The Volkswagen Type 2 T3 represents the third generation of Volkswagen vans which were produced in Hannover, Germany from 1979 to 1991 before finishing production in Austria and South Africa. This 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia is finished in Dove Blue Metallic and equipped with a full Westfalia camper setup including a Desert Beige pop-top.  Featuring the Wolfsburg Edition and Weekender Packagees, the interior has a retro blue and white motif and the van retains its stock 2.1-liter Wasserboxer flat-four engine paired with a 4-speed manual transaxle. Approximately 60k miles have been added by the current owner who acquired the van in 2014. With extensive service conducted under current ownership, this Vanagon is now offered for auction by its seller out of Washington while showing approximately 182k miles on the odometer.

This Wolfsburg Edition Westfalia is finished in Dove Blue Metallic with a Desert Beige pop-top. Featuring an upgraded halogen headlight kit, this van rides on factory Volkswagen 18" Alloy Wheels which come wrapped in Michelin Defender tires that measure 215/60R18 and were installed at 177k miles in 2021. Some cracking in the paint on the nose of the van is noted, as well as some rust on the right rear of the vehicle and minor impact marks on the rear bumper. The fiberglass pop-top shows some patina from sun fading and there is a small 1" tear near the left rear corner of the canvas top. A collection of detailed images including a clean CARFAX report are provided in the gallery.

Inside, the Wolfsburg Edition with Weekender Package interior is adorned in a retro blue and white motif complete with wrap-around shades and blue tweed cloth seats front and rear.  Some wear is noted on the driver’s seat and both front seats are currently wrapped in removable seat covers. No tears or stains are noted on the pop-top mattress, jump seat, or rear bench. Upgrades include a JVC head unit along with front and rear speakers which were installed in 2012.  An auxiliary air conditioner has also been installed, but the seller notes that while the blower functions, it does not blow cold. All other gauges and accessories are reported to be functioning properly.

This Vanagon is powered by a 2.1-liter Wasserboxer Engine capable of producing up to 95 HP which is sent to the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed manual transmission. This van benefits from a number of completed service items including a GoWesty shifter system overhaul performed in 2017. Both drive axles were replaced at 149k miles and clutch, flywheel, and slave cylinder replacement as well as flywheel resurfacing completed in 2018 at 157k miles. Front stopping power is provided by 280mm discs that were installed at 172k miles and both front calipers, brake master cylinder, and front brake pads were replaced at 169k miles. New 252mm rear drums, shoes, wheel cylinders, and axle seals were installed at 178k miles. Most recent service items include a catalytic converter and oxygen sensor replacement as well as new spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, power steering belt, alternator belt, fuel filter, and air filter, along with an oil service. A new A/C compressor was recently installed, but it currently does not have a belt, and a small leak is noted from the left output shaft seal. Extensive maintenance records are available from the current owner's stewardship.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Thanks for visiting my auction. For the last 10 years, this Westy has seen some of the most beautiful sights in the United States. Driving this van has provided countless hours of fun and tranquility. I have done my best to keep it on the road and in great mechanical order. May the next owner enjoy it as much as I have.”
