Up for auction is this 1990 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Cabriolet finished in Guards Red over a black partial leather interior. This 1990 example was bought new from Terre Haute Autoplex and came factory optioned with a full power driver’s seat, heated front seats, a 5-speed manual transmission, and a limited-slip differential. Accompanied by the original window sticker and a complete collection of service records, this 964 is now being offered for auction by its original owner out of Indiana with approximately 75k miles showing on the odometer.
This Carrera 2 is finished in traditional Guards Red with a black Cabriolet soft top and matching tonneau cover. The seller notes that the car has always been stored in their garage and usually kept beneath a cover. Some imperfections are noted including a small paint chip on the right side of the hood, a couple of small tears on the Cabriolet top, a crack in the windshield, and slight fading of the rear window. The seller also reports the left door panel to have been replaced, painted, and blended into the front hood by a Porsche dealer in 2017 following a minor cosmetic incident. Additional images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. This 964 rides on factory 17” Design 90 wheels dressed in Goodyear tires. The right front tire was reportedly replaced in 2014.
Inside, this Carrera 2 features a black partial leather interior with optional front seat heating, a full power-operated driver’s seat, automatic air conditioning, and full power accessories. One small tear is noted along the seam on the driver’s seat bolster, and the seller reports that the odometer stopped working at 75,297 miles. Approximately 300 miles are said to have been driven since that time. All other gauges and accessories are said to be working properly including the power Cabriolet top and original Blaupunkt radio.
This 964 is equipped with an air-cooled 3.6L flat-six engine rated at 247 HP. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox and a factory-optioned limited-slip differential. Compared with its predecessors, the 964 received a substantially revised coil spring suspension and became the first 911 to offer power steering and ABS. Regularly scheduled service is said to have been observed and documented throughout the lifetime of the vehicle and the seller reports a slow oil leak from the engine. Some additional service history is provided on the CARFAX report.
This sale will include the original window sticker and a clean title. Staying true to its factory configuration and remaining under the care of its original owner, this 964 presents an excellent opportunity for any enthusiast in search of an air-cooled Cabriolet.

boppy here. I have lowered the reserve to compensate buyer for the ac issue, not knowing what the problem is at this point, so I hope this great car will find its new owner today.

@gerald_renaud I have not pinned it down yet. Been there for a while. Had a major svc about 3 yr ago, but they did not say precisely where. They thought probably hose connections or poss even a seal. They basically said to watch the oil and that it did not seem major. Oil level has never been low. I add small amount very infrequently. Yes, all the svc records are with the car.

have you spotted from which part of the engine the oil leak comes from ? Do you have more documentation of the maintenance of the car that just the car fax ? ( oil change invoices, maintenance book stamped ?)
Thanks
I have to say here that I noticed the heater/cooler fan is not working. Just noticed today, did not know before as I very rarely use ac. In warm weather, I always have top, or at least windows down, and I never like ac in a car. Haven't been taking her out in winter much, and truthfully don't know when I last would've had it on, but don't remember any problem before this. Was just checking everything out ahead of any possible sale. I would say also that ac would probably need charged. Trying to be up front, nothing to hide. I will adjust purchase price to cover the worst case scenario in view of my late find here. Thanks

This is Boppy again. Should have also mentioned that odometer failure is a common thing with this vintage Porsche. It involves a small spring in the odometer and is an easy fix. I have been careful to monitor the mileage since that happened, and, although the exact mileage is impossible to state, I have tried to be aware and I think I've put only about 300 miles on it since that happened.
@RJW That was just an oil change. Even though I'm not driving it much, Porsche recommends changing it yearly or thereabouts.

Hi,
When the vehicle was serviced in April 2021 can provide what was done?
Thank you
This is Jim, owner of this car. You Porsche lovers out there have probably noted the absence of the numeral "2" following the "Carrera" on the rear hatch in the pics. The "2" came unattached some time ago and was loose. I removed it and it is in the glovebox. I've not gotten around to having it reapplied, but it is with the car, in case you have wondered. It should be done by a good body shop. There is still a very slight spot where it was, and I have not rubbed that off so that the exact location is still evident. Thanks, Jim
@991FlyLow I get the car out for 10 or 20 mile drives regularly(once a month or so, except in periods of bad weather), so yes, it has only been driven minimally since then, which is essentially why I have made the difficult decision to sell her: she wants to be driven! Had her out a little yesterday, and she is as smooth and powerful and fun to drive as she was on day one. The acceleration is awesome and she shifts so easily. I thought about cancelling the auction, which is why I have held on to her all these years: every time I drive her I think: "I can't ever sell this car." Sorry for the long-winded answer, but I really love this car. Jim
Can you clarify the odometer reading? It shows 74,000 in 2008 according to Carfax and currently 75,000 and is broken but only 300 miles have been added according to the description. So the car has essentially not been driven since 2008?
Hey, Jim here. I am the owner of this car. It's a great original car, and I hate to sell it. Any questions anyone has, I will answer as soon as I can. There's nothing to hide on the car, so ask away. Thanks
