Up for auction is this 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe finished in Slate Grey Metallic over a Linen and black partial leather interior.  Marking the final year of the G-Series 911 Carrera, this 1989 Coupe was sold new from Reeves Import Motor Cars of Florida with factory optional front and rear spoilers as well as a shortened gear shift lever for the 5-speed G50 manual gearbox.  It has also received a host of upgrades including 930 Turbo brakes, Dansk sport exhaust, a 917-style shift knob, Steve Wong performance chip, Momo steering wheel, 17” Fuchs-style wheels, and more.  This Carrera was acquired by the current owner about 15 months ago after being serviced with a new clutch, fuel pump, oil lines, engine sensors, and ignition components. Accompanied by the original window sticker and service records dating back to the 1990s, this beautifully appointed Carrera is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Southern California showing approximately 135k miles on the odometer.

This 911 comes finished in Slate Grey Metallic, an optional extra-cost color first offered for the Carrera in the 1989 model year.  Front and rear spoiler are equipped from the factory and 17” Fuchs-style Euromeister wheels have been equipped and dressed in a set of Continental Extreme Contact tires.  Black stone guards are applied ahead of the rear wheels and the seller reports several small imperfections throughout the exterior, additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, you will find a Linen and black partial leather interior featuring an upgraded Momo Prototipo steering wheel, 917-style wooden shift knob, vintage Coco floormats, aluminum Rennline pedals, and a new Continental radio.  The driver-side power window motor was recently replaced under the current ownership along with a recharge of the A/C system. The front seats have been reupholstered and the factory specifications label on the underside of the hood lists the following equipment codes:

  • 158 – Blaupunkt Reno SQR 45
  • 243 – Shorter Shift Lever
  • 454 – Cruise Control
  • 473 – Front and Rear Spoilers
  • 490 – Sound System
  • 494 - Amplifier
  • 650 – Sunroof

This final-year Carrera is equipped with an air-cooled 3.2L flat-six engine paired with a 5-speed G50 manual transmission.  As much as 217 HP stock is sent to the rear wheels while stopping power comes from upgraded 930 Turbo brakes.  A Steve Wong performance chip and upgraded Dansk sport muffler have been installed, and the factory catalytic converter remains in place.  Service carried out just before the current owner's purchase includes new oil lines, a new camshaft sensor, speed reference sensor, fuel pump, engine pad, spark plugs, and distributor cap and rotor as well as a new clutch, fork, and throw-out bearing. More recent services carried out under the current ownership include new engine mounts, throttle bellcrank bushings, breather cover gaskets, a new alternator, and oil pressure switch.  A corresponding invoice is provided in the gallery along with a sampling of the service records accompanying the sale. A recent engine compression test is said to have yielded the following results across the corresponding cylinders:

  • 1-175
  • 2-180
  • 3-180
  • 4-170
  • 5-175
  • 6-180

This sale will include service records, the original window sticker, and a clean title.  Well-equipped from the factory and tastefully customized with high-end upgrades, this final-year Carrera G50 makes an excellent choice for any discerning air-cooled driving enthusiast.

  • CocoThunder (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@rrahban Since the car is currently registered and should have no trouble passing smog again, not to mention that CA law requires it, is it safe to assume that you’ll be performing the required smog check prior to the completion of the sale to a CA buyer?

  • rrahban (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@CocoThunder Good Morning. The car is currently registered in CA and passed Smog on 9/2/20 as seen on the Carfax. Should have no issue passing again!

  • CocoThunder (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Will a current smog certificate be provided for a CA buyer?

  • rrahban (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@jh986s Yes the backs are standard length

  • rrahban (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@jh986s they were like that when I purchased the car. I was told it looks more aggressive and sporty.

  • jh986s (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

the front studs on both wheels seem to be of the extended length, any reason why? the back must have the standard length ?

  • rrahban (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@Outlaw69 hi. There are no signs of any leaks or stains on the headliner. The tear is more like a cut not deterioration. The sunroof seals haven’t been changed under my ownership but I have driven in several days of continuous pouring rain and never had any visible moisture. As for the drain holes, don’t know where they even are, so haven’t cleaned them :)

I will try to get you a close up of the headliner tear.

  • Outlaw69 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@rrahban can you please comment on the tear and possible leaks/staining in the headliner? Do you know if the sunroof seals and drain holes have been replaced and cleaned? Thanks!

Woohoo! have this cars identical twin. Except with a rebuilt motor and black interior! I paid 65 this last November! If the market is 95k+! I’m all in!

  • Mnoah21 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@Aircooldude Because this is a gorgeous GBody with everything one could ask for. Looks like it drives great and even if you factor 10-15k for a top end it’s with $75+ in this market all day. I’ve seen cars 1/2 as nice with same miles bring $80. Haven’t seen as sexy a Carrera in awhile. With top end you will easily get $85-90 IMO.

  • Aircooldude 2 years, 3 monthsago

@downshifts right! Mnoah21 you know the motor is original right? No rebuild or top end work. Top end work alone is 10k minimum…

  • downshifts 2 years, 3 monthsago

@Mnoah21 why you gotta go and bid +$20k with 4 days left?

  • Mnoah21 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Stunning color combo. One of my favorite Porsche’s made.

  • rrahban (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@UpNorthMN i dont fill more than every 1000 miles. The leaks are min but if I dont drive it for a few days it will leave a oil mark on the ground

  • UpNorthMN 2 years, 3 monthsago

Bid in the amount of $20,911

  • UpNorthMN (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@rrahban thanks for the answers. Do you have any sense for how much oil it's consuming? A quart every 500 or 1,000 miles? Also, are the oil leaks you mentioned just getting the case damp or do you have oil dripping on the floor after every drive? Thanks again.

  • rrahban (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@UpNorthMN shifts very smooth. I’ve driven both the 915 and G50 transmission and personally I love the G50 transmission. It’s so smooth. I own a 930 and kinda hate the shifting.

As for oil consumption, I put a quart of oil every few months. Don’t have a long commute. There is a little leaking at front and rear main seals.

    Hope that helps

  • UpNorthMN (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Very nice Carrera. Could you tell us:

How much oil is it consuming at this time?
    Any leaks?
Does it shift up and down through the gears without hesitation?

    Thanks!

  • rrahban (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@Folcat33 honestly not sure. The Carfax probably has the best history

  • rrahban (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@Outlaw69 thanks. Love this color with the linen interior. So many black, reds and whites. In preparation I checked with a painter and some of the panels appear to have been painted. Nicely done though.

  • Outlaw69 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Presume original paint? My favorite PCar color.

  • rrahban (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@rjohnstonstl thank you. I bought the car with the 17” after market. So I don’t have the original wheels.

  • rrahban (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@jh986s Hi. No top end has been done. Honestly the car drives amazing, pulls hard and has power as you can see if the video. No smoke and compressions are good. That being said I’m sure it will be needed at some point. I have been of the school of doing things based on performance and I felt it drove well for now.

  • rjohnstonstl (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Looks incredibly clean. Are the original wheels available?

  • jh986s (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Great looking G-body. Engine has not been split ? No top end rebuild? Will be watching intently to this auction.

  • Folcat33 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Fantastic looking G body…how many owners?

  • rrahban (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Hello Everyone! Excited to share my G50. Sad to see her go but I am sure the next owner will enjoy the car as much as me. Feel free to ask me what ever questions and I will do my best to reply. Happy Bidding!
