This 911 Turbo is one of 600 Cabriolet versions produced for the U.S. market during the 1989 model year and represents the only year in which the 930 was equipped with a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox. It was sold new from Pioneer Centres Porsche of San Diego and comes finished in Grand Prix White over a Cashmere Beige leather interior. This 930 features an optional limited-slip differential as well as supple leather seats and an upgraded B&B exhaust. It was acquired by the current owner in December 2009 and is now being offered for auction out of California while showing approximately 51k miles on the odometer.

This 930 is finished in Grand Prix White and features Turbo-specific bodywork including wide fenders, a front chin spoiler, and a tea tray rear spoiler. Other equipment includes a power-operated black convertible top with a matching boot cover, dual exhaust outlets, a periscope-style third brake light, integrated front fog lights, black stone guard decals on the rear quarters, and staggered-width 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels. The seller indicates a new convertible top and boot cover were sourced from Autos International and installed in July 2023 along with a set of new Bridgestone Potenza tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, this 930 features a Cashmere Beige interior with matching carpets and optional supple leather seats. Accessories include power-adjustable front seats, an elevated steering wheel hub, an air-conditioning system, a four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, a central tachometer with an inset boost pressure gauge, an analog quartz clock, an aftermarket alarm system, and a Sony AM/FM/cassette stereo.

A turbocharged and intercooled 3.3-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 282 HP and 278 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed G50 manual transmission and an optional limited-slip differential. An upgraded B&B exhaust system has been installed and the clutch is said to have been replaced during an engine-out service in 2015. The battery was recently replaced in preparation for sale along with an A/C system recharge, an oil change, a transmission fluid change, a compression test, and a pre-purchase inspection. The seller notes that all service records are available dating back to their purchase in 2009.

This sale will include the original owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, service records, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “I have owned this 911 Turbo Cab since December 2009. In preparation for the sale, a new top and boot (Sourced from Autos International) were installed along with an oil change, transmission fluid change, new tires, AC recharge, and PPI. This Turbo was sold new in San Diego from Pioneer Centres Porsche in 1989 and has been in San Diego during its entire time. Original paint car.”

FYI, Not all shops report or update information with CARFAX. 911 Turbo was serviced and seen 3 air cooled shops during my ownership. European AutoSports, KB Motorsports and Personal Autohaus. None of these shops report/update with CarFax.

I see you just answered my questions

  • mayart (registered bidder) 5 months, 2 weeksago

@seller is the car currently registered in California and would it pass a smog check? Does the AC blow cold air?

  • Turtle0818 (seller) 5 months, 2 weeksago

@Cytoboy My brother and I own a property in the Lake Tahoe area. One of the few counties where Smog is not required. If the winning bidder is from the state of CA. I will provide a current Smog certificate.
As for the underneath  of the 911 Turbo. I didn't like the look of the cosmeline and during and after the engine out service (around 2015), I cleaned off the cosmeline and other road grime. Took me many hours to get this done. It's something I like to see in all my air cooled Porsche's.
Fan shroud and valve covers and other engine components were powder coated/ repainted during the engine out service in 2015.

@Turtle0818. Thanks for your last minute availability. I may have overlooked the document, but has the car passed SMOG inspection recently? Curious if anyone knows why all of the service encounters since 2010 do not appear on the CarFax document? Finally, has the undercarriage been recently cleaned, and the engine fan repainted? I appreciate your time.

I don't buy into the quantum leap from 915 to G50 in the Carreras. In the Turbo however, it is a big deal vs the 4-speed, making the car easier to drive and less frenetic; especially well suited to the cabs that invites a more casual driving experience.

As for the white smoke? Get used to it.

@Cytoboy Yes, You are seeing oil-related burn-off and a little bit of steam. All my Air Cooled Porsches did the same, but I wanted to be sure and spoke to a few shops today. Black Forest told me that this is normal in the 930's and also got in touch with Glen (Former head mechanic for Wayne Baker/Personal Autohaus) Glen told me that it's perfectly normal for a puff of white smoke, but my B&B exhaust can contribute to additional steam when starting up.
As for the steering wheel being straight, Yes the steering wheel is straight when driving. That part of the road on the video has a slight bend to the left, which is difficult to see from the camera angle.
    Thanks

@Turtle0818. Thanks for your comprehensive listing. I have two questions related to the posted videos:

    1. On start up, one observes a brief puff of white-grey smoke. Are we seeing oil-related burn-off, or is this steam? I would expect steam to linger a bit. Appreciate your candor and thoughts from the forum.

    2. The driving video might suggest that the steering wheel is not perfectly centered on the straights. I know that the camera angle is a bit oblique. Thanks for any comment.

@JohnBlackyoldtimer After visiting a few shops. One of the shops was able to identify that the metal roller(small wheel that is part of the top motor that latches to the guide/front of the body) was not going down all the way on the guide/body. About 1/8or 1/16 of an inch (est). After examining both sides the left side was a little sticky/slower than the right side. Shop was able to lubricate the driver side and the top is now working as it should be. There is no other issue with the top. 911 Turbo does not pull in any direction. Drives straight and stops straight during stopping.
I will upload a pic on the metal roller part I described. I am sure there is a proper name for this.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • JohnBlackyoldtimer (registered bidder) 5 months, 3 weeksago

Hey, why does the new top on the driver's side sometimes not close completely? Was the work not carried out properly, or is the frame perhaps warped? On my convertible the top locks with a tightening latch. Nothing can survive afterwards. Can you please post photos of this location and make a video of the top opening and closing. Thanks for that and are there similar problems with the vehicle? Does it pull in one direction when braking hard?

@4DLake Not sure why you think the 911 Turbo has been repainted? All the paint meter reading is consistent with levels that indicates the paint is Original.

  • 4DLake (registered bidder) 5 months, 3 weeksago

Sorry, just saw the meter readings, do you know when and why it was painted

  • 4DLake (registered bidder) 5 months, 3 weeksago

Do you know if the car has ever had any paint work. Can you show us paint readings

  • Turtle0818 (seller) 5 months, 3 weeksago

Prior to the auction, New top occasionally would not close tight all the way on the driver side and create a wind noise at 50mph plus. That was addressed.
