We are pleased to offer this 1990 Porsche 964 Carrera 4 Coupe presented in Silver Metallic. Using technology developed for the 959 supercar, the 964 Carrera 4 became the first Porsche 911 to offer an all-wheel-drive system upon its introduction in 1989.  This 1990 example comes equipped with a 5-speed G50 manual transmission, Cup 1 wheels, and a Burgundy interior with power-operated seats.  It also features upgraded Bilstein dampers, H&R lowering springs, and brand-new Michelin Pilot Sport tires.  Reported to have been cared for by three previous owners, this 1990 example currently shows under 42k miles on the odometer and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Connecticut.

This 964 is finished in Silver Metallic (980) and the seller describes the exterior to present very nicely overall.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.  The 964 generation debuted a vastly improved aerodynamic design including a new automatically deployed electric rear spoiler.  This Carrera 4 rides on newly refurbished 17”x7" and 17"x9" Cup 1 wheels with colored Porsche center crests and brand-new Michelin Pilot Sport tires.  A set of original 16” Design 90 wheels are also said to accompany the sale wearing new Continental tires.

Inside, this Carrera 4 sports a beautiful Burgundy interior with matching carpets and floormats.  Power seats were equipped from the factory along with power windows and door locks, a sunroof, and cruise control.  The door speakers have been upgraded and an aftermarket Alpine radio has been installed.  Some slight wear is reported on the driver’s seat bolster and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.

This Carrera 4 is equipped with an air-cooled 3.6L flat-six engine that sends up to 247 HP to all four wheels through a 5-speed G50 manual transmission.  The 964 generation was introduced with a new twin-plug ignition system, DME system, a substantially revised coil spring suspension, and became the first 911 to offer power steering and ABS.  This 1990 example has also been upgraded with Bilstein B6 shocks and H&R lowering springs for improved handling and a more aggressive stance.  All available service history is provided on CARFAX and the seller has reported no outstanding maintenance items at this time. Images of the underbody are provided in the photo gallery.

This sale will include a toolkit, air compressor, spare tire, and a clean title. With its low miles and timeless color combination, this 1990 Carrera 4 makes an excellent choice for any discerning driver in search of a Porsche 964.

  • JoeyBatzfromNyack 2 years, 8 monthsago

This car had a rollback on the carfax not long ago, how’d it do 20miles in 10 years? Unplugged the odometer for a few years?

  • 22aircooled (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Photos of the corrected Carfax have been uploaded.

@Markthom67 I have uploaded to PCAR additional photos of the engine as well as a cold start video and they should be up soon. The engine is dry, no issues with cold start or running and no smell of oil.

  • Markthom67 (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Hello. Is there any reports on condition of engine. Leaks Smoking etc. I didn’t see anything about running condition or driving video cold start video etc. Thanks

@Wolfgangvonair Agreed. That is why I also asked about maintenance.

As for paint work, it is a personal preference and it is one factor in determining market value. It is not unusual to ask for or post paint meter reading pictures, but it seems like that won’t happen here.

  • Wolfgangvonair (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Very handsome 964 but rather than be overly concerned about
paintwork , one should be assured that an 89 thru mid 91 964 is most likely leaking oil
at cylinder bases. There are no gaskets. My low mileage 90 needed full engine out, pistons and cylinders. Chain housing are also leaking most likely. I'worry about these areas first.
Also the Dual Mass Flywheel needs replacing on all 90's-92's.
Good Luck bidding. Its a classy look in those colors. Cheers

  • JAB12 (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

I own this car’s twin with a little less mileage and half a year older. Although most consider silver a regular color in Porsches, in the early 90’s silver was a special order color in these cars. Most standard specs were white, black or red. The Burgundy interior is certainly special order as well as the extra leather everywhere. This is clearly a well taken care of car and the next owner will be pleased to grab it. Not many left in this condition. Good luck to all!

  • 22aircooled (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@porsche_dreamer I do not have photos of the readings and borrowed a meter.
    The Carfax is as stated.
Few miles were put on the car since 2014 as stated. Maintenance has been performed by my shop July and August of this year including fluid and filter changes, new Bilsteins, wheels and tires. All system checked including AC which has been converted to R134 and is working properly. Feel free to contact me through my business, The Third Garage.

  • porsche_dreamer (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

    @22aircooled Thanks.

Are you in a position to share pictures of paint meter readings (and where the measurements are higher)?

The first mileage entry on Carfax appears to be "off".

Can you also confirm what kind of maintenance this car has had since 2014 (storage)? The listing says no o/s maintenance items.

    Thanks.

  • 22aircooled (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@porsche_dreamer This car is interesting as you point out the first recorded mileage in 1996 as provided by Carfax. Perhaps the car was held in Germany, at a dealership here in the states or by an individual that might have bought the car and not registered. That said, the meter readings are, by and large, between 6 and 11. Perhaps this car was painted or re cleared at the factory or here in the US, I do not know. What I do know is that the paint is spectacular, uniform and to an extremely high standard. There is no evidence of body shop drool, no paint rash or overspray, not a screw or molding out of place on the car and no body shop odor.
With respect to the Carfax, I have contacted them and am getting the issue corrected. I have provided at the bottom of the photo gallery the Carfax that I currently have and will be updating once the correction is made. The car has been tucked away both early in its life as well as from 2014 to present.

@ukmills feel free to email me at my user name at Gmail.com. I moved to the area last year and I have been amazed at the car culture and the number of truly expert shops in the area. Everything from white glove, to race shop, to concours restorations, to the most dedicated and obsessed vintage Toyota and Mercedes shops to keep my small fleet in tip top shape, and depending on what you need.

  • 22aircooled (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@ukmills If you are nearby I would encourage you to see the car in person.

  • 22aircooled (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@Begodo You are welcome to see the car any time. In person assessment is always preferred over photos!

This car looks stunning. I love the color combination and the Cup wheels. GLWS. If my garage wasn't already full I would be in the running for this. That said, I am a PCA member located in the next town over. If anyone needs an independent set of eyes on this car, or recommendations for local expert shops to do a PPI, I would be happy to help. There happen to be some amazing Porsche indy shops in the area. I would love to hear more of the history on this car as it seems that it has been stored for long periods of time with very few miles added between inspections. There seem to be a few discrepancies with Carfax odometer readings. Sometimes these are unfortunate transcription errors, but the more documentation there is, the better.

  • porsche_dreamer (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

    Hi Seller,

Can you pls answer the following questions:

    1) Do you have /can you provide paint meter readings?
    2) Can you provide more info as to the mileage discrepancy in the carfax?
    3) Would you also happen to know why/how this car had only 60+ miles in 96?
    4) Is the Carfax on the first page cut off?
