This 1988 Porsche 911 Turbo is one of 591 Cabriolet versions sold in the United States for the model year and comes finished in Guards Red over a black interior with deviated red piping. It has been part of the current owner’s collection since 2019 and benefits from extensive refurbishment including an engine rebuild, repaint, and custom reupholstered interior. Showing under 57k miles on the odometer, this 930 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.

The 930 is defined by its wide fenders and iconic Tea Tray rear spoiler. This example is finished in Guards Red with a black cabriolet roof and factory 16” Fuchs alloy wheels. The seller states the car was refinished in its original color in 2012 and some small rock chips are present on the front bumper, additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin was custom reupholstered in 2016 in black leather with matching carpets and deviated red seat piping and door panels. Accessories include power windows and seats, automatic speed control, air conditioning, and a sound system paired with an upgraded Blaupunkt radio. The seller notes the dashboard clock is currently inoperable.

Power comes from a turbocharged and intercooled 3.3-liter flat-six engine paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. Up to 282 HP and 289 lb.-ft of torque are sent to the rear wheels while stopping power comes from fixed 4-piston brakes paired with cross-drilled rotors at each corner. The seller states an engine rebuild was completed in 2006, general maintenance was performed in 2013, and the brakes were replaced under current ownership along with the convertible top motor.

This sale will include a clean title and a collection of records.

The seller would like you to know: “I’ve owned the car since 2019, part of an extensive collection. Stored in heated barn/garage. Driven just a few hundred miles a year. Runs & pulls great. A great car.”

@SilverRose Sorry, I can only speak for mine, as I just saw the spacer this past weekend after a screw ruined a perfectly good Michelin Pilot Sport.

  • Exit5 (seller) 11 months, 3 weeksago

@SilverRose Thanks for the guidance here. Unfortunately, I can't seem to locate the casting numbers. Please let me know if there is another way to obtain the information that you are looking for.

  • SilverRose (registered bidder) 11 months, 3 weeksago

@OttoBozart - did all the 930s have a spacer? I have m491 and had 930 and assumed the factory track and 9" wheels did the trick. Agree this looks narrow.

  • SilverRose (registered bidder) 11 months, 3 weeksago

@Exit5 - re track, can you get the width castings from from real wheels, might not be 9" wide. Porsche made those rims in 6, 7, 8 and 9 widths.

  • OttoBozart (registered bidder) 11 months, 3 weeksago

@Pcars. The track at the rear is definitively incorrect, as the tires do not fill out the wheel wells. As an original and current owner of a 88 930 Cab, and one who just walked back from the garage, my tires are approximately 6.25mm inside the fender flairs. My W.A.G. Is that someone, at some point in time did not install the spacer that rides on the rear studs.

For the more demanding Porsche fanatics out there, I can take my carpenter’s square to confirm my approximate measurement.

  • Exit5 (seller) 11 months, 3 weeksago

I do not believe there have been any modifications to the track width. I have made no changes myself and I don’t see evidence of alterations. If there are particular pictures or measurements that you’d like me to take please let me know. I’m happy to do that and post the results.

The paint work was performed in 2016 and I have the prior owners receipts for that. The details of which can be found on pictures 142-145. They total approximately $10k so there was a lot of care put into it. I can’t say, however, if it was brought down to bare metal.

The engine rebuild was performed between November 2005 and January 2006 at a cost of approximately $20k. Details of that work can be seen in pictures 132-134. Service records from that point on show that continued attention was given the the overall maintenance of this vehicle. This was actually one of the driving factors that led me to purchase the vehicle in 2019.

I hope this helps answer your questions, please let me know if any other questions arise.

Can you comment on the rear track width, from the pictures it looks too narrow.

Was the repaint a bare metal window out respray?

How extensive was the engine rebuild?

    Thanks glwa!

Thank you in advance for taking the time to look at my 911. We are listing this vehicle under our dealership (I am one of the owners) but this car is part of my personal collection and I have owned it since 2019. When I purchased it, most of the restoration had already been done. I have included all of the previous owner's repair orders as well as those performed under my care in the last few years. I will be responding to questions on a daily basis and can make the car available for an in-person inspection if desired. Happy bidding!
