Now available for auction is this 1988 Porsche 930 Turbo Coupe finished in Guards Red over a Champagne special leather interior.  Purchased new by the seller from John Hicks Porsche of Tennessee, this 1988 Turbo has been diligently maintained and cared for throughout the years while always being garage kept.  At approximately 35k miles, this 930 was brought to Franz Blam Racing in Georgia to undergo a full engine rebuild and upgrade including Electromotive twin-plug ignition, upgraded rods and pistons, a K27 turbocharger, and more.  Other modifications include a full coilover suspension, a lightweight flywheel, a competition clutch kit, and genuine 3-piece BBS wheels.  Having undergone a recent engine-out service and valve adjustment in 2020, this remarkable 930 is now being offered for auction by its original owner out of Georgia while showing approximately 75k miles on the odometer accompanied by the original books, window sticker, and a collection of original parts.

This 930 is finished in Guards Red and features wide fenders, a front spoiler, and a distinctive Tea Tray rear decklid.  The undercarriage is said to have been recently detailed, and the car is reported to have spent nearly its entire life indoors protected from the elements, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report and paint meter readings.  This Turbo rides on a set of desireable 16” BBS E26 aluminum 3-piece wheels which come dressed in Yokohama tires.

Inside, the Champagne Beige special leather interior was factory-equipped with a power-operated driver’s seat with heating and lumbar support, a steering wheel with a raised hub, a luggage compartment with black velour carpeting, and a power-operated sunroof.  An aftermarket MOMO steering wheel has been installed along with an Alpine radio and an Electromotive boost controller module in the dashboard. The rubber door seals have been recently replaced and the seller notes that new sunroof cables were installed within the last several years along with new sunroof guides and weather stripping.  All gauges and accessories are reported to be fully functional, and the odometer is said to have stopped working at some point and was promptly repaired with less than 100 miles discrepancy as a result.

The air-cooled 3.3L turbocharged flat-six engine sends power to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission and factory optioned limited-slip differential.  At approximately 35k miles, the engine was fully rebuilt by Franz Blam Racing and upgraded with an Electromotive twin-plug ignition system, new pistons, Carillo rods, 911SC cams, and a K27 turbocharger.  An Electromotive boost controller was also installed along with stainless steel headers, a lightweight steel flywheel, and a competition clutch kit.  Modifications to the suspension include coilovers, upgraded sway bars, a front strut tower brace, and adjustable custom-built rear spring plates.  This 930 has been under the care of an experienced road racer and is said to have never been subjected to track use.  All routine service and preventative maintenance are reported to have been carried out by Franz Blam Racing including a major engine-out service in the winter of 2020 which included new gaskets and a valve adjustment.

This sale will include a clean title, the original owner’s manuals, bill of sale, window sticker, toolkit, spare tire, and air compressor.  Also accompanying the sale is a collection of original parts including the factory turbocharger and exhaust manifolds.  Highlighting a considerable amount of performance upgrades, this one-owner 930 Turbo is ready to be enjoyed by its next caretaker.

Would you post a pic of the engine rebuild invoice and would it be possible to see your car in the next couple of days ?

  • OttoBozart (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@rabflyer I’ve owned an 88 930 from new. The original clutch required a strong left leg and had very little feel. It was engaged until it wasn’t at the top of the pedal stroke. The racing clutch was a pleasant surprise as it requires significantly less effort and has feedback throughout the pedal stroke.

  • LMC11 (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@Johnbugg yes it was done in dec when we did an engine out tune up and valve cover upgrade but I cannot give you the figures but all as good

  • Johnbugg (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@LMC11 thanks so much,,i am 80,want to go out in a blast

  • LMC11 (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@rabflyer , the clutch doesn’t seem to be very strong on pedal pressure compared to all the race cars I’ve driven . I’m 72 with bad back issues and I have no problem driving it in stop and go city traffic .

  • rabflyer 2 years, 11 monthsago

beautiful car,i am a older man,? is,does the race clutch require more pedal pressure than stock, which is already high, thanks

@Johnbugg Franz is still doing bussiness for his older customers I spoke with him this afternoon . Unfortuntanly they were stolen from my shop . The original size wouldn’t fit the modification for the wheel size .

  • Johnbugg (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Did you hold on to the Fuchs for the car , is Franz still in business? Nice car !

  • LMC11 (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@RotorRider Yes sir ,I am familar; and then convertor was removed duing the modifications and it will rrun on either , I just dont really njeed the extra octane for the way I drive it but , but you can use racing fuel

  • RotorRider (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@LMC11 I was referring to leaded fuel vs unleaded fuel. I use aviation fuel in a few performance cars that I have because it is much higher octane but it does contain lead. Lead will ruin a catalytic converter.

  • LMC11 (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@RotorRider It has but I've never ran any ethonol fuel in it

  • RotorRider (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

With the cat removed I'm going to speculate that the car can now run leaded or unleaded fuel?

  • LMC11 (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@LMC11 It has a electronic variable boost control with three setting from .75 bar to 1.5 bar . I have very rarley ran it on the high sertting of 1.5 but almost always it has had 99.9% of its time at .75bar

  • LMC11 (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@LMC11 I use pump gas high test ,

  • LMC11 (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@DJATL thanks ;I chose to do the engine at 35,000 miles due to hanging around Franz Blams shop during times that he was building engines for an RSR that I was racing I just want alittle more ZAP and improve the driving feel by doing the suspension , There were no problems with the mlotor and trans it was just a want to thing. The turbo lag has been greatly improved as the ring gear and pinion were change to allow first gear to spin up quicker . It hasnt been on a dyno however Franz has done many of these conversions and said it would be between 425 to 450 from his oponion .

  • DJATL (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Beautiful car. Can you comment more on the engine mods? Why did you decide to go that route at 35k? Was there an issue with the original engine? What boost are you typically running? Pump gas or race fuel? How does turbo lag compare to the original? Did you ever have the car on a dyno? Thanks

  • Silver930 (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Very nice 930 with some great upgrades.

  • LMC11 (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

This car has been my dream car from the first time I ever saw a 930. I have cherished it and babied it along with driving it for pleasure .I've been a road racer for 25 years and maintain my cars and equipnment to the highest degree at the same time enjoyed the driving in the north Ga. mountians . This car has never been a track car ,only used for trips and fun . If something ever went bad it has been replaced or repaired . The car has never had any body damage and paint and interior are original .Due to my age and health reasons is the only reason its for sale. At one time I requested to be buried in it but have changed my mind. please feel free to ask me anything as I want someone to own the car that will enjoy and cherish it as I have . I know you see cars with lower milage but I can assure you the listed miles are correct . When the odometer gear wore out due to factory applied grease to rubber gears it was imeditally repaired . the car has been modifed to be my street toy and is very reliable and a blast to drive .

  • LMC11 (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

No , it has a stainless steel header system with stainless heat collecting boxes

  • chapple121 (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Does this car retain its factory emission control devices (catalytic converter)?
