We are pleased to offer this 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe finished in the outstanding combination of Granite Green Metallic over a Grey Green interior.  Featuring a highly desirable G50 5-speed manual gearbox, this highly original 1988 example was purchased by its current owner about 20 years ago at just under 15k miles.  The car was thoroughly inspected at the time of purchase and has been garage-kept and sparingly driven ever since.  With all routine service reported to have been kept up to date, this 1988 Carrera is now being offered by its longtime owner out of South Carolina with just over 40k miles showing on the odometer, accompanied by the original window sticker, books, and tools.

This example is finished in the rare special-order color of Granite Green Metallic, an option that commanded an additional $822 on the original sticker price.  The paint is said to have been kept in very good original condition with only small chips noted under the driver’s side mirror and just behind the passenger door. Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX and recent paint meter readings.  Some exterior features include a front spoiler, fog lights, and classic Fuchs wheels with polished outer lips and black painted centers and caps.  The original 16”x 6” front wheels have been retained and upgraded Turbo-spec 16”x 9” rear wheels were fitted under previous ownership. The car has also reportedly been lowered to European ride height.

The exterior is complemented by a beautiful Grey Green partial leather interior.  Factory optional features include a Blaupunkt “Reno” radio, a shorter gear shift lever, automatic heating control, an alarm system, and an electric sunroof.  The air conditioning system is said to be fully operational and was recently converted to R134a.  The electric sunroof is currently nonfunctional.

This Carrera is equipped with an air-cooled 3.2 L flat-six engine that sends as much as 217 HP to the rear wheels through a sought-after G50 5-speed manual gearbox.  All routine service is said to have been addressed as needed, and over forty maintenance invoices are said to be included which are mostly from Porsche dealers.  The fuel tank sending unit has been recently replaced and the car was just brought to a Porsche "Gold Meister" technician for a thorough pre-sale inspection and 40k mile recommended service.

This sale will include the original key set, window sticker, owner’s manuals, tools, spare tire, air pump, service records, a car cover, front bra, leather mirror covers, and a clean title.  With its remarkable factory specifications, low mileage, and preferable G50 gearbox, this highly original Carrera would be an absolute treasure for any discerning air-cooled collector.

  • VertexAuto (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

Call me crazy, but I have a feeling this one is going to get close to the $100K mark. Congrats to the seller. Very well cared for and well documented. In my opinion one of the best color combos for a G50. This one is going to go home to one very lucky person. Good luck to all!

  • WDW (seller) 3 yearsago

This one closes today, folks. I want to thank everyone for your interest. This is my first auction, and it's been an adventure. The reserve has been met and after 20 years of my ownership, the car will sell. I bought the car at age 60 which might give a clue as to why I'm selling it. I'm certain the new owner will not be disappointed. Who knows how many of these superb cars are still around in this condition? Again, thanks for your interest...still a few hours left!

  • driving_impaired 3 yearsago

What a spec!! Hadn't come across this shade of green before... kind of looks like the precursor to Aventurine green on the 992. Absolute stunner, GLWA!

@Pump993 To follow up, I just went through the dealer invoices. There are two incidents involving the speedometer. The first was on 08/05/2005, when the local dealer replaced the speedometer sensor cable. The odometer reading on that date was 24,799. I remember the previous visit, on 03/11/2005, because it was my first visit to the new Porsche dealer for this area. A full inspection and service was completed and the odometer reading on that date was 24,086. So, between 03/11/2005 and 08/05/2005, 713 miles registered on the odometer.

On 08/27/2010 I took the car to the dealer for a valve adjustment, CV boot, and speedometer issue. The odometer reading on that date was 33,052. A few weeks prior to that, on 08/09/2010, there’s another invoice for an oil change, A/C service and fuel system service. The odometer reading on that day was 33,050. My home is around five miles from the dealer, so that reading cannot be correct. About a year prior to that, on 07/23/2009, there’s an invoice for A/C service and a piece of interior seat trim that required replacement. The odometer reading on that date was 33,010. So, between the 07/23/2009 invoice and the 08/09/2010 invoice, 40 miles registered on the odometer. Then between the 08/09/2010 invoice and the 08/27/2010 invoice, 2 additional miles registered. I know that's a lot of detail, but hope it answers your question. Thanks for your interest.

  • WDW (seller) 3 yearsago

@Pump993 The odometer is functioning, and I’ve driven the car 54 miles since the last service shown in photos 123 and 124. The speedometer or odometer did stop functioning years ago, and I’ll go through the invoices and get back to you with a more complete answer. Thanks for your interest.

@Clint930 Photo numbers 123 and 124 show the technician's invoice. The first item records that the clutch slave cylinder was replaced. All additional work, including the 40k service, is also included on that invoice. I know the valves were adjusted, but a compression test was not performed. Thanks for your interest.

  • Clint930 (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

Is it possible to post the report from the Porsche "Gold Meister" technician. Interested in knowing the condition of the transmission (synchros), clutch and compression test results if that was performed. Thanks!

I could not love this car more! Truly a dream car. May it sell well for you!

  • WDW (seller) 3 yearsago

@probinson1627 Good questions. I just found an invoice from November 2007. The tires look great, and I've only replaced them once since I've owned the car. The invoice recorded the car's milage at 28,502 when the tires were mounted. Last year I had the tires evaluated. They showed no sign of dry rot and the tread was excellent.

The sunroof issue was cables. I opted not to repair it because I was not willing to disturb the headliner and rarely used the sunroof. Thanks for your interest.

  • probinson1627 (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

What is the issue with the sunroof, and what is the age of the tires?

  • DriverM (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

@WDW Thank you. Just wanted to confirm the original paint. Beautiful car and a serious buyer here.

  • WDW (seller) 3 yearsago

@DriverM I'll be glad to do that. Can you please tell me if you have specific areas of the car you'd like to see readings on? In the meantime, I'll be working on some and will submit as soon as I can. As a general comment, the paint on this car has always been a great asset. There has never been any damage or paintwork, but I understand your request. Thanks for your interest.

  • WDW (seller) 3 yearsago

@PeteofBrooklyn Inspections are certainly possible. Please let me know if you're in this area and what you would like to arrange. Also, if you haven't already, please check out the two photos of the presale inspection and 40K mile service invoice. Thanks for your interest.

  • WDW (seller) 3 yearsago

Thanks for checking out my listing, folks. I'll try to answer any and all questions as quickly as possible.

  • DriverM (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

I would greatly appreciate if you could post clearer paint meter readings. Thanks in advance.....
