It is our pleasure to offer this 1989 Porsche 930 Turbo Slant Nose in Grand Prix White. Representing the final iteration of the 930 Turbo and the only model year to feature the 5-speed G50 manual transmission, this 911 was ordered at an original sticker price of over $116k equipped with the M505 Slant Nose package and a special color-to-sample Marine Blue leather interior. Approximately 600 U.S. specification 930 Cabriolets were produced for 1989, of which only 75 were reportedly fitted with the M505 Slant Nose option. Sporting a striking color combination and benefiting from a full rebuild of its turbocharged flat-six engine, this outstanding Slant Nose Cabriolet is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California while showing just over 34k miles on the odometer.

This Turbo is finished in Grand Prix White with a Marine Blue cabriolet soft top, and features factory handcrafted Slant Nose bodywork including flat vented front fenders, pop-up headlights, boxed rocker panels, and distinctive side air intakes.  Other details include a front valence with integrated fog lights and a rubber spoiler, U.S. market bumperettes, and dual black exhaust tips. The seller notes that the full exterior was refinished several years ago to address stone chips and that the left front fender was refinished once more to correct a scratch, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX and paint depth report. This Turbo rides on factory 16” Fuchs wheels with white painted centers and Pirelli P Zero tires which were mounted within the last two years and bear approximately 100 miles of use.

Inside, you will find a special color-to-sample Marine Blue full leather interior.  Some slight creasing is depicted on the driver’s seat, and the seller notes all gauges, lights, and accessories remain functional including the power seats, power windows, radio, and air conditioning.  Options codes listed on the factory specifications label include the following:

  • 494 – Amplifier
  • 505 – Slant Nose, USA
  • 691 – CD Radio CD-radio Alpine Porsche CD-2

This 930 carries an air-cooled 3.3L flat-six engine rated 282 HP and 289 lb.-ft of torque.  Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a sought-after G50 5-speed manual transmission, which provides much smoother gear changes and a more manageable rev range compared to the earlier 4-speed units.  The seller notes that a correct-type replacement engine has been fitted and was subjected to a full rebuild by Trophy Performance in 2016 with less than 300 miles driven since. The G50 gearbox is also said to have been previously rebuilt and a corresponding invoice for the engine work is provided in the gallery along with images of the chassis and drivetrain stampings.

This sale will include a clean title, service records a spare tire and two sets of keys. Sporting exceptionally rare specifications, this Turbo Cabriolet is ready to be driven and displayed by a new owner.

Many kind thanks for all the emails and calls, they are very much appreciated, yes, for clarification as posted earlier this morning, the car easily passed a California Smog test yesterday.

All California bidders are welcome to bid without restriction.

    Best of luck to all,

Good morning and welcome to magic day when in just a few hours, this auction will come to an end and this Porsche will be in the hands of her very fortunate new custodian!

I have several last minute updates but first my thanks to XRD and Autosonlyhighline for you many bids. I wish you and all of the bidders the very best of luck!

A little over 125 miles have been added to this Porsche over the past week. Total original mileage is now 34,246. There are no additional inspections or test drives schedule and that is likely to be the total mileage when the car is delivered to her new owner.

Yesterday after inspections and test drives were finished, I took the car and got a new California Smog Certification. All California bidders are warmly welcome and encouraged of course to bid as much as they wish.

I am uploading a few more photos and they should be in the gallery shortly.

Kind regards and my thanks always,

Many thanks RadRacer for your bid... I love it!

Some of the requested photos from yesterday are now up in the gallery. I am not sure why all of them did not post. I will reach out to PCAR now and see the rest get posted.

A reminder the car is out today for inspections leaving just a small window of opportunity if anyone wishes a final, last minute inspection or test drive.

Good afternoon everyone… …I have several updates to go over with many requests for new photos.

Regarding the cigarette lighter, it works perfectly and likely has never been used before today. The ash tray likewise does not appear to have ever had anything in it. Photos of both are being sent to PCAR for posting to the gallery.

Mike T, I found your notes when you came to see the car and I texted a picture of them to you as well as the requested photos of the pedal rubber. The pedal rubber shows zero wear of any kind and appear showroom new. These new photos are also being sent to PCAR for posting to the gallery.

Regarding the special order "Marine Blue" leather and vinyl, I have taken the requested photos and they too will be posted to the gallery shortly.

The "Marine Blue” was added to many areas as noted in the Porsche internal assembly records. Both the steering wheel and horn button are covered in it with stitching that is clearly hand done. Seatbelt stalks, console and center areas are all covered in either “Marine Blue” leather or in vinyl. Essentially most of the areas that are always just plain black have been given the “Marine Blue” treatment. It does not strike you as being very different until you compare it to a regular production car and then it is quite obvious how much extra time was spent on the interior.

A German client helped with a better translation of the descriptions of the special ordered items:

Z-Code 07153 was the special order / special request for:
-Four Spoke Steering Wheel in “Marine Blue Leather”
-Horn Button with Porsche label/lettering in “Marine Blue”
-Console and switch housing for heating controls in “Marine Blue”
    -Brake Lever in “Marine Blue”
-Center control area in “Marine Blue”
-Seat belt stocks and area in “Marine Blue”

Tomorrow the car will be out for inspections and a smog test. I am available to assist with additional photo requests as well as inspections and test drive.

Given all the recent driving and the driving that will take place tomorrow, I will also get an update photo of the odometer.

Let me know how else I can assist,

    Bill

-Switches and controls in “Marine Blue”

    Continued from previous comment:

All of these details are contained formally, in writing on the original Porsche assembly records and not open for interpretation of any kind. If you had taken a moment to actually read them, you would have seen this immediately.

As for the mileage, once again, the car is sold with true actual mileage of 34,119 which is documented from new by both service records, un-interrupted registration records and a clean CarFax that further confirms ownership, mileage, registration and service dates.

If this Porsche did not have true mileage, we would not be selling it as such. Furthermore, I don’t know why you would think this Porsche did not go to Puerto Rico? While a COA will have near zero details on such things, the Porsche ordering details and assembly records fully confirm this.

After completion in the Spring of 1989 the car was shipped to the Port of Newark and then overland to Miami for marine delivery to Puerto Rico. The car was sold new later that year to an unknown owner but was then offered for sale by Motor Car Gallery in St. Louis, Missouri in the fall of 1989 and each and every moment of the car’s life thereafter is fully documented up until the present.

As for BaT vs PCARMARKET, my preference is usually to sell my special vehicles via my friends a BaT simply because I have been working with them for 15 plus years, however they are completely inundated and I already have four cars in their line up waiting to go live. The lead time for a BaT auction is upwards of 90 plus days.

Our friends at PCARMARKET are far more flexible and accommodating and they are able to process and start an Exclusive Auction in a matter of days rather than months.

I suggest you both do a little bit of checking before typing going forward rather than just trying to torpedo this auction.

If you actually had genuine concerns you could have taken the time to use the messaging button to reach me directly.

I have zero time to try and sell a vehicle above its own basic merits. I have learned very well from my many mistakes over the past 30 plus years that the a car sells itself. My only job is to make it available with full and complete disclosures up front, first and always. The car then sells itself for whatever the buyer is willing to pay.

    Very respectfully,

    Bill Noon

  • Bill_Noon (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    Good morning LP500S & JMS935,

PCAR’s commenting format limits the amount of characters per message, so this one will be a two-part one.

You are correct, the M504 & M505 “Flachbau” or “Slant Nose” options codes were regular production options and they did not require the car to be ordered or built through any special program. The same can be said for “Marine Blue” interior which is a standard color and requires no special request to obtain it.

This particular Porsche was however different and it was in fact special ordered as such through the “Sonderwunsch” department but not for the reasons you might think.

After the purchase of this Porsche by our company, we were able to obtain the original Porsche internal assembly records and ordering details. The initial order for this Porsche came in the form of a Telex dated 01/21/1988 from “Messrs SJ Porsche Distributors” which was at the time the newly formed and now defunct Puerto Rico Porsche distributor in San Juan.

The order was accepted and initiated a request for production by the authorized Porsche agent, code 4300010 which resulted in commission number 090832 or 832nd order by the agent for the 1989 model/production year vehicles.

The order for this Porsche contained two restriction / non-production conforming option codes or “Z” orders which were directed to Porsche’s special request, special order department informally known as the “Sonderwunsch” department and now known by the proper name Porsche EXCLUSIV.

The Z-code options requested were codes 07153 and 07154 which are as follows:

Z-Code 07153 was the special order / special request for:
-Four Spoke Steering Wheel in “Marine Blue Leather”
-Horn Button with Porsche Crest in “Marine Blue”
-Console and switch for heating control in “Marine Blue”
    -Brake Lever in “Marine Blue”
-Switches and controls in “Marine Blue”
-Seat Belt Buckles and Webbing in “Marine Blue”

Z-Code 07154 was the special order / special request for:
-M505 Factory Slant Nose with body colored wheels (Grand Prix White.)

Going back to slide 166-67, I am going to assume that this is not a Puerto Rican delivery car, but it was fitted for Puerto Rico and The United States. A COA would really help this auction.

  • LP500S (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@bill_noon I completely disagree with you. What I do see in slide 166-167 is that this is a Puerto Rican delivery car. This is the second time this week that Pcar has stated: 'this 911 was ordered through Porsche’s "Sonderwunsch” Special Wishes program' with regards to the M505 Slant Nose package.

Werks 1 was producing Special Wishes cars during the 81-87 time period. One could order from the Special Wishes catalog for factory cars, but this is a far cry from the TRUE SPECIAL WISHES 930!!!

According to the famed historian, Peter Morgan, Production Numbers of the Sonderwunsch (Special Wishes) Slant-Nose Turbo Models were:

    1981: 1
    1982: 38
    1983: 35
    1984: 34
    1985: 44
    1986: 52
    1987: 3

Porsche then offered the factory M505 option in 1987-89. These cars were built on the factory assembly line NOT AT WERKS 1. Your car may have a leather to sample interior, but it is not a 'Special Wishes 930'.

A true Special Wishes car would be a much different car with a much different value. Notable features on the true Special Wishes 930 would potentially be a 330 HP motor, center console, 3 spoke steering wheel, recaro seats. dual exhaust and front lower oil cooler, boost guage, or unique dashboard with wood grain and storage under the dash.

Many cars have paint to same or leather to sample, so the claim of 'ordered through the special wishes department' is as misleading as stating this is a true mileage car (with a new motor).

Now, if you have a letter from Porsche stating that this car was a Special Wishes car (something that they provide and I have had on my cars from Porsche Historic) and a mileage trail dating back to new, one can hold these statements as true and I will stand corrected.

Finally, if my analysis is correct on the slides that you pointed me to, was this a Puerto Rican car?

  • JMS935 2 years, 4 monthsago

Bill, I wish you luck with this flip, maybe someone else agrees with you and you can make some money on it. Gooding should’ve never listed it as an actual mile car when you bought it, nor should Pcarmarket be listing it as such now. The fact that you have listed it on Pcarmarket, and not Bring a Trailer, seems to confirm to me that you do know the difference since you normally sell on BaT, and you also know this car would’ve gotten a TMU designation on BaT. So good move selling it here for that reason, but it does indicate that you know the difference, and decided to list it with the auction house willing to look the other way.
And I’m not trying to annoy you, though I guess I risk that pointing this out too, but there is absolutely nothing one off with Marine blue leather, it is actually the most common leather color for these M505 cabs outside of black. If you don’t believe me just look at 2 of the last 3 M505 white cabs that sold on BaT, they both had Marine blue leather. The white with Marine blue leather is one of the more common color combo specs for this model variation.

  • Bill_Noon (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    Slow down LP500S,

The car was absolutely a "Sunderwunche" or special wish, special request example and if you had taken the time to read through the Porsche Factory Assembly records posted in the gallery, you would have seen that clearly like everyone else did.

It had nothing to do with the M505 Factory Slant Nose but was specifically in regards to the one of one color to sample interior of Marine Blue to match the original owners custom made suite.

As for mileage, the car is absolutely being sold true mileage known and documented or it would not have been listed as such by me, not PCAR.

    With kind regards,

    Bill Noon

  • LP500S (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Pcar sloppiness strikes again and amateur hour continues. Don't they know that Porsche people are fussy and detail-oriented people? I mean come on!

They did this on the last M505, stating that it was ordered through the "Special Wishes' program: CORRECTION, The M505 was a FACTORY OPTION in 1989!!!! PLEASE STOP STATING THINGS NOT TRUE!!! THIS IS NOT A SPECIAL WISHES CAR!!!

Finally, this looks like a lovely car, but it should read in the summary: 'Non-matching 3.3L motor' and 'TMU' on mileage right out in front.

Regarding the mileage, Bringatrailer has simply used the word 'Odometer' or 'Shown' (instead of 'Mileage') to make any questions on the matter, truly up to interpretation. Pcar is stating something that just isn't fact in many cases by using the word 'Mileage'.

Because we all like this service, I really hope that PCAR market can grow past the shady New York used car salesmen image that they are portraying in their sloppiness!

I disagree completely JMS935, and the car is absolutely being sold with warranted true mileage or I would not have listed it as such.

The engine in the car has just a couple of hundred miles of break in time only after a complete rebuild. Receipts for all the work are shown in the photo gallery.

Why would you assume a car with a replacement rebuilt engine could not have true mileage.

Would you consider a car with its original engine but rebuilt new to have only the new miles shown on the engine after rebuild?

    Kind regards,

    Bill Noon

  • JMS935 2 years, 4 monthsago

You can’t be serious Bill, to call this an actual mileage car?!? C’mon Man. Any car that doesn’t have its original engine is and will ALWAYS be a true mileage unknown vehicle. Carfax isn’t aware of the fact that the engine born with the car is no longer in it, but hey, Carfax is the end all be all so it must be accurate. Sorry for the sarcasm, but seller clearly knows better…

    Good morning JMS935,

Photo 146 shows the gearbox number and photo 166 shows the Porsche internal assembly records for the car which confirms the gearbox is original to the car.

Mileage is original to the vehicle and well documented by both CarFax and service records.

    How else can I assist?

For those of you who haven’t worked with Bill Noon before, you will find him straightforward , honest and helpful. I bought the big brother to this car a few months ago and the experience with the seller was excellent. GLWTA, Bill.

  • JMS935 2 years, 4 monthsago

Why does Pcarmarket list actual mileage when a car has a replacement motor? I don’t get it, this is a TMU car. Since the engine was replaced and seller lists the transmission as only a G50, proper confirmation that it’s actually the original G50/50 Turbo transmission should help confirm that the entire drivetrain wasn’t replaced when the engine was. Because a G50 is the 911’s normally aspirated transmission, which naturally (no pun intended) didn’t come in this car. Good luck with the sale!
