Introducing Porsche’s 964 generation, the 1989 Carrera 4 showcased 85% revamped components and a distinct architectural departure from its predecessor. It boasts coil spring suspension, power steering, ABD, and a 959-derived all-wheel-drive system. Factory specified in Grand Prix White over Cashmere Beige, this 5-speed manual 1989 Carrera 4 Coupe is now being offered for auction out of Tennessee with approximately 121k miles showing on the odometer.

The 964’s design most notably introduced aerodynamic polyurethane bumpers and an automatically extending rear spoiler. Specified in Grand Prix White, this example features an electric sunroof and factory 16” Design 90 wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season tires from 2020. The seller states the sides have been refinished although the panels remain original to the car, and detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a detailed CARFAX report.

The cabin is appointed with Cashmere Beige partial leather, complemented by a black dashboard, upper door panels, and leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel. Accessories include power windows and mirrors, 8-way power-adjustable seats, a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel, a quartz clock integrated into the center console, and a locking glovebox. An upgraded Pioneer CD stereo has been fitted, and all gauges and electronics are confirmed to be in working order.

Power is derived from a replacement 1992 Carrera 4 air-cooled 3.6L flat-six engine generating 247 HP and 228 lb.-ft of torque to all four wheels through a G50 5-speed manual transmission. Acceleration from 0-60 mph can be achieved in as little as 5.6 seconds, continuing onto a top speed of 162 mph. The Carrera 4’s debut introduced trailing arms for rear suspension, alongside Porsche's pioneering "Weissach" rear axle, and axles that can be locked by the switch of a button, allowing for 50:50 front/rear distribution for enhanced traction and stability. The seller states the replacement engine was installed after a tire shred incident in 2000 caused oil line damage and engine failure. A CARFAX report showing a total loss in November 2000 is provided in the gallery. Service records dating back to the car’s initial delivery are said to accompany the sale, including a leak-down test performed 3k miles ago with cylinders 1-6 ranging from 2% to 4%.

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, sales literature, and extensive documentation.

The seller would like you to know: “This stunning white 5-speed Sunroof 964 Coupe includes all books, manuals, tools, and a comprehensive 2” thick binder detailing its service history, including the original bill of sale and sales buyer's order. Notably, a significant service record in the binder documents a leak-down test performed just 3k miles ago, with cylinders 1-6 ranging from 2% to 4%. The car's paintwork is flawless, indicating no accidents, with all original panels. In 2000, a tire shred incident damaged the oil lines, resulting in engine failure and necessitating a replacement engine from a 1992 model. The tires have deep tread and the wheels are in excellent condition. Inside, the leather upholstery is well-maintained, alongside pristine carpets, flawless door cards, and a perfect headliner. The dashboard is void of cracks and warping, and all glass, sills, and moldings are clean and supple. This car boasts a crisp, handsome appearance and would be a great driver or addition to any Porsche collection.

I talked to the man that did the swap yesterday, he built the engine before installing so it will have appx 40k on engine.Chassis has the 120k listed

  • Skizza20 (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

And I saw the comment below noting ~40k miles since the swap. Do you know what the mileage of the donor motor was prior to replacement?

  • Skizza20 (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

Is the 120k listed accurate for the chassis or the replacement motor? Assuming it's the chassis, do you have the approximate mileage for the replacement motor?

  • Jpfrazier4211 (seller) 1 week, 3 daysago

FYI- we can get the Carfax corrected if there is no supporting evidence that the entry is incorrect

  • Jpfrazier4211 (seller) 1 week, 3 daysago

Follow up to jwilkins comment regarding "total loss".We checked through three different historical title venues,i.e. National Motor Vehicle info system,as well as the State of Tennessee where the car has resided. THERE IS NO "Branded TITLE" or total loss recorded anywhere on this car. Carfax is the only place this appears.I would boldly state Carfax is incorrect s. NO sign of accident history physically on the car or any reporting agencies.I stated in a previous post that I have seen MANY incorrect Carfax reports, appears we have one here.

  • Jpfrazier4211 (seller) 1 week, 3 daysago

Clarify my comment regarding body shop work-there are NO bodyshop receipts for paint ,just great services

  • Jpfrazier4211 (seller) 1 week, 3 daysago

fiigii and any other prospective buyers.fiigii's comment regarding chassis damage leads me to believe that there is an audience that thinks this car is an accident victim-IT IS NOT!!!
I have submitted pictures of VIN tags on body panels as well as factory spot welds and seams. Both front fenders as well as rear quarters, hood, and deck lid and doors are all original panels from the factory. In addition, all four corners still have the factory rock protection on the wheel well openings. Those who know Porsche cars know that if a fender or quarter has been replaced the original coating is no longer present, PRESENT on each opening of this car. Please review pictures of VIN tags on panels as well as every original tag to the car. The top panels of the car are original paint. They have painted down the sides of the car receipts in its extensive records show any bodyshop work. Before Paintless dent removal if a car got a door ding we would paint the panel to remove the ding,a car that has been sided is not surprising from this era.

Is there any damage to the chassis?

  • Jpfrazier4211 (seller) 1 week, 4 daysago

I revisited,it is indeed discolored. One can also see in the photos.Air brush or a small visit to a paint shop.In person it does not stand out as much as in photos.Camera will pick up discoloration at times where Our eyes may not catch

  • jwilkins2015 (registered bidder) 1 week, 4 daysago

I've noticed on the video, the corner piece in front of the passenger rear wheel is discolored and peeling off. I tried to find a clear shot on the video but cant see it well. Can I get better images of that please? Serious buyer trying to limit unwanted surprises. Thank you.

  • Fraziermotorcar (registered bidder) 1 week, 5 daysago

Great question. All happened here in Tn so a total lose title would still be in place.
I have witnessed MANY inaccurate Carfax report.
Names and numbers are on service sheets thru the years,we will make phone calls
In addition,we have a good relationship with title bureau,we will ask questions.STANDBY

This is one that would absolutely require an independent PPI before buying.
Looks very nice in the pictures. GLWTA!

  • Jpfrazier4211 (seller) 2 weeksago

Regarding mileage since. This happened in 2000 with appx 81000 miles.Car currently has 120,000 on odometer so we could surmise the car has appx 40,000 miles since incident.

  • Jpfrazier4211 (seller) 2 weeksago

Thank you for writing.Fabulous car! I have this wonderful binder of chronological records all the way back to original bill of sale up to current day services.BUT nothing regarding the install of replacement engine. As you can see we have excellent leakdown numbers on current engine as well as records moving forward to current day.
The gentleman that had the engine replacement done was a BMW franchise owner, replacement was done seamlessly.Car is strong, tight, and responsive, not flat on its feet in anyway. The car is so nice in everyway it would be a shame if this engine swap would cause trepidation from the potential new owner

  • AK9eleven (registered bidder) 2 weeksago

How many miles were on the replacement engine prior to install? How many miles driven since installation?
