This 1989 Porsche 964 Carrera 4 Coupe was the subject of an extensive, no-expense-spared custom restoration. It has been refinished in the historic Porsche color of Dolphin Grey and fitted with all-new trim and hardware along with 9HAUS H4 fluted headlamps, aero mirrors, RS-style brake ducts, and Kinesis three-piece forged wheels. The cabin was completely redone with black leather and vinyl upholstery and features genuine RS America cloth Sport Seats, RS-style door panels, a MOMO steering wheel, a custom shifter, aluminum Rennline accessories, and a completely rebuilt HVAC system. A top-end engine and transmission rebuild was also performed and included an upgraded Steve Wong performance chip, an FVD cat-bypass, a Fabspeed muffler delete and carbon fiber airbox, Patrick Motorsports lower valve covers, and more. An uncompromising build carried out with obsessive attention to detail, this 964 is now being offered for auction by its owner out of South Carolina.

Under the seller’s ownership, this 964 was stripped to bare metal and treated to a full glass-out respray in the classic 1960s Porsche color of Dolphin Grey (Z99), which is currently available as part of the Paint to Sample catalog. It was customized with new 9HAUS fluted headlamps, RS-style front brake ducts, and new OEM power aero mirrors. The car rides on new 18” Kinesis K58 three-piece forged alloy wheels measuring 8.5” wide in front and 10” wide in the rear. The seller notes that all body seals and gaskets were replaced with new OEM pieces during the restoration including new window, door, and sunroof seals. A new OEM glass windshield was also installed along with a new Euro-spec rear window without a wiper or third brake light. Other restoration items included the installation of a new Porsche hood crest, new OEM amber turn signal lenses, a new sunroof motor, new OEM taillights and gaskets, a new rear spoiler motor, and new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires sized 235/40 in front and 265/35 in the rear. The seller adds that the full exterior was preserved with XPEL ceramic coating and a layer of front-end paint protection film after the new paint was fully cured. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin has been completely redone with all-new black vinyl and leather upholstery and features a set of genuine power-operated RS America cloth Sport Seats as well as new lightweight RS-style carpeting and RS-style door panels with red nylon pull straps. Other additions include re-webbed OEM seatbelts in red, a new MOMO Mod 07 Black Edition suede steering wheel, a Singer-style leather Porsche crest horn button, a new Swine11 ReBoot shifter kit, a Built by Basil custom one-off skateboard deck shift knob, aluminum Rennline track mats and pedal covers, and a wrinkle black powder-coated Dassport bolt-in roll bar. The restoration also included a replacement OEM black center console and rear deck cover, new window regulators and switches, a new Continental Bluetooth head unit with new Cerwin Vega speakers, a new Bergvill F/X ISO audio harness, and a completely rebuilt HVAC system with a new evaporator core and “suitcase” with new servos and ancillary parts.

Power comes from an air-cooled 3.6-liter M64 flat-six engine paired with a 5-speed G50 manual transmission. Under previous ownership, a top-end engine and transmission rebuild was completed at 124k miles by Autometrics Charleston. More recently, a new OEM crankshaft seal was installed along with new upper and lower valve cover gaskets, oil pressure sender O-rings, front CV axles, rear CV boots, and a new O2 sensor and spacer. The engine was also upgraded with a Fabspeed carbon fiber airbox and RS-styler heater duct, Patrick Motorsports lower valve covers, a Steve Wong 93 octane performance chip and a custom exhaust featuring an FVD stainless-steel cat-bypass, a Fabspeed stainless-steel primary muffler delete, an FVD stainless-steel exhaust tip, and a Sleepers Speed Shop titanium heater bypass which retains use of the heater while eliminating the unsightly rear blower. The engine bay was also cleaned and freshened with newly painted parts and a Padkeeper engine sound pad support.

This sale will include a toolkit, a spare tire, an air pump, extensive service records, and a clean title. The CARFAX report shows a mileage discrepancy in 1991 which is believed to have resulted from a clerical error.

The seller would like you to know: I treat all my restomods as if I'm planning on keeping them forever. I pour my heart and soul into my projects, and I don't stop until they're 100%.  Unfortunately for me (and fortunately for you!), it's the build process that I love, and once a car is complete, I typically yearn for another new project.”

Sorry to see this beauty leave the Greenville area - will be missed at Carreras and Coffee - but i'm sure the seller will have something nice to replacement it with! The buyer here is getting a fantastic 911.

The seller of this car has an attention to detail that is second to none. Whoever wins her today will be extremely happy when this car rolls off the transport truck or when they pick it up for a roundtrip home. I have known the seller for quite sometime and every car that he puts time into never has a stone unturned. He is meticulous with any car regardless of what it is, he strives to create perfection. and this is the perfect 964 c4.

I am a bit jealous of whoever wins this car today as it is the most sorted modified 964 c4 to pop up for sale in a long time. opportunities like this do not come up often.

I will be cheering for everyone involved over next 30 minutes as this auction comes to a close :)

@Duwerke - Do you have any additional details about the engine rebuild and transmission rebuild? In your documents is there any info listed on what was performed? Thank you.

  • Duwerke (seller) 5 months, 4 weeksago

@Cherche-pepite I would only be speculating if I were to claim a specific hp number. FVD has a claim for their bypass on their website ( https://tinyurl.com/FVD-964-cat-bypass ) as does Fabspeed for their cup pipe ( https://www.fabspeed.com/porsche-964-carrera-primary-muffler-bypass-pipe/ ) and the Steve Wong chip is supposed to optimize the car for those specific mods on 93 octane, however they don't provide any hp claims for this specific chip on a C4 ( https://www.911chips.com/c2chips.html ).

Although I don't know numbers on paper, I don't believe that's important to the air-cooled experience. I've driven boring 500hp cars and insanely fun 160hp cars, as there's so much more that contributes to the driving experience. I can tell you that this car is an absolute riot to drive on back roads as you can see in the 2+ minutes recorded in the gallery, and all these mods were all chosen to work well together and enhance the power band in the most meaningful way. In addition to the longer driving video, here's a quick acceleration video: https://photos.app.goo.gl/7phNYwqHZ3qFDjiHA

I hope this response better answers your questions.

  • Cherche-pepite (registered bidder) 5 months, 4 weeksago

@Duwerke Thanks, but I was hopeful to learn what those engine tweaks might have added to the base hp.

  • CartBeforeHorse (registered bidder) 5 months, 4 weeksago

Wanted to backup what the seller is saying about the exhaustive AC work he’s put into the car. I knew he planned to sell the car (against my advice..he should keep it). I was then surprised to see this car a few weeks ago at our local specialist shop. They told me he asked for the evap core to be replaced. That’s a giant pita on these cars and not usually an investment many people would make on a car they were selling. Most people would just recharge the AC system and sell it. Unfortunately there may still be a whacky servo that isn’t opening a flap correctly (or something like that) but he’s put the hard work and money into making the AC great…just like the rest of the car.

  • Duwerke (seller) 6 monthsago

@Cherche-pepite rated at 247 by Porsche, plus the exhaust upgrades and steve wong chip.

  • Cherche-pepite (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

Gorgeous build! What do you know or estimate the hp to be?

@Spiker_911 Hey there, thanks for the message and bid. I hope you don't mind, but I'd like to post this reply publicly as well so anyone else with these questions also gets the answers. Motor is tight and right, no smoke on start up whatsoever, no leaks present. Top end was rebuilt some years back and it's only covered about 13k miles since then. I experienced some minor oil weeping under my ownership as every air-cooled owner will, ended up just being the oil pressure sender o rings and the crankshaft seal, both of which have been replaced and I can identify zero leaks at this time. Oil return tubes, cylinder base gaskets, chain covers and upper and lower VCs are all bone dry. All those underbody pics in the gallery were taken after a full day mountain drive with no cleaning performed for transparency. HVAC does blow hot and cold right now, but it is finicky as most of these cars are. I've been replacing component after component as each servo has failed and the evap core (massive job requiring gas tank and suitcase removal) was just replaced with new and recharged. Can't promise HVAC will be perfect, but most of the big stuff has been addressed (to the tune of a few thousand in receipts). I also have two new oem front to back hardlines (about $500 each) that I have not had time to put in but can be included in the sale for future use. I plan on getting some videos done momentarily including a cold start and longer drive with a passenger to record, so stay tuned. Hope this answered all you asked.

@Stevencp thank you! I appreciate the kind words, and yes this car feels immaculate in the nearby mountains. The suspension and alignment setting are dialed.

  • Stevencp 6 monthsago

Great Hot Rod! Bet it hugs the road! Well done!!

  • Duwerke (seller) 6 monthsago

@rmw as it should be! ...but really it's only averaged 4k miles a year at this age and now everything is new or newer.

  • rmw (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

Wow that's some serious miles! Drove it like a Camry

  • JBCH (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

    Can we more videos?

  • djhuska 6 monthsago

This 964 is even more stunning in person as it is in pictures. A real head turning for sure. I’ve enjoyed this 911 as sweet eye candy many times in person and can tell you it’s amazing and it’s absolutely immaculate. The winner of this car will be one lucky driver.

  • Duwerke (seller) 6 monthsago

@gfcollins911 not sure if you did this or not, but if you tap the video, there is sound. That's what the exhaust sounds like at 3-4k rpm inside the cockpit. All the air-cooled mechanical goodness and just enough growl. I'll get a cold start vid and some others done in coming days too.

  • gfcollins911 (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

@seller Thanks for the link to the driving video. Would still love to hear that hear that exhaust if you can find a way to post it.

  • Duwerke (seller) 6 monthsago

@gfcollins911 I'm not sure how to add video to the actual listing, but here's a link to a brief driving video from last week: https://photos.app.goo.gl/iPxZu2qQFfE5jjiv8

  • Duwerke (seller) 6 monthsago

@prl I can certainly take some pics under the frunk carpet. I cannot take pics of the floors under the mats without hassle as the car has rennline track mats bolted in in lieu of the OEM foam that is always falling apart. I've been as intimate with this chassis as one can get and I assure you this has zero signs of ever being in an accident. The car was original single stage when I bought it with the exception of the front bumper and sideskirts. Not sure what you mean by pics of the boot underneath aside from what's already in the gallery. I can also assure you the car does not retain original bushings at this chassis mileage. Anything that needed replacement got done, anything that was fine was left alone. Suspension is very tight, drives immaculate.

  • Duwerke (seller) 6 monthsago

    @gfcollins911 I will upload a driving video momentarily :)

Exhaust sounds perfect when pushed with the fvd cat bypass and fabspeed primary delete, retaining the stock secondary muffler keeps it subtle when you aren't on it

  • prl (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

Also pictures of the boot underneath would be great. How are the ball joints? Looks like a lot of original bushings on the car.

  • prl (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

Can u pull the trunk carpet and take some pictures? Wanted to see the condition of the subframe rails, also pictures of under the floor mays with the removable foam out? Thank you.

  • gfcollins911 (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

Beautiful build! Could we get a driving video and especially a video with sound of the exhaust?

  • Duwerke (seller) 6 monthsago

@Upshift4 car was originally black over tan

  • Duwerke (seller) 6 monthsago

@Dwkpcar89 thank you, bumpers and skirts are original to the car. Only modification is I had the factory front plate holes filled during repaint.

  • Duwerke (seller) 6 monthsago

@Upshift4 rebuilt and powdercoated red stock C4 calipers, Bilstein adjustable suspension

  • Dwkpcar89 6 monthsago

Stunning build!!! Can you please share where you picked up the front and rear bumpers as well as the side skirts?

  • Upshift4 (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

Suspension and brake details? What was the original color?

  • chuckent (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

I have seen the car locally a few times, and have to say it is one of the best sorted 964's I have ever seen.

  • CBA 6 monthsago

@Copper928S I don’t know him or you…… regardless you have no business airing that here. It has nothing to do with the value or this car or the workman ship.

  • CartBeforeHorse (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

The seller is a significant event organizer for the Carolinas Porsche region. I remember when he was still trying to decide the fine details of this build. Rest assured he put a lot of thought and planning into this and he reached out to the best help in our area when he needed it. This car has been obsessed over and it clearly shows. I’m astounded he’s selling this car and I’ve already tried to talk him out of doing so. The buyer here will have something very special.
