloy wheels, a sunroof, and front fog lights.  New wheel center crests were recently installed and new Pirelli P-Zero tires were mounted in 2019.

Inside, this 911 highlights a Silver-Grey Special Leather interior that has been preserved in fantastic condition.  The steering wheel was recently restored along with the re-dying of the front seat surfaces and the installation of a new leather shift knob and new Coco floormats. A Blaupunkt Reno radio is currently installed which is reported to be in poor operating condition by the seller.  All other gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional including the air conditioning system, which was recently overhauled at a Porsche dealership with a new evaporator, fan, compressor, dryer, expansion valve, and hose.

Power comes from an air-cooled 3.2 L flat-six engine that sends 217 HP to the rear wheels by way of a sought-after G50 5-speed manual transmission.  A major service was carried out prior to the seller’s purchase in 2019 at 94,975 miles, which included an engine rebuild, new front and rear shocks, new shift linkage and bushings, rebuilt heads, a new fan housing, new fuel lines, rear sway bar end links, and a new engine sound pad.  Since the seller’s recent acquisition at 95,055 miles, the following items were addressed at a Porsche dealership by a Classic certified mechanic:

  • New Idler Shaft O-Ring Kit
  • New Oil Lines
  • New Oil Sensor and Gasket and Boot
  • Front Turbo Tie Rods
  • Lower and Align
  • Gas Pedal Bushing
  • Gas Tank Vent Hoses
  • New Wiper Blades and Assemblies
  • New Front and Rear Brake Calipers and Pads
  • New Brake Lines, Hoses, and Fluid
  • New Lug Nuts
  • New Center Caps
  • New Master Key
  • New Master Key Heads (2) with Lights
  • New Rear Deck Lid Struts (2)
  • New A/C Components
  • New Accordion Hoses from Heater Box to Car

This sale will include a set of 2 keys, the original books, tools, a spare tire, and a clean title.  This beautifully appointed and incredibly well-sorted Carrera G50 is not to be overlooked.

@Talleyman I have my 1988 that I bought new and it also has the ZZZ chassis stamp and the USA Vin number. As the seller said this is how it Is done. They stamp the chassis and then assign a country, in my case the USA, the same as the car in this auction.

  • FLPcar (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@Talleyman Thank you for your observation. Please note that Porsche creates a “worldwide chassis”, ID’s them with the “ZZZ” designation. Once the chassis is designated to a country specific build, the 911 itself receives the VIN #, country specific. In 2016 Bonhams explained this as well.

  • Talleyman (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@FLPcar, Chassis VIN stamp (ROW) WP0ZZZ91ZHS121186 with COA and door sticker (USA & Japan) WP0AB0914HS121186...only second 911 observed with re-allocated body, unique collectible or drive the doors off as intended. Be interested to see if transmission is actually a G50/00 (or G50/01 - **/00 gears) with different 4th & 5th gear ratios.
Alas, too late to the show to have moneys transferred...this is a sweet Carrera.
FYI...those who want to remove the rear spoiler do at your own risk, aesthetics aside. Without the spoiler these series 911 Carreras are highly unstable at higher speeds and very susceptible to crosswind instability. Rude awakening: Try passing a tractor trailer/ bus at speed, when you pull up to dip in front keep both hands on the wheel and your foot on the gas.

@dennisconnie2 I agree with you 100 percent .... if I’m the lucky bidder I will remove it

  • dennisconnie2 (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

  • BruceM911 3 years, 3 monthsago

I know the seller very well, and he is a true Porsche enthusiast. His attention to detail is beyond reproach. He is the kind of person that you want to buy a car from.
With regards to the car itself, it is a beautiful example and the seller has pretty much left no stone unturned in making it that way. ( I am very familiar with these cars and still have a 1988 Carrera that I bought new). I was with the seller when he bought the car and it was in excellent condition then and now it is even better. I was also there when potential purchasers looked at it for this auction one in particular said he will not find a better example. I agree with him! The car is stunning both in pictures and in person. Good luck with your bids.

@Stefon911 Hello. Please find my answers to your questions...
Could you provide more information on the engine rebuild, was it jus the top end?
This work performed by DRIVERSOURCE Houston, TX12/2/2019
The work done was "Remove engine from vehicle, disassemble all cylinder heads and send for refurbishment. Assemble engine, reinstall, get running and run vehicle on dyno to verify repairs. Perform cylinder compression test after repairs, all cylinders at ~165 psi." "Sublet Repair-Performed by Scroggins Machine Inc. Houston, TX 7/20/2019- Disassemble, soda blast, measure and refurbish 6 cylinder heads. Replace 1 intake and 1 exhaust valve in one head, set spring shims and assemble" This work performed by Porsche West Broward Classic mechanic 6/11/2020 "Remove engine and install seals for the rocker shafts rods on all valves (and adjust valves). Note, this is a Service Bulletin O-ring kit that some shops install during cylinder head repair and some do not. Since it was not done during the 2019 refurbishment I had it done to preclude any oil leaks.
New clutch? No. Inspected and it is in good condition.
Did all the a/c lines get replaced, front to back? No, inspected and in good condition. They held a solid vacuum for 24 hours and the charge thereafter.
    Thanks

@Fresnofile The radio turns on and the volume is very low. I have not had it diagnosed. I believe a few repair shops are out there to send it to. Radioman in San Diego is one.

@ALZ38 On Monday I will take all of the pictures you requested. What was drivers side front and rear lights replaced? The lights were old, ie the headlights get a film on the inside so I purchased new Porsche headlight assemblies, I also purchased new Porsche taillight assemblies as one had a little moisture getting inside. (Possibly accident?) No evidence of any previous accident. How many owners? It is my understanding the previous owners from Winter Park, FL had this since new until 2018 when they retired. I did talk to them after I purchased the car from DriversSource of Houston, TX. They sold it when they retired. And locations? TN, FL, TX and now FL

I wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday. The 911 looks excellent in every detail and drives like new. That was my goal, as I am very detail oriented and enjoyed spending this entire year bringing it to an ever higher level by restoring it. I look forward to your interest. In its first PCA Peoples Choice car show last weekend it received a trophy!
