Created in a limited production run of 500 examples, the M3 Evolution II was the second in a series of updated M3 homologation cars created by BMW for Group A racing. The car featured improved aerodynamics borrowed from its racing counterpart along with the most powerful version of the four-cylinder S14 engine yet. This 1989 example is designated as #491/500. Accompanied by a thorough maintenance record, this rare and highly collectible BMW is now being offered for auction showing approximately 159k kilometers (or under 99k miles) on the odometer.

This E30 is finished in Nogaro Silver, one of three colors originally offered on the Evolution II model. In comparison to the standard M3, the Evo II includes a lighter trunk lid and bumper assemblies along with a modified rear wing and an aggressive front valence with integrated brake cooling ducts. It rides on BBS cross-spoke wheels measuring 16”x7.5” at each corner.  The seller states the car had previously been refinished in its original color and is currently preserved by a layer of paint protection film and ceramic coating. One small chip in the original glass windshield has also been filled in to prevent cracking. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is trimmed in a combination of silver-grey leather with plaid cloth inserts lining the seat centers and door panels. M logos are incorporated into the seat backrests and a special designation plaque is located ahead of the shifter reading the car’s individual production number. Other accessories include an Alcantara three-spoke steering wheel with M tricolor stitching, an M shift knob, M3-logo door sills, power-operated seats and mirrors, front seat heating, air conditioning, a sunroof, and an upgraded sound system paired with an aftermarket Continental Bluetooth radio. The seller notes additional interior upholstery will be included.

Distinguishable from the engines in other M3s, the S14 in the Evolution II model features a unique, white-painted cam cover and intake plenum. The 2.3-liter four-cylinder motor produces 30 HP more than that of a standard M3, sending up to 220 HP and 181 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a Getrag close-ratio 5-speed manual gearbox and limited-slip differential. The seller states that a binder of records accompanies the sale showing a lifetime of routine maintenance.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a spare tire, a car cover, and a clean title along with spare interior upholstery.

The seller would like you to know: “Amazing vehicle, true collector’s car. I love this car, and it is a trophy for me. Moving onto something else, which is the reason for the sale. This car drives very well, and it is a refresher in comparison to my e46 and e92 M3. The BMW M3 E30 Evo 2 is a high-performance sports car that was produced by BMW from 1986 to 1992. This limited-edition version of the E30 M3 was introduced in 1988 and features several enhancements over the standard model. Like the standard E30 M3, the Evo 2 has exceptional handling and responsiveness, thanks to its rear-wheel drive configuration, stiff chassis, and advanced suspension system. The car's nimble handling and precise steering make it a joy to drive on winding roads, while its powerful brakes provide excellent stopping power. Overall, the BMW M3 E30 Evo 2 is a rare and highly desirable sports car that offers exceptional performance and handling. Its limited production and unique design make it a true classic and a must-have for any BMW enthusiast or collector.”

For the underbody have any photos at the current moment, I can add them tomorrow it is hard to get underbody pics because of the snow, but based on inspection report I have: The rear of the car is in generally very good condition. The trunk lid is another M3 specific part. Instead of being made of steel, it is made of plastic to save weight. It is also much taller than the normal E30 trunk lid to help with the aerodynamics of the car. An original M3 EVO II specific winged spoiler is attached to the rear of the lid as well. The new paint on the trunk lid shows very well with no damage seen. The centre BMW Roundel emblem and the M3 emblem are new replacements in excellent condition. The underside of the lid is in very good original condition and retains its original German market “on-call service center” roadside assistance information decal. The car’s undercarriage is in solid, rust free original condition. No damage was noted on the visible areas of the floorboards or unibody structure. There is a layer of factory undercoating protecting the underside of the car. An aftermarket Super Sprint stainless steel rear muffler assembly has been installed. The factory four-wheel disc brakes are retained. Newer aftermarket Eibach lowering springs are also installed.

@Nj993c2 No i am not sure why the inconsistency is there, we have has the car throughly checked with a PPI and with an appraisal/inspection. As per both the appraisal and inspection:

"The vehicle was not yet licensed at the time of the inspection. It shows an odometer reading
of 158,061 kilometers. Though the odometer is neither verified nor completely documented as
showing the true, total life mileage on the car at this time, it is believed to be accurate."

I was told that this may be an error due to the importing of the vehicle it is quite common

  • Nj993c2 (registered bidder) 1 year, 1 monthago

Seller: do you know what happened with the mileage inconsistency on the carfax?

  • jgrizzwal (seller) 1 year, 1 monthago

@subere It is funny that they did that on the retail models of the evo 2, also included heated seats. As much as these were race cars, the 500 homologation vehicles were also luxury for that era.

  • subere (registered bidder) 1 year, 1 monthago

I find it odd that BMW saw fit to install a sunroof on the lightweight higher performance model. Did the race cars of the era have that feature?

@topcarbon hey hows it going, luckily importing a car into the US is much easier than importing into Canada. I know you guys save on the tax, I sold a m3 to a gentleman in the US, he just needed the paperwork, cost him under $1000, he lived in NY so he had to pay state tax when registering it. He used the company posted below, here are some helpful links as well.
