Up for auction is this 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet M491 finished in Dark Blue over special Champagne/Blue leather.  One of the few North American Cabriolets to have been specified with the $14k M491 option in 1988, this Carrera features the wide bodywork, suspension, and brakes of the 930 Turbo model. Additionally, this 911 features factory power-operated seats with deviated blue piping, a shorter gear shift lever, a desirable G50 5-speed manual gearbox, and an upgraded 3.4L flat-six engine.  First registered in Miami, Florida, this Carrera eventually made its way to Wisconsin in the early 2000s before returning to Miami upon the current owner’s acquisition in 2012.  Among the rarest variants of the 911 Carrera, this highly collectible M491 Cabriolet is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

The Cabriolet comes finished in the rare nonmetallic shade of Dark Blue.  The M491 option adds the wide fenders, wheels, and bumpers of the Turbo model along with a front air dam and Tea Tray rear spoiler.  Some minor scratches and paint peel are noted throughout the exterior and the seller reports the car to have been kept indoors in a climate-controlled setting throughout their ownership. The CARFAX report shows damage to have occurred to the passenger side in 1989; although no further information is available. The car is believed to have likely been refinished under prior ownership, additional images and paint meter readings are provided in the photo gallery.  This 911 retains its factory Turbo-spec 16” staggered-width Fuchs wheels currently dressed in Toyo Proxes tires.

Inside, this 911 showcases a special Champagne and Blue leather interior contrasting seat piping.  Other factory options include a shorter gear shift lever, power-operated seats, and cruise control.  An upgraded 930SE-style 3-spoke steering wheel has been installed along with a Dark Blue painted roll bar and an aftermarket Kenwood stereo. The seller reports that a new convertible top and rear window have been installed under their ownership and confirms all gauges and accessories to be working properly apart from the radio which is currently disconnected, and the air conditioning which does not blow cold.  The odometer currently reads just under 9k miles, and the seller estimates the true mileage to be closer to 110k.

The flat-six engine was rebuilt under prior ownership and upgraded to a 3.4L displacement with a big bore kit along with 100mm Mahle forged pistons, stainless valves, Carillo rods, 906 cams, ported and polished heads, ARP bolts and studs, a performance curved distributor, high-flow air filter, SSI heat exchangers, and a Borla stainless steel exhaust.  The previous owner estimated the engine output at 270 HP.  The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox.  The M491 package adds the upgraded brakes and suspension from the 930 Turbo including larger front and rear sway bars.  Some service invoices are provided for reference in the photo gallery.
