Now available is this 1990 Mercedes-Benz W463 G300 Cabriolet finished in Black over a grey cloth interior. The W463 generation represented a shift in the G-Class from a utilitarian military truck to a luxury 4x4. Believed to be one of only 266 examples produced worldwide, this G300 Cabriolet was hand-built at the Mercedes factory in Graz, Austria, and was delivered new in Italy in 1990. It features triple-locking differentials and a body-on-frame construction that cemented the G-Class as one of the most capable 4x4s of all time. Recently imported to the United States after being serviced by Rossi Mercedes-Benz in Italy, this G300 is now being offered by its seller out of New York while showing approximately 216k kilometers (134k miles) on the odometer.
This short-wheelbase G300 comes finished in black (DB-040) with a matching removable soft top and body-colored fender flares and headlight bezels. For the W463 generation, the G-Class received smoother body lines, chrome running boards, and slimmer bumpers with integrated front fog lights. Other exterior details include a chrome front brush guard, rear mud flaps, and a swing-out spare tire carrier with a Mercedes-Benz branded cover. The exterior is described to be very well presented apart from one door ding, detailed images are provided in the gallery. This G300 retains its original 16” wheels which have been painted gunmetal grey and mounted with large Maxxis Victra snow tires.
The interior is upholstered in grey patterned cloth with wood trim accenting the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Driver amenities include heated front seats, manual air conditioning, heat-insulated glass, power windows, central power locks, and a Mercedes-Benz CD radio with rear speakers. A diamond-plated steel hatch in the rear tailgate offers additional storage. Metric instrumentation includes a 180-KPH speedometer, a 100x/per minute 6k-RPM tachometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The seller states all instruments and accessories are working properly and notes some fading on the wood trim.
This G300 is powered by a 3.0L SOHC inline six-cylinder engine with Bosch KE Jetronic fuel injection, which was factory rated at 168 HP and 140 lb.-ft of torque. A 4-speed automatic transmission pushes all four wheels through a full-time all-wheel-drive system with high and low ranges. Electronic locking differentials are also equipped at the front, rear, and center of the drivetrain. The W463 was also the first G-Class to features anti-lock brakes (ABS) as standard equipment. The seller reports the brake pad wear indicator light is on as well as the windshield washer fluid light, even though the brakes have ample life left and the washer fluid reservoir is full. The seller also states that the vehicle was serviced by Rossi Mercedes-Benz in Italy prior to being imported to the U.S.
