Up for your consideration is this well documented and pristine Porsche 944 Turbo S.  The current owner is a seasoned Porsche collector who commissioned a “spare no expense” refreshment of the entire car.  This 944 began its life with its original owner on the east coast, where it remained for 26 years before finding its third and current owner in California, three years ago.   The recent repaint in factory Stone Grey is in fantastic shape with no flaws to speak of.

The burgundy interior contrasting with the Stone Grey exterior is nothing short of stunning.  The newly reupholstered seats were covered in Genuine Porsche Leather and fill the cabin with that new showroom scent. All electronic components work as they should.

This 944 Turbo S came equipped new with a removable sunroof, Blaupunkt Reno SQR46 radio w/ BA80 equalizer, cruise control and leather seats.  During the recent work performed, the owner had a new timing belt installed along with the original magnesium wheels professionally anodized, which are now mounted to a set of Bridgestone semi-slicks.

Power comes from a 2.5L 4cl turbo that produces 250HP. Porsche achieved a perfect 50:50 weight distribution by mounting the 5-speed manual transaxle at the rear of the vehicle confirming just how advanced Porsche had become with the 944 by the late 80’s. It is noteworthy to mention that Presently; the car has a CA smog certificate.

Accompanying this car are receipts of all worked performed, spare wheel, original compressor and tools, Porsche COA, and Porsche Pouch with all manuals and maintenance records.

Although restored to some point, grab it if you can. These will one day soon be out of reach.

  • JBoxerGT2 (registered bidder) 4 years, 11 monthsago

@elastics I agree on original once, but isn't it crazy how Porsches that are restored with tons of filler, new metal sections, lots of welding, etc sometimes bring more money than a original? Crazy right?

  • alper944 5 yearsago

Could the seller please comment on any recent engine work. Thank you. Very nice car..

  • elastics 5 yearsago

@job Well, as they say, a car is only original once. This one has had extensive restoration including paint and upholstery. The ones that fetch a premium are original paint, etc plus lower miles.

  • job (registered bidder) 5 yearsago

    @elastics Why are you saying « non-originality » ?

  • elastics 5 yearsago

Great opportunity to buy the best of the 951’s. Low mile completely original versions have been fetching good money so this one may be more affordable due to non-originality and higher miles, glws

def watching this closely tomorrow. 944s, 928s, 968s are so hot right now and this is an example where the owner clearly revamped appropriately. looks amazing.

@Arnaud get that choice. Airbag and leather is the issue to look OEM. On 928s, as leather dash was an option, and earlier years no bag, easier to pull off. Mind sharing sources on this, will help me go higher on bid :) "A leather dash cover costs 280 usd. There’s a shop specialized in that."

@JNasty They are not new dash, and covers look ugly. My plan was to wait that a good second hand one would come on Ebay.

  • Arnaud (seller) 5 yearsago

@job The car is from 1989, and you will be able to register it without passing “les mines” and under the 30 years import regulation.

  • Arnaud (seller) 5 yearsago

@drjoe356 A leather dash cover costs 280 usd. There’s a shop specialized in that. I didn’t do it because it doesn’t look stock and by law you are not allowed to touch the part over the passenger side airbag, even if you do you won’t be able to reproduce the AIRBAG embossing in the material. I scratched my head a lot on this dash, opted not to redo it and to wait for a used one on Ebay.

  • drjoe356 5 yearsago

How much could it be to have the dash covered in leather?

Any car import to Europe specialist here ?
Just wondering if this Turbo is from 12.12.1988 (>30 years) or from 04.05.1990 (<30 years) ? This makes a lot of difference regarding the import taxes to France...
    Thanks

@JNasty its actually quite difficult to fix because of passenger airbag and covers aren't gorgeous. personally, I think the owner did a fantastic job with keeping original. amazing work!

  • JNasty (registered bidder) 5 yearsago

"spare no expense" except the dash (major cracking). My heart was lifted (re-paint, re-fresh, but miles to keep it affordable) and then dashed on the rocks of porsche 80s transaxle dash cracking. Anyone know a source for new dashes (not caps or covers)?

this car looks spectacular. with the very low mileage ones selling on BAT for stupid numbers, this might actually be the best value on the market. The color combo is fantastic.
