Available for auction is this 1988 BMW M5 finished in Schwarz over a Natur leather interior. One of the last hand-assembled BMW M-Series cars, the E28 M5 was offered for only one model year in North America and was available in two color schemes (Schwarz/Natur and Schwarz/Black). The seller states this vehicle has undergone a month-long restoration including a new fuel pump, fuel filter, new brakes, injectors, and more before undergoing a full repaint at Vintage Works Restoration and Reconditioning in October of 2022. Showing just over 120k miles, this E28 M5 is now being offered for auction out of Ohio.

The exterior of this E28 M5 is finished in Schwarz paint and features a center dual-tipped exhaust, a power sunroof, and a rear decklid spoiler. It sits on factory silver-finished BBS 16" cross-spoke basketweave wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport tires purchased and fitted in November 2022. The seller states the vehicle was completely repainted in October 2022 at Vintage Works Restoration and Reconditioning, additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, this 1988 BMW M5 features a Natur tan leather interior including a three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, power windows and seats, air conditioning, and cruise control. Some normal signs of wear are present on the seat bolsters and the seller notes there are no cracks in the dashboard.

The E28 M5 is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter inline-six-cylinder engine featuring individual throttle bodies. Factory-rated at 256 HP and 243 lb.-ft of torque, the S38B35 engine drives the rear wheels via a Getrag 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Some corrosion is noted on the exhaust, although no leaks are reported.

The sale of this vehicle includes a clean title.

Evening all and thanks to all bidders. We did have an oil level sensor warning light kick on today during our drive. The mechanic who inspected the car was able to order us a new one and diagnose that the new switch will resolve the issue. If the part is delayed in arriving we will mail it to the winner with a $300 credit to install the new part. All other instruments are currently functioning properly and there are no other warning lights. If anyone has any questions please let me know.

Leak down numbers? Those will help serious buyers of the S38.

This is John with CentralClassicCars.com, we are truly excited to bring you this rare piece of automobile history. We purchased the vehicle out of an estate and had it repainted due to scratches that were on numerous panels of the car. A receipt as well as photos will show a very nice paint job. We also had the car serviced, during which time the fuel pump was replaced along with the fuel filter, new brakes all around, injectors were cleaned, oil was changed, and a new battery was installed along with new tires. If anyone has questions regarding the vehicle, please let us know. Good luck to all!
