Offered for the 1989 model year only, the 911 Speedster remains one of the rarest and most collectible air-cooled cars of all time, with styling inspired by the original 356 Speedster of the 1950s. One of only 823 examples to have been delivered for the U.S. market, this Speedster was sold new at Bo Willis Porsche, Georgia, finished in Guards Red over black leather. It was also factory-optioned with a short-shift gear lever, power-adjustable Sport Seats, a rear storage compartment, air conditioning, and an alarm system. Accompanied by a window sticker and a host of service documentation dating back to 2005, this iconic Speedster is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Pennsylvania with approximately 136k miles on the odometer.
The Speedster is characterized by its short, steeply-raked aluminum-framed windscreen and signature double-hump tonneau cover which conceals the retractable black soft top. Finished in Guards Red, this example left the factory with the wide bodywork of the 911 Turbo model. It rides on 16” Fuchs wheels dressed in Yokohama A052 tires. The seller notes a small dent of the driver’s side fender between the gas door and side view mirror, minor signs of road wear are present on the front bumper, and a chip on the driver’s side mirror has been touched up. The paint is said to remain original apart from the fuel filler door. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
Inside, the driver is situated within a black partial leather interior with optional power-adjustable Sport Seats. The front seats are positioned lower in the Speedster model to accommodate the lower roofline and a luggage compartment is equipped in place of the rear seats. Additional factory options include a steering wheel with a raised hub, a shorter gear shift lever, a Blaupunkt Charleston radio, air conditioning, and an alarm system. The seller notes minor wear including light signs of usage on the driver’s seat left bolster.
This 1989 Speedster is equipped with an air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine paired with a G50 5-speed manual transmission that sends as much as 217 HP to the rear wheels. Corresponding with its wide fenders, the Speedster also shares the same brakes and suspension setup with the 930 Turbo model. The seller notes that notable service items include a valve adjustment and new start motor installed in October 2015, front brake pads, rotors, and sensors replaced in June 2018, rubber oil lines replaced, a full engine service (oil service and replacements to the cap and rotor, spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter & belts, with valve adjustments and gear oil changed in October 2019, an oil service, new battery installed, and brake & clutch systems flushed in June 2021, and oil service, leak down & compression test, and brake & clutch systems flushed in September 2023. A host of service documentation dating back to 2005 is said to accompany the sale.
This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a window sticker, a toolkit, and some service documentation.

The Speedster comes with its original window sticker that shows it was purchased at Bo Willis Porsche in Macon, GA. It also comes with the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity that shows the standard US Emissions equipment. This vehicle has been well maintained and cared for since new. It’s a great opportunity to own an iconic limited production air cooler Porsche 911 Carrera Speedster. I appreciate all the interest and questions.
It is kind of a difficult task to put up/take down the top for one person.... but it can be done with practice. I owned a 1989 Speedster for 23 years & I sold it for a ton after 21k miles. The process goes like this. Behind the driver seat there is a pull cable to release the clam shell & a window crank that also releases the clam shell. Then you lift the clam shell at the front & it hinges back revealing the top. Then you pull the top UP & forward to connect to the front windshield. Then you pull the clam shell forward back in place to latch back down it a fixed position. Then you move the top back & clip it under the back of the clam shell & also snap it on the side buttons. Then your final move is to move the other window crank to a down position & it tightens up the top & clam shell. Hope this helps.

@JoeFab this is not a ROW car. All Porsches of this era have ZZZ stamped in the front hood. They stamped the assigned VIN to the actual chassis before designating its country of origin. The stamps in the A-pillar and door show "EB0" which means
E - 911 SC TARGA/CABRIO, 3.2, TARGA/CABRIO/SPEEDSTER
B - 911 3.2
0 - NO AIRBAGS
Interesting car. European ROW Vin# ZZZ in stamped in the chassis . Usa rear bumpers and European amber turn signal lenses. No front fender side marker turn signals and 135K miles. Wind up windows . Car looks clean . I had a cabriolet might need this one. Wish it had under 40k miles .

Narrow body speedsters were made, but were less popular. It’s been a long time since I looked at the actual production numbers, but I have never seen a narrow body 89 Speedster in person.
normcairs, The convertible top on the Speedster along with the hard clamshell cover are both operated manually. The Speedster comes with a supplement owner’s manual that covers the top function. It’s easy and reliable just like the concept of the Speedster itself.
I'm sorry for my ignorance. I've never actually seen a car like this. How does the convertible top work? It looks as though it does not just rise up with a button or something like that. Does the top have to be attached to the body by hand?
Question for anyone: Do all speedsters for this year come with the wide body Turbo look?

Absolutely an appreciating classic. The wonderful aspect of this particular example is that it's been DRIVEN! Not to excess (roughly 4k miles/yr by my calculation); but it wasn't just stored away somewhere to dry out. You've all heard this before I'm sure ... Porsches are meant to be driven. Otherwise, what's the point in owing one? GLWS.
Italus2, Thank you for the question. The Speedster is up to date with all its services to date based on mileage and time. In September of this year it had the following: It passed the Pa State Safety Inspection : which includes all suspension components , brake and clutch systems, exhaust system, lighting, wipers, heater and defrost systems checked and passed . Also at that time the engine oil and filter service was done (we cut the oil filter open to check for debris) No debris was found, flushed the clutch and brake systems (this is done every 2 years) The Speedster also had a major engine service in October 2019 with 135,009 miles less than 1,000 miles ago. This included : Valve adjustment, air and fuel filters, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, belts replaced and the transmission gear oil changed. The Speedster has been well cared for and is ready to drive .

These are iconic Porsches and they haven't even hit their stride yet with collectors. I prefer drivers and if I didn't already have a Speedster, this would be at the top of my list. Love the sport seats on this car.
