It is our pleasure to offer this 1990 Mercedes-Benz 300SL-24 finished in Nautical Blue over a blue fabric plaid interior.  Representing the inaugural model year for the R129 roadster platform, this 1990 300SL-24 is a European-market example that had been under the care of two private collectors in Germany before it was imported to the United States by the seller earlier in 2021.  It features a rare 5-speed manual transmission paired with the desirable M104 24-valve DOHC inline-six engine.  An increasingly popular collector’s item, the R129 remains a stylish and luxurious roadster staying true to its illustrious heritage dating back to the original 300 SL Roadster of the 1950s.  Described as a show-quality preservation car, this highly original 300SL-24 exhibits extremely rare factory specifications and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California while showing just over 21k kilometers (13k miles) on the odometer.

This R129 is presented in Nautical Blue with light blue lower body cladding, a dark blue convertible soft top, and a removable painted hardtop.  This SL is reported to have remained in private collections throughout its entire life and the paint is described to be in showroom-like condition.  The seller suggests that the right rear quarter panel may have been professionally refinished at some point, although the rest of the paint remains entirely original.  Additional images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings.  This 300SL-24 rides on 16” Mercedes Alamak 8-hole alloy wheels dressed in Continental tires.

Inside, this R129 showcases a stunning blue fabric interior with blue and white plaid pattern inserts and decorative burl wood veneers on the center console and inner door panels.  Factory features include air conditioning, power windows, power-operated seats, a power-operated soft top, a cabin wind deflector, and a Becker Avus cassette stereo.  The cabin is described to be like-new with all instruments and accessories remaining fully functional.

This 300SL-24 is equipped with a European-spec M104 24-valve DOHC inline-six engine that sends approximately 230 HP to the rear wheels through an incredibly rare and sought-after 5-speed manual transmission.  This first-generation SL features independent front and rear suspension, stabilizer bars, and 2-circuit hydraulic power-assisted 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS.  An annual service was carried out in 2019 and the seller reports this R129 to be in excellent mechanical order for its next owner.
