Now available for auction is this 1990 Porsche 964 Carrera 4 Coupe finished in Grand Prix White over a Cashmere Beige interior.  Borrowing technology from the 959 supercar, this 964 Carrera 4 became the first Porsche 911 to offer an all-wheel-drive system.  This 1990 example was specified for European delivery and was acquired by the last owner in 1998 at 47,854 miles, who would go on to add less than 20k miles over the next 23 years.  Accompanied by an original stamped maintenance booklet as well as a collection of records showing a long history of service, this beautifully presented 964 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Idaho with just over 67k miles on the odometer.

This Carrera 4 is finished in Grand Prix White and rides on factory 17” Design 90 wheels with colored Porsche center crests.  The 964 generation debuted a greatly improved aerodynamic design as well as a new automatic electric rear spoiler.  The seller states that the car appears to have been garage-kept throughout its life and notes that the hood and passenger-side front fender have been previously refinished. CARFAX shows a damage report in 2000 and the seller suggests that there are no signs of any persisting damage.  Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a paint meter reading video.  The BF Goodrich G-Force Sport tires are dated from 2004 and are recommended for replacement due to age.

Inside, you will find a Cashmere Beige interior with desirable factory Sport Seats.  Other optional features include cruise control, an amplifier, power front seat adjustment, and a sunroof.  Some wear is noted on the driver’s seat and abrasion is depicted on the driver-side armrest.  An aftermarket radio has been installed and all gauges and accessories are said to be working properly.

This 964 derives as much as 247 HP from an air-cooled 3.6L flat-six engine.  All four wheels are driven through a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox.  Compared with its predecessors, the 964 received a substantially revised coil spring suspension and became the first 911 to offer power steering and ABS.  This Carrera 4 is said to be accompanied by its original warranty maintenance booklet showing dealer service stamps from 1991-2005, as well as additional service records dating from 1997-2017.  A service was also recently completed by the seller in July of 2021 including an oil and filter change as well as new hood struts.  There are no outstanding maintenance items reported at this time, although the front shock dust covers are recommended for replacement.  Images of the undercarriage are provided in the gallery.

This sale will include the original toolkit, air compressor, spare tire, and a clean title.  Staying true to its original appearance while highlighting a long documented history of service, this Carrera 4 may very well be the 964 you have been searching for.

Had a chance to go see and drive this car today. Very nice solid car. What one would expect for a 30+ year old that was well taken care of. Has a few items to work on depending on your use. In the videos, Shep pointed out some of these items. I'll just add that the passenger seat belt is frayed and the sun roof will need some TLC to get perfect but it all works. The sports seats are great. Clutch take up is good. Sychros worked well. Engine sounds as it should. Valve lash sounded tight. Great balance on the drive even with old tires. I'm probably not gonna bid (it's a color I'm not keen on) but I think anyone who purchases this car will get a great example for themselves. And Shep is a real stand up guy to deal with.

@jh986s I'll get the pan off and submit the photos today. We purchased with 67,247 miles and it now has 67,292. I don't have an estimate about oil consumption after 1000 miles of driving. Every engine consumes some oil. The 964 holds 9.5 quarts of oil. The dry sump holds roughly 4 quarts alone. This is one of the reasons these engines last so long. To lose enough oil to matter the engine would have to be leaking furiously and/or blowing clouds of blue smoke. Neither of those is the case with this excellent example. The 964 is getting racked now, your requested photos are coming up!

Thanks for the reply, but could we see the bottom of the engine with the engine cover off. What would you say oil consumption is after 1000 miles of driving?

  • SVAutoClub (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@jh986s Certainly, all of the early 964's will leak some oil as you mentioned with the lack of the gasket. This one doesn't mark the floor because it retains the factory engine cover on the underside. Most of the 964's that I see have them removed. I think mechanics forget to put them back on and the engines do run cooler with out them. The pan wasn't full of oil but it wasn't dry either. Just a film of engine oil was present. It's nice to have a 964 that doesn't mark it's spot for a change!

I love white 964s. And the cashmere interior is rare in a white 964, even rarer with sport seats. What a nice car.

  • jh986s (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

based on the build date this would have the gasketless heads, any idea on how much oil usage? Have you noticed oil spots after putting some miles and heat through the engine?

Welcome to the auction. My name is Shep and I'll be available to answer questions throughout the auction. Let me know if I missed any photos that you would like to see. Same for any particulars that I missed in the videos.
