Now up for auction is this 1988 Porsche 928 S4 finished in Black over tan leather.  Signifying a major evolution for the 928 model, the S4 was debuted in 1987 with revised styling, improved brakes, and upgraded engine internals which helped the 5.0 L V8 produce up to 316 HP.  This 1988 example has reportedly been under the care of its second and current owner since 1991.  Having been garage kept nearly its entire life, this 928 received a timing belt replacement within the last 4 years and 300 miles and is now being offered for auction on behalf of the long-term current owner out of Tennessee with just over 86k miles showing on the odometer.

The Black paint is described to be in very good condition throughout with some signs of road-going wear. Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX.  The 928 S4 distinguishes itself from its predecessors with aerodynamically improved bumpers and a rear spoiler.  This example retains factory side protection moldings and 16” flat-dish “Manhole Cover” wheels in a chrome finish with colored Porsche center crests.

Inside, you will find a luxurious tan leather interior with a black dashboard and upper door panels.  The cabin is said to be in fair condition with heavy wear noted on the driver’s seat bolster.  The original Blaupunkt radio remains in place and the seller reports no issues with the power accessories or electronics.

This S4 is equipped with a 5.0 L DOHC V8 engine that sends up to 316 HP to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transaxle.  An upgraded muffler has been installed and this grand tourer reportedly underwent a timing belt replacement about 4 years ago with approximately 300 miles driven since.  Regular fluid and filter changes are said to have been carried out by the original owner and this 928 is said to be in very strong running and driving condition at this time.

This sale will include a master key, a spare tire, tools, and a clean title.  Celebrated for its luxurious accommodations and robust V8 power plant, this long-term owner 928 S4 offers tremendous value for any Porsche enthusiast.

Interior presents very well. Good color combination. Car exterior needs a major detail on the black paint. Lots of scratches and swirl marks along with seemingly excessive amount of paint chips on the nose. Engine bay looks pretty dirty and those rad clamps don't look they have been removed for a long time. The shocks look they have bee n "off -roading". Anyway, a few hundred dollar detail could have brought more money...

At the present the items you listed appears to be in good working order . The engine runs fine no leaks or noisy coming from it.

Everybody asks about the timing belt. What about the water pump, rebuild the tensioner, rollers, front main seal, oil pump seals, cam gear wear, oil pump gear? It’s not the belt that wears out it’s the associated bits that cause it to fail. Why just do the belt when you are already in there. I have never seen a worn out belt without another part that caused it. The stock tensioner is the main culprit which is archaic by today’s standards.

Unfortunate ,I can't find the receipt for the timing belt replacement. All the service work on car was done by a retired Porsche certified Mechanic who is no longer living. He took care all periodic maintenance which included oil change , timing belts and tune-ups .

Do you have the receipt for the TB replacement (?WP too) from 4 years ago? If you do, please upload it if you can. thanks
