Produced for one year only and limited to 2,065 examples worldwide, the 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster pays homage to the classic 356 Speedster model with a short, steeply raked windscreen and a unique double-bubble rear tonneau cover. This Guards Red example is one of 823 sold in the United States and showcases a custom Strosek bodykit, racing-style bucket seats, Bilstein coilovers, and 993 Turbo brakes as well as a rebuilt 3.6-liter motor and a G50 5-speed gearbox that were installed by S-Car-Go Racing of San Rafael in January 2023. This one-of-a-kind 911 Speedster is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

This Speedster is said to have received a professionally installed Strosek bodykit including modified bumpers, widened fenders, a body-color rear wing, a 993-style taillight panel, Aero mirrors, and Strosek’s signature mini projector headlights. The body conversion and Guards Red paintwork are said to have been completed after the car was repaired from an accident, and the CARFAX report shows a salvage title issued by the state of California in 1993. This Speedster rides on aftermarket 18” Fikse wheels finished in Black with Sumitomo tires "2021". The seller indicates a removable body-colored hardtop will also accompany the car. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The 911 Speedster came with a lightweight interior devoid of power windows, rear seats, air conditioning, or a radio. The black leather interior of this Speedster has been customized with white-faced instrument dials, red door pull straps, and a pair of racing-style bucket seats with Guards Red painted shells. A three-spoke RS-style steering wheel has also been installed along with aluminum door lock knobs and gauge bezels, a silver-colored center console, a Guards Red instrument panel, and a shifter and brake handle with aluminum inlays.

Power comes from a rebuilt flat-six motor which has been upgraded to a 3.6-liter displacement using 993 pistons, cylinders, and crankshaft as well as 964 cams and ported/polished heads. The engine is said to have been rebuilt and installed by S-Car-Go Racing in January 2023 within the last 500 miles along with a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox. The car also features upgraded Porsche 993 Turbo brakes and Bilstein coilover suspension at the front and rear. Invoices are said to be available for the recent engine and gearbox installation.

This sale will include a clean Texas title and some service records.

The seller would like you to know: This factory Porsche 911 Speedster is an original California car that has had a Strosek body kit professionally installed. The modifications include custom fenders, flares, wing, and interior mods. A freshly rebuilt, 3.6L motor and G50 5-speed gearbox were installed in January 2023 by S-Car-Go Racing in San Rafael,CA.  The body gaps are even and the panels are very straight, The exterior color is the original red that has been refinished and looks factory new. The black leather interior which features the Strosek-type racing seats, is pristine as is the dash and the rest of the interior. The soft top is black cloth and shows little wear, a hard top is also included. Please note the car currently carries a clean Texas title. The odometer shows 16480 miles, but the total mileage is unknown. The car has recently passed California emissions.”

It's possible to wash titles by registering them in more lenient states. Not saying that's what the seller did, but I know people who have.

It doesn't matter what the Title says at the end of the day. The car was written off and shows it on the Carfax

  • norcalcarnut (seller) 9 months, 2 weeksago

@closingtime The car has a clean Texas title

  • Hi (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

if this vehicle has a clean Texas Title I don't see why Califonia DMV would issue a rebuild or salvage title nonsense in my experience

  • closingtime (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

I sold a salvage titled car last year and lost money on it. It's a pita selling them. Very small market and then this car has an unoriginal engine, unoriginal paint, unoriginal body kit, TMU, and was written off, etc.

  • Kato (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

@norcalcarnut not according to what I've ready but I honestly don't know either way. If this started as a factory widebody, even better as far as I'm concerned. 171 narrow bodies according to this source: https://www.supercars.net/blog/ultimate-guide-to-the-porsche-speedster/

@Kato Regarding your question All 89 Speedsters like this car are Turbo widebody. The narrow body is a 964 which was produced later

  • norcalcarnut (seller) 9 months, 2 weeksago

@closingtime Hi and thanks for your comments. I do not have any way to prove that it is an authentic Strosek kit but several experts that have seen the car and that have worked on Strosek body cars believe it is. The body is all metal except for the engine cover and wing. The car does not have a salvage title but if brought into Ca it might In my humble opinion as a body shop owner and restorer that has worked on many Pebble beach cars the paint quality exceeds “driver quality”

  • Kato (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

Yes, can you please elaborate on the Stroseknkit this is based on? No details online of anything like this ever built by Strosek. Perhaps Anzianos custom made it in Strosek style? Also, was this a narrow body Speedster to start? Is the kit steel or fiberglass? G50 rebuilt or original? More information would be amazing so we can all fairly evaluate the car! :)

  • closingtime (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

@norcalcarnut Anzianos Body Shop (sticker in the engine bay) built a number of custom Strosek inspired Speedsters, so this kit is most likely not an authentic Strosek body kit. Also, from what I have seen, Strosek kits have a round vented side skirt.

I think the car is cool, but I'm also into weird vehicles from the 80's/90's. Have to take into account that it's a Salvage titled, True Mileage Unknown car with a non-authentic body kit and driver's quality paint job.

  • norcalcarnut (seller) 9 months, 3 weeksago

@Userapatel Hi and thanks for your comment
The car is located in San Rafael Ca. I have inspected the car and do not find any critical frame damage. I have included under car photos that show some pan distortion that was likely be caused by improper lifting
I also included photos of front inner structure that show no indication of prior damage I have no problem with independent inspection

  • Userapatel (registered bidder) 9 months, 3 weeksago

I think the car looks awesome but can't understand why they would do this to a speedster of all cars.

Has the frame been looked at? I live in Texas and they don't look at the at all for anything safety related. First I've ever seen a salvaged car having a clean title even moving states. That usually follows the car for life. Is the car in Texas or Ca?

  • norcalcarnut (seller) 9 months, 3 weeksago

  • norcalcarnut (seller) 9 months, 3 weeksago

@mdersr Hello. We believe the body kit was installed after the accident in order to repair the cosmetic damage and make it a driving car. We do not have any invoices for that repair or even know the extent of the damage from that accident To be accurate the car currently has a clean Texas title. If the car was registered and titled in California it might be issued a salvage title.

  • mdersr (registered bidder) 9 months, 3 weeksago

Hi do you have any pictures or repair estimate from the damage that resulted in the salvage title.
And do you know if the Strosek body kit was put on as a result of that or done prior to the accident ?

@JoeFab Hi Joe thanks for your interest. This car has A 1989 3.2 motor that was not originally from this car it was rebuilt to 3.6 specs by SCarGo racing in San Rafael Ca Invoices avail. The injection system is correct for the 89 Speedster and it passes Ca emissions. We do not have any original body parts

  • JoeFab (registered bidder) 9 months, 3 weeksago

The engines Fuel injection systems as displayed is from a 1984 to 1989 3.2 liter Carrera . You mention 3.6 liter engine conversion . It appears as stock. Do you have the original fenders and body kit parts?
