Celebrating a quarter-century of 911 production, the Porsche 911 Carrera 25th Anniversary Edition was offered for the 1989 model year featuring body-colored Fuchs wheels, front and rear spoilers, commemorative badging, a short-shift lever, and a Silk Grey leather interior with deviated black piping and a special center console. Of the 500 examples sold in the United States, this example represents only 300 Coupe versions and comes finished in Silver Metallic. It was sold new in Los Angeles and remained with its original owner in Southern California before trading it into a dealer about two years ago where the seller purchased it. Showing just over 48k miles on the odometer, this highly collectible 911 is now being offered for auction by its second owner out of California.

The 25th Anniversary Edition was available with either Satin Black Metallic or Silver Metallic paint and came standard with front and rear spoilers and 16” Fuchs wheels with body-colored centers. This Coupe is finished in Silver Metallic with an optional rear window wiper, headlamp washers, and an electric sunroof. Replacement 16” Fuchs wheels were installed and mounted with new Continental ExtremeContact tires in 2022 within the last 6k miles. The original set of body-colored Fuchs wheels is also included in the sale. The car’s exterior is described to be in excellent overall condition while showing some minor cosmetic imperfections. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, this special-edition 911 features Silk Grey leather (97) upholstery with black seat piping and a special leather-wrapped center console including cassette storage, climate control knobs, and an outside temperature gauge. Other accessories include power windows and mirrors, cruise control, a central locking system, a commemorative bronze badge, and an upgraded Bluetooth-enabled Blaupunkt head unit paired with Infinity speakers and a Kicker subwoofer. The original Blaupunkt cassette radio is also included in the sale and the seller reports the currently installed stereo cuts out on rare occasions. The car’s original factory specifications label contains the following items:

  • 098 – 25th Anniversary Edition in Silver Metallic (USA)
  • 158 – Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 Cassette Radio
  • 243 – Short-Shift Lever for G50 Transmission
  • 286 – Intensified Windscreen Washer
  • 288 – Headlamp Washer
  • 425 – Rear Window Wiper
  • 454 – Cruise Control
  • 473 – Front and Rear Spoiler
  • 490 – Sound System
  • 494 – Amplifier
  • 650 – Electric Sunroof
  • 935 – Supple Leather Front Seats
  • 980 – Supple Leather Rear Seats

An air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 217 HP and 195 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed G50 manual transaxle. The seller indicates the car was thoroughly inspected and serviced accordingly at the time of their purchase and has been regularly maintained under their ownership including a repair to the A/C system. The seller adds that although the battery has been replaced, the car has had some trouble starting after being undriven for several weeks and may require a jumpstart.

This sale will include owner’s manual, a toolkit, one key, a spare tire, an air pump, the original head unit, original silver Fuchs wheels, a car cover, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “I am not a dealer or collector. I just had a dream to own this car. I grew up in the 80s here in San Diego. I love sports cars. I searched for this car for almost a year to find the perfect one. I found it. This specific year for the 911 coupe is in my opinion the peak of 911 history. It still has the curves of the classic 911 and the round headlights (right before they were modernized/significantly altered), the G50 transmission, all of the top extras given the anniversary edition, that iconic whale tail that just completes it, and it drives like it should. Like it is meant to drive. I am brought back to my teenage years every time I get into the car. I accomplished my dream and now unfortunately just can't hold on to it anymore. I am sorry to see it go and hope the new owner will appreciate everything that this car is and represents.”

@WReiter none, as I indicated below, I bought it from a Mercedes dealership in 2022 who took it in from the original owner as a trade in for a new AMG. They sold it as-is and had no records.

@andrewvolk Thank you for your interest. See pics of the readings (159-177). I don't have more info, but from reading on the topic online, I see that higher readings are common with the silver metallic paint, as are fluctuations car to car and panel to panel since these cars were painted by hand.

@89Anniversary. Thank you for pointing out the leak down test done in 2022. I missed that. Thanks again

  • 89Anniversary (seller) 4 days, 11 hoursago

@Peabo In case it's helpful, I did a cylinder leakdown test when I purchased the car in August 2022. See pic #149. I did this as part of my pre-purchase inspection at a specialized mechanic in Newport Beach, close to where I purchased the car. I received their confidence in the engine which is what led me to buy the car. That confidence has since been reassured simply by driving the car, but also by my specialized mechanic and anyone with Porsche experience who has looked at the car. Bid with confidence.

  • 89Anniversary (seller) 4 days, 14 hoursago

@Peabo Thank you for your comment. The dealer told me that the multi-point inspection was on par with a PPI, which does not include a leak down and compression test. The dealer can do the leak down and compression test tomorrow but it won't be done by the time the auction ends. Even though both the dealer and my regular air-cooled specialized mechanic have given me great assurances about the car, and it drives great, I'm happy to do a compression and leak down test for the winning bidder.

  • 89Anniversary (seller) 4 days, 14 hoursago

Wanted to update everyone that the car came back from the dealer with the DEM relay fixed. Starts and drives great, as expected. I added the service record for that to the pics (197-198).

Kinda disappointed that the "PPI" doesn't include any substantive engine info. I would expect a leak down or at least a compression test. I know this has very low miles which is a great sign but it isn't assurance like good leak down numbers would be. A sympathetic visual inspection is not a legit PPI.

@amajer Thank you for your patience. The dealer (SD Porsche) completed their inspection. I uploaded the video from the inspection (please watch the new video added above), and also added the report (see photos 193-196). On the weekend, after the auction started, I had an issue starting the car so they looked at this as well. You can see on page 1 of the report (photo 193) that they are replacing a DME relay which they believe will fix the issue. The part will be in tomorrow and should be resolved by then. As for the inspection, the technician goes over the car nicely in the video. I met him in person and he shared with me an overall positive sentiment about the car. His words were "it's a clean car". The report does not include anything major/engine-related. They do recommend doing various maintenance items at their shop (and at their rates). Any work can of course be done at different rates. For example, the tires cost me $145 per tire, and alignment can vary but $100-$300 for alignment is what I would expect, while they have thousands of dollars estimated on tires and alignment alone. They also recommend a major service (at their rate of $3K) because they do not have a record of this, even though I did a major service on 8/18/22. See photo 146, the record for a major service done for $1,178 by Performance Independent Porsche, a great small classic air-cooled specialized shop here in town. Performance Independent Porsche recommended that the major service be redone every 15K miles. I did it about 6K miles ago. I asked SD Porsche if any of the items are urgent and they said that the two rear tires and brakes should naturally be replaced as part of routine maintenance. Outside of that, they said it would be smart to replace the right outer CV boot that is torn since it can prevent the need to change the axle if done sooner rather than later, following which they would prioritize the recommended wheel bearing service referenced in the report. The inspection passed without any conditions/recommendations on steering rack/linkage, suspension/bushings, struts, coils, and springs, fuel tank/cap/lines, transmission/transfer case differential, under body leaks (none found), wiper operation, battery cables/connections and front pads brake linings.

@amajer Thanks for your interest, and questions. See answers below:

    1. I did not receive any service records when I bought the car. I bought it from a Mercedes dealership that just posted it on autotrader and was selling it as is. They said the original owner traded it in for a new AMG. Given the low mileage, I can only assume it wasn't driven much during those years.
    2. I can't say that any piece is missing. Nothing seems to be missing for me. That's just how I received the car. That wiring can only be seen from a low angle under the dashboard, not while seated/driving in the car.
    3. The sunroof works perfectly. No leaking.

I added a few more videos to show how great the interior condition is. Please watch them. The car was maintained very well. Everything functions as expected. I even included a video of the sunroof opening and closing. It's one of the coolest sounds in my opinion. Solid Porsche engineering.. :-)

    Couple questions:
    1. Looking at the Carfax, car pretty much sat undriven from 2008 (maybe even 2003) to when you bought it in 2022. What is the history there?
    2. Picture 103, seeing wiring, is it missing a trim piece underneath the dash?
    3. What is the status of the sunroof? Working? Leaking?

@jrocco1971 I did remove and replace the original silver OEM fuchs that came with the car when I bought it. I am including them with the sale. I added 3 photos of them (185-187) so you can see them up close. I am also including the tires that came with the car, which I also replaced (also in the pics). The OEM fuchs were chromed, which was popular as I understand in the 80s, but does tend to flake a bit over the years. You can see that in the photos. Please let me know if you want more close-ups. I'd be happy to add more pics. While I love and retained everything else on the car in its original factory state, I do personally prefer the black fuchs on the silver body. I purchased the black fuchs from a source who confirmed that they were professionally painted original Porsche factory fuchs.

    All updated Carrera suspension.

@jackal0506 I have never sensed any issues with the suspension and therefore never felt the need to check the suspension. The car drives very well and sounds great to me. It was also driven by Porsche mechanics upon inspection/maintenance who said it drives great and never raised any concern about the suspension.

  • jackal0506 (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

Looks like a nice honest car. During the drive video the suspension is making loud noises. Have you had that diagnosed and a price for repairs? thank you
